  • Hey fellas in this upload we look at What makes these Kind of Pedals so SPECIAL? Why the huge Attraction and just how DYNAMIC they really are, all controlled at your guitar volume pot!
This Circuit has been a particular favourite of mine long before the huge Blow up for the aftermarket boutique builders.
The Circuit these are based on come From the MIGHTY CESAR DIAZ Texas Ranger and those pedals are just STUNNING, made huge by the likes of Philip Sayce and those Chasing Certain Clean tones. In the past i have owned a few originals and they do definitely carry a little something extra ? almost spooky overtones with some of the units but with that extra come A big EXTRA price tag! I personally have seen the originals go for Silly money based on the scarcity and people chasing the famed sig inside the box!
With that background in mind you can see clearly why modern builders have started to clone this circuit much like the way a tube screamer or klon has been cloned, personally i think that's a good thing as it makes the units more accessible to most ! WE all want that TONE right?
So having tried many of these aftermarket clones i was very happy to test out this R WEAVER FX Lone Star STRANGER . This particular unit is the Germanium Version with a Trash Can NTE 103 inside and i LOVE that Transistor [ my favourite originals all had these inside] to my ears it retains a better thickness than some others i have tried but still retains a Crystal clean Quality - Almost like a GRAVEL Clean tone and it so addictive to play !
It has three settings that are all very usable and if you have a hum bucker guitar try using the high setting in the neck position !! Its straight magic tones and sounds just like old records! The Middle and low settings Pair with a strat Like Fish and Chips - Meant to Be!
It plays fantastic with other pedals - and is fantastic alone!
This really is a FANTASTIC BUILD.
Make sure to check Ricks Details below - He also offers a Silicone Version which i'm sure is outstanding also.

Richie what up! Another great video. It’s going to be near impossible where you are, but if you can manage to try an allen brown sugar with 15” driver, you would be in love. Brownface front end, tweed back end, and blackface reverb into a 15” eminence legend. It’s stunning! Anyway, great playing and content as usual. If you ever make it over to Cali, beer or coffee on me.

@Chris King Robinson , yours Texan Twang sounds extremely good, I love it! Chris, however, I must tell you that I also bought the silicone Lone Star Stranger because I wanted to hear if there was a difference and I can say that they sound exactly the same way, practically with your eyes closed you don't feel the difference between one and the other. It is not at all true that the components are not good, as the comment below says, because I have compared them both and the components are very similar, apart from the transistor, one BC and the other NTE. , but Weaver is cheaper than you; Rick Weaver's Lone Star Stranger costs $ 180 including shipping from the U.S.A. to Italy, while your Twang from England to Italy $ 260 (euro 220) more shipment. You are overpriced with the price.

Fret Junkies, its amazing how SRV got that tone without using a Cesar diaz texas ranger in the MID setting. But there must be away how SRV got that tone with using his amps maybe Cesar diaz modified his tone midrange to have that Diaz Texas ranger MID setting built inside the amps. That is how it sounds to me because I have never seen SRV using a diaz texas ranger but it sounds just like SRV amps did. You know what I mean?

ben galvin hey buddy !! Such a big question !
Essentially I guess the same circuit 😊
I think of it like this ~ you can order two of the same dishes from two different Chinese restaurants ~ they should taste identical but they don’t !! They are both chow mein just with slightly different ingredients/ spices etc and that extra flair ~ flavour ~ TONE IN REALITY JUST comes down to the chef !!

vincz lee As always, I want to say how awesome your playing & tone is Richie!! In response to your comment Vincz, I’ve personally owned over 15 original Diaz pedals & can say that Pedal Pawn has meticulously cloned the original Texas Square Face & Texas Ranger.
