    Fascinating!! Most people would never know how or suspect what silicone really is and how it’s processed to make everyday useful items. Or how it’s used in quantum computers. This is alchemy science!

      Dear Dean Philpot,
      We recommend the following webpage, where you can find high quality information about this topic: www.silicones.eu/sustainability-environment/silicones-in-the-environment Best regards - Your WACKER Social Media Team

    Fascinating! I'd love to see the fractional distillation process from inside the towers!! A fiber optic camera maybe?

    So when they extract the oxygen do they go to the trouble of releasing it as oxygen or does it just get turned into more carbon dioxide? 🤔

    • @WackerChemie
      @WackerChemie  4 года назад +6

      Yes, all oxygen atoms removed from the silicon dioxide eventually create carbon dioxide. However, WACKER avoids carbon dioxide during the production process by using hydroelectric power. We also strive to capture carbon dioxide and to convert it to compounds. These can ideally be integrated into our supply chain. And finally: the products we manufacture from silicon metall - polycrystalline silicon for solar cells and silicones -- save a lot of CO2, too. This and many other steps will bring WACKER to carbon neutrality in 2050. Want to know more?
