@@rjchan2546 Brunson didn't have a great game. The fact that the Knicks still won is a bad sign for the Sixers, as better Brunson games will only make the Knicks better.
One thing I've learnt is that even if you arent a great 1 on 1 defender naturally, if you try on defense and play team defense and play help defense and if everyone on the team buys in, you can help hide your weakest defenders. We saw it with Curry and you see it with say Bogdonavic. Dude was a liability on defense when he came the Knciks and I thought he was headed for the doghouse. But he has put the work in and bought into Thibs system. Fournier never figured this out.
Knicks outrebounded the 76ers by a VERY wide margin. They also shot lights out from 3 and defended very well. We know they can defend and rebound, but that 3 ball is the key to them winning this series. If they keep it up, I see Knicks winning in 5 games.
I'd say not shooting under 40% overall would also be a huge help. They looked sort of out of sync. I expect them to pick it up and embiid to get tired as the series continues.
The coaching is great but what makes this work is the degree to which the players trust each other. All five guys have each other's backs. Everyone is helping but no one is overcommitting because they trust that if they give a little bit of help, the other guy can recover. I love it.
Thibs should have been coach of the year. He has his team overachieving despite key injuries and mediocre talent. No other coach would have this team as a 2nd seed
Lmao nonsense. There is no mediocre talent on the Knicks. Brunson and Randle are legit superstars. The role players are very solid and efficient and play great defense. I don’t know where you’re getting “mediocre” from.
I think if he didn't win the award recently that he'd be in serious contention again. So many people were saying that the Knicks would finish 4-6 seed in the East at best. For the Knicks to get the 2 seed after losing 3 starters (one of them being a bonafide all-star) for like 30 games, trading away 2 of your key young players, bringing in like 3 new players and have them seamlessly become key pieces of the team is incredible. Oh and they got to 50 wins. Like look at all the players who had career years this season: DiVincenzo, Achiuwa, McBride, Hartenstein, etc. This team just smashed every regular season expectation that people had of them.
@@jaden338 Agree. Randle is an all-star and is a Top 30 player in the league but he doesn't touch the status of Jokic, Embiid, Tatum, etc. Brunson is very close if not already there along with the likes of Ant, SGA, etc.
Life long Knicks fan since the early 90s, the team we have now is the best squad we have had since the 90s. This is what Knicks basketball should be, hard nose defense and scrappy players fighting over every possession. Just like the Ewing/Starks Knicks we had pretty much one star player but we scratched and clawed our way to the finals. Didn’t win a championship of course but NY loved that team for leaving it all out on the floor every game and that’s how we feel about this team. The 2013 Knicks played such lackluster defense and the only thing that kept us a float was Melo shooting lights out but that’s not enough to win it all. I want the Knicks to go to the finals and win it all but we fans are happy to see our team being relevant again. Let’s! Go! Knicks!
We’re witnessing a culture change in the Knicks organization. The right decisions are being made. Doesn’t matter what team a person likes. It’s not just a hopeful fans opinion. It’s a fact. They’re heading in the direction of a championship. They’re also getting the attention of elite players. It’s coming
Seeing this drop coverage done right is so refreshing. You don’t need a kawhi Leonard at every position for good defense. It takes great effort and a great plan. Seeing this compared to Darvin Hams’ acts against humanity and basketball is a treat
Agree and Scott Foster was clearly right there in front of his face smh. Foster made a Vegas decision right there by not making that call. Clearly a Vegas decision
The stunts, hedges, close gaps is the small things that makes this defense elite. Staying Disciplined and honest. Thibs master mind of this defensive scheme is horrifying on opposing teams. It’s like they switching from zone to man all in one scheme. A scary site to see. Knicks in 5
Correction: there is a better player in the world at drawing charges. His name is Brandin Podzemszki, he plays guard for the Golden State Warriors, and he led the league in drawn charges this year. He's legit SPECIAL at it as someone who watched every warriors game this year and every other year. You can borderline guarantee he's getting a charge drawn if you drive at him too much. Podzemszki is incredible at it
I do like Thibs maximizing the defense this team can play. That is the best you are going to get with their small lineup. I am a lifelong Knick fan, and I cannot believe how key Jalen has been to this team. I can see why he never could flourish in Dallas, but I never thought he would be this good. Love watching him.
Great seeing how there's a real method to this defense, because these principles should work against most teams. I didn't see either Miami or Philly doing this in their play-in.
Both teams were excellent defensively. Sixers really made life hell for Brunson - their schemes really shut him down and forced someone else to beat them. Fortunately Deuce and Josh were up to the task. Good minutes from Bogey, too. Seems like he's much more in the groove. And obviously, how many players can slow Embiid one-on-one like Mitch? Mitch!
Amazing video as always. I saw number of plays where Maxey sliced through our defense. What do you think Thibs/knicks can do to contain him better? Thanks
What adjustments are you making if you're the Knicks? I felt like Maxey was getting free runs to the basket way too often. Big win by the Knicks though.
