I had the pleasure of meeting Buck O'Neil when I was 8 or so about 15 years ago. He was giving a speech where he told a story about the two times he heard the best crack off the bat for a home run. The first time was Babe Ruth, the second time was Josh Gibson. He pointed to me and said something along the lines of "Maybe the third time will be when this young man takes the bat". Never will forget that moment. A wonderful baseball man.
Buck O'Neil was truely a great man. I could listen to him talk about baseball for hours. I'll bet you that the old Kansas City Monarchs when they were in their prime could beat any of the MLB teams today. Thank you for posting this.
This is GREAT! Another GEM to add to my collection of versions of this Classic song on my Baseball Playlist on MikesOrganicVideos. THANK YOU! Buck O'Neil was a true gentleman, who should have been inducted into Cooperstown while he was alive to enjoy it. I was there for the HOF inductions in 1981, and Buck signed a ball for me, along with Musial, Feller, Grimes, & other Hall Of Famers! I still have it, and will pass it along to my son (now 2) NOT to be sold! Thanks again, this was a REAL TREAT!
Great video - although it would have been amazing to hear him laugh the way he does at the very end. Also note: he is easily the classiest human being of all time.
He was supposed to make an appearence at the 2006 all star fan fest. he passed away and i, along with America was heart broken. Buck seemed to be a great man. Anyone that knew him was truly blessed
JHA30 you hit it out of the park with your comment. I am still angry that MLB neglected voting it's greatest ambassador into the Hall prior to his death!
JHA, You are absolutley right. It is an ungodly abomination that this man is not in the Hall of Fame. It seems that everyone in the entire baseball community knows that there is no question that he belongs in the Hall of Fame except for the voters. And the thing of it is, Buck never got upset about, he never lashed out about it, he took it in stride because he knew that he was loved. And he is greatly missed. For my money, Buck O'Neil was baseball greatest ambassador.
RIP Buck, we love ya! The comments on this page are why I don' take the kids to the Hall, but a trip to the ballpark is always in order. Go Tigers, go Brewers, go 51's!! Thank the good Lord that the players, the steroids, the gambling, and the egos are not bigger than the game. Here's my plug: Marcus Thames 2008 MVP
I love this man, wish he'd lived to be 200 :) And this is my favorite version of the song in the whole Baseball series. LOVE LOVE LOVE him.
One of the best ambassadors of the game that baseball has ever had.

You can tell he loved the game
The whole sequence of the interviewees before this also singing is great, this part is just heartwarming.
Shivers. Wish I played with or for this man.

Buck O’Neil my favorite
May we all love something as much as Buck loved baseball

The best "take me out to the ball game"
After I saw this on the "Shadowball" segment of Ken Burns' "Baseball", was a Buck O'Neil fan for life. RIP.
Mr. Kansas City.
Meeting him was one of the greatest thrills of my life.
Thank you for posting.. Buck was a true baseball icon.. he will be missed
Buck will alway be in my hall of fame.

This man right here is why I love being a royals fan
Buck O'Neil is first ballot in my Hall of Fame.
Why is this man not in the Hall Of Fame?
"I'm not too much of a singer", yeah right. Sandbagger :)
Superb
And now he’s finally a Hall of Famer!
I came right here when I saw the news
Oh, if only I could be half the man that Buck was. Thanks for posting the wonderful video.
Smh to the person to thumbs down. Buck O'Neil was a legend
Proof that people will thumbs down literally the best things

Who loves baseball more than Buck. As for myself if there is no baseball in heaven I do not want to go.
RIP Buck.

I have a feeling this video is going to get a lot more views
It’s about damn time Mr. O’Neil made it to Cooperstown
Today is Buck's 102nd birthday!
Good Job! He sounded good yet he said he could not sing.
DuetsDreams
@mjacton HE LIVED TO BE NEARLY 100 AND IT WASNT LONG ENOUGH TO GET INTO THE HALL OF FAME- SHAME ON THEM
JHA 30 you are correct ... MLB should be ashamed.
@joeypolanski I was just going to make that comment. He's not bad at all.
@PiquetBT52 wow were you wrong.
Ken Burns made 9 docs or "Innings" which inning was this clip from?
Nope, it's the seventh inning. There are several interviewees who sing it, including him.
My only question-who the heck are the two people who DIDN’T like this?
