It would be pretty funny if when they asked Vax to drop his weapons, there was 3 minutes of him dropping the same two daggers over and over, followed by him dropping Whisper and ending up face down on the floor.
One of my favourite tropes is when someone's asked to leave their weapons behind and there's a five minute scene where they remove daggers, pistols, improvised bombs, and beyond from every hiding place imaginable, and then at the end the person guarding the door says "No, _all_ your weapons," and then there's a _second_ five minute scene where they repeat the whole process all over again

I am fairly certain Keyleth mentioning Raishan there, right as Kima arrived, wasn't an accident. Keyleth was the most vocal against keeping the secret from Kima.
Keyleth really bugs me for shit like this. I can accept that it’s right for the character, but Percy wasn’t wrong when he said her ego was getting them into trouble. She’s so self-righteous and arrogant, and even when there’s a vote against what she wants she’ll go do it anyway. “Slimy” isn’t quite the right word, but it’s close.
Lmao yes. I'd like to think she did grief a lost friend in her own way but was just way too fucking tired to do a big show about it, but still. The reaction was definitely like, "oh, okay, too bad but let's move on".
Between that, the tacit implication of him at least being complicit in a slave-using society, and the fact it's implied Keyleth and Vax hooked up the night they found him dead... it's so unfortunately funny how hard he's being posthumously dunked on lol.
Nah. Mercer showed that numb acceptance well. Allura doesn’t not care. She doesn’t have time to grieve right now. She can’t fall apart or people die. She’ll grieve when it’s over…
Its a Very practical fit; a tree, thats associated with the sun, that sounds like a hippie. Giving it the care-free personality of a tree hugger is perfect
If I remember correctly, it was because Keyleth playfully said "hey boo," the very first time she communed with it. Matt played off that with like a "hey girl," and it stuck. Became the running joke ever since. Or something to that effect
Percy: "I assumed we were making a trade. I have a cloak." Grog: "What does it do?" Percy: "It makes you look _smashing_ " Grog: "It's a Cloak of Smashing?!" Percy: "... Yes."
"The length and bredth of Whitestone" *Grog sits up worried* "Wait a minute! What do you want with the length of bread of Whitestone?!" - I love how while discussing the fate of dragons and the world Grog is uncaring but threaten the bread and Grog gets nervous
This episode had me rolling. The conversation with the sun tree was amazing. I wish Matt had kept the “hey boo” part from previous episodes, but it was still soooo funny

@@gogonomo5604 I dunno, they were on their turf with tons of backup including several powerful magic users, while Raishan was alone. I kinda like their chances. The best she could have hoped for was taking some of them out before getting away and spreading the information about Whitestone.

I'm amused by the fact that Raishan said "strange bedfellows" in reference to a potential alliance, since that's the name of episode 3, in which they meet Clarota for the first time :P
Sizzling Humza Matt comes up with most of the lines before hand for what his characters may say. And he comes up with the titles of the episodes. So I wouldn’t say he just used it as a common phrase, he used it as a nod to the viewers basically saying “get it, Clarota was a former ally who turned against Vox Machina. Maybe Raishan will too”
And results were...mixed. He certainly had his uses but ultimately betrayed them. I would say this will probably be true of Raishan as well. Hopefully this time they'll be prepared for it.

I notice a lot of frustration from Travis because he is strategizing and can’t say half of the stuff he wants to do because he has to RP grogs intelligence of 6 haha. Jazzy B I’m on a mission to catch up on Critical Role, and I’m really excited to finish this campaign so I can see how Travis plays Fjord. I liked how he played “Tarvis” in Liam’s one-shot, so I’m excited to see him play a more intelligent character (even though I love Grog).
@@gabrielherzog2462 Not a spoiler. But just a heads up, Travis believes playing Grog for so long affected him. So a lot of times you'll see him put Fjord in a backseat role, because of playing Grog so much. Could change but it randomly happens during C2 to this date.

@@johnp1806 I don't remember 1st fight with the beholder much but I do remember that in the 2nd fight Matt forgot that she was supposed to be immune to fear and kinda screwed her with that.
1:12:59 Taliesin's delighted gasp with Matt's raised eyebrow is perfection. Pretty sure Matt was thinking either 'oh wow they caught on' or 'oh shit....well this is gonna be interesting'
When Vax was talking to Kynan about his plan with Percy, I realized something. Kynan is going to be a real sniper of the D&D world. He's going to be a rogue Gunslinger. And that's pretty cool.
Yeah I'm playing with a rogue/gunslinger in a campaign right now but she's not a sniper, she's got expertise in athletics and a homebrew feat that lets her shoot at close range so she just tosses people around and shoots them, or uses her soul knife to teleport around to hiding spots. It's awesome. Just saying my grave cleric has lots of fun with Path to the Grave...
It's kind of funny how many times Matt tried to teach them to be as careful as humanly possible when discussing important things between the party, but fell into deaf ears every time
It's also difficult to keep in mind your surroundings when you can't see them. Most of the time they wouldn't say these things in those instances as their characters because they could see the people around them and where they are. I think it's something they should be given more leeway with.
I couldn't believe that one of my most favorite characters from this whole game would be a Tree... But good God Matt, you can make anything into an amazing character.
[SPOILERS] Making a deal with an ancient green dragon that could kill all of them, swearing to keep it secret and then telling someone about it within 24 hours is the most Vox Machina thing ever
I haven't seen their fight with Raishan yet, but I cannot for a second believe they wouldn't woop Raishan's ass if they swung on her immediately. Four Vestiges, Pike, Allura, Gilmore, Kashaw, any defenses the city has mustered, how does Raishan think she has a chance? It has to be a bluff

A lot of people tear into kiki for this convo... 1. She's face to face with the person behind the death of thousands of her people. 2. She's emotional and not thinking clearly. While wise her emotions are over powering her mind. 3. I stand behind her with her actions. I'm not a fan of marisha, and kiki is more annoying to me than anything else. Most of what she says is grating. Bit in this instance I think she was right on point. It's the emotional anguish of a druid who at the moment doesnt care what the consequences are as long as the dragon that killed her people are dead.
@@bobtouflow4020 I totally agree with you. I cannot stand Kiki most of the time. But here I was literally cheering her on. This is what a good person who has the power to do something would do in my opinion. A fourth of her fucking civilization is destroyed and you guys get mad at her for having fury at the person who caused that? It is something that makes sense. It is in character. Here is the difference between Percy and Kiki. Percy has been through the revenge cycle first hand. And honestly in many ways he is a Machiavalian personality. Like you plop Percy down into King's Landing in A Song of Ice and Fire and he would do just fine. Kiki, is a more human and passionate person. She cares more deeply and personally about her people then Percy does the people of Whitestone. Don't get me wrong I love Percy but he is not a good person. A good leader hell yes. Kiki is still not a good leader but she is a good person.
Crazyscotsman plus the Dragon was baiting her. I think if they had been somewhere else she would have attacked Ryshon anyway, I think knowing the people of Whitestone could be massacred in the process is just about the only think that stopped her...her unwillingness to hurt more innocents.
That negotiation is so hilarious. "you keep it under the radar." "what is radar?" Matt giving his best to creat a dark tone, tho VM always blows it completely ;D
@michaeljohnson6545for the past 15-20 episodes Grog started being more vocal and common sense than most of others combined. I think Travis has gotten frustrated with how cumbersome some of the group's actions tended to be and felt like little guidance and logic would go a long way for the story.
@@oleyullah Travis has often been the one who needs to wrangle the group, long before when you noticed. It's just that the group tends to get caught on the tiny details and they miss information and get confused, which makes Travis impatient understandably, and he has to step out of character a little to keep things moving forward. You know what they say, a broken clock is right twice a day. Grog's single braincell is moving in the right direction sometimes, that's all.
He nerfs and buffs them based off off what situation he wants to put them in. It's one of the instances when he unfairly plays god, but to be fair he isnt the murderous DM that plays versus the party so I cant criticize him flip flopping on some of his rules. Although it does annoy the shit out of me that he let's marisha get away with shit that he doesnt allow anyone else to do. Like saving their movement. Noone is allowed to saved their movement if they hold their turn except marisha.

Anyone in doubt of Matt Mercer's acting abilities needs to watch his expression as Ryazan during the entire Percy/Ryshan exchange. Pay special attention to the oh so subtle smirk as Percy calls her on her bluff of not having fast means of travel. Give that man an Oscar.
Love all the little acting bits they do in person. Grog @ 2:05:22 beaming with pride and lost in thought at his new title, and Keyleth @ 2:10:53 reacting to the cloak compliment. When you play all your tabletops games online, you miss out and those fun little in person touches.
I think Raishan teleported with them, that's why i believe Percy had to make the perception check when going last through the portal. Maybe he was invisible or something very small.

@@megabear37 tbh same. I usually found keykey sorta entertaining too tbh. But then it's like I'm trying to figure out the line of thinking where. I also know I just lost alot of my people, how much that hurts so let's risk making it so percy, who sold his soul once when he lost everything the time beforehand , is thrust into a situation where he loses his city, that he told you in a private one on one moment is the one way he as a human has a chance at living longer than you and being "immortal", what's left of his family, and losing the people he swore to protect" makes sense. Like yeah I get shes angry but it just feels really out of character and super against the moral compass she has. To not only put her best friend in such a terrible situation but also kill at least four thousand more people.
@@shellshockthelagiacrus3247 Why is it out of character? Keyleth is consistently portrayed as very emotional and rather impulsive. The dynamic of Keyleth's righteous rage and Percy's icy but calm demeanor tempering it makes the whole Raishan interrogation so much more intense
@Michael Mclellan Agreed. She doesn't consider grand-scale, very impulsive in her "righteousness"
Yeah the whole time I was watching that I was thinking “Man she’s really trying to get this dragon to curbstomp a pretty big part of Whitestone”

He was holding the brain cell at the time
@michaeljohnson6545for the past 15-20 episodes Grog started being more vocal and common sense than most of others combined. I think Travis has gotten frustrated with how cumbersome some of the group's actions tended to be and felt like little guidance and logic would go a long way for the story.
@@oleyullah Travis has often been the one who needs to wrangle the group, long before when you noticed.

This struck me as entirely the kind of thing she would want to do in the moment. Yes, it’s dumb, but getting over her reckless desire to do things that are against her better judgement is part of her arc as a character.
Vox Machina at 36:46 : “Can I offer you a Greater Restoration in this trying time?”
The kindest thing Matt ever did for Vox Machina was forgiving them the material cost of Greater Restoration.
I absolutely love Lady Kima. Such sarcasm, much mocking.
Man when the barbarian is the voice of reason, they have a problem.
that moment then the druid with legendary wisdom of 22 acts like its 4 because the person playing her is stupid
yaeh, that's my main issue with Marisha, she seems to get her charisma and wisdom confused regularly while roleplaying
@@Neutral_Tired As Alyero wrote, 10 means average, she's worse than Tiberius was with his 4 Charisma.
I mean it doesn't matters if charisma or wisdom for you are right, she seems to confuse those both.
A wise char thinks before it acts, not acting impulsive and with the reason of a 8 years old child all the time.
Not much difference in this issue in Campagin 2, althought Boe is just a little annoying, not complete sociopathic like Kiki.
Its really painful at times, but gladly its only one out of six, so it doesn't harms the fun of the show too much
(at least not for me).
Wolfe Fumblepaw tibs had 20 cha and 4 wis, but either way, i get what you’re saying
@@alyero6341 Right and Grog who should barely be able to string together a sentence is right on character, or anyone is playing at an intelligence level well above an average person, or anyone is following their actual alignments. Wisdom is life experience. No matter how wise you are, you know nothing about anything beyond your experience........as a druid living secluded in the wilds would know nothing about city life. Grab any old uncontacted tribe member on earth today and bring them to new york city, see how that plays out.
Keyleth talking to Matthew Mcconaughtree is always such a gift
It's Matthew mahogany...get it right.
@@timdavidson8191 I took some careful consideration but I have to agree with you.
That moment when the barbarian is basically like "let's not resort to violence just yet, let's see how this plays out first." That is incredible character development and usually a good idea to take into account.
Pretty sure it was Travis doing a little OOC damage control, cause that whole spiel was _wild_
@@alhemičarka If you want to stretch the limits a bit, Grog isn't stupid, he just has limited mental capabilities that are taken up by the subject he is really good at: all things battle related. Thus it could be argued that knowing when not to fight falls well within his area of expertise and thus isn't completely OOC. He generally doesn't indulge this restraint because most foes he comes up again he's pretty confident he can take...but he knows damn well given the situation that Raishan could destroy them at that moment.
It's one of the things I noticed...almost all of his "Intelligent Grog" moments revolve around combat in someway-shape-or-form. I'd argue the most stretchy use of that would be when he kinda comforts Vex & Keylith after Percy's death but even that could kinda fall under dealing with the aftermath of fighting too.
@@RoninXDarknight this is like Goku being fight smart. Sure he has a int of 6, but when it comes to winning a fight, he’s a genius
Grog, "Guys, you're forcing me to be the voice of reason, and THAT IS NOT A GOOD LOOK FOR ME!"
@@RoninXDarknight exactly. Low int doesn't mean a lumbering oaf ALL the time. Grog doesn't care about book learning or math. But being who he is and his background, he's a tactical genius when it comes to killing things.
Group: "We can't tell Kima about Raishan"
**Group talks about Raishan in front of Kima like 10 minutes later**
Scanlan: "Oh..."
**Vax tells Kima about Raishan in great detail**
Me: **Slaps forehead so hard I think I might have a concussion please send help**
Percy's plan was perfect! Tell her there are elements of the fight she cannot know about for very important reasons, and that she will know what she doesn't know when she needs to know it. How do you fuck it up so badly so quickly?!
I do believe Percy did once say: Forgive my friends, for they are all idiots.
Welcome to Vox Machina! Lol
Keyleth was literally the ONLY person wanted to to tell her. Everyone else was like " it's cool, she'll kill the dragon anyway"
It's essentially the equivalent of a track runner who faceplants right when the starting gun goes off.
By being them?
is there anyway to get the sun tree and the black powder merchant talking to each other.
Mr T. I just imagine all the voices he does are lined up in chairs in his head like the crazy dude from Split, and he just let's them thanks there turn when needed lol
I honestly can't figure out which makes me laugh more... I think the merchant by just a teensie bit. 😂
Matthew mcconaughey is the sun tree, Matthew Mercer is victor. In the roles of a life time, coming 2020. Critical role, THe Legend Of Vox'Machina. Stay tuned for further listings.
Matt's Sun Tree voice sounds a lot like this surfer friend of mine. And Victor...omg, sounds too much like my husband! ROFLMAO...and I can't get up!
And the cartographer!
I think we all knew that Scanlan would eventually die being beaten to death by an angry woman.
Oh my! Everyone's faces full of pure shock and awe when Keyleth speaks her mind! They looked like schoolkids whose classmate had just started yelling and swearing at the teacher. Absolutely classic!
Yeah, no I don’t think that’s what their faces were saying lol
The Sun Tree is like a really high McCree.
Man, is this moon high...
I love that they gave sam..like the most syncopated, difficult to track beat possible for that rap.
what makes you assume Sam didn't choose that himself?
They'd avoid all the gender issues if they just didn't Asum things.
HA
Matteo Bortolotti *Slow Clap*
