Scanlans plan for the the magnificent mansion was freaking brilliant. Letting the soldiers come in and get a good hot meal in a safe space to help rebuild moral and get them away from starvation is perfect side use for that spell.
Per the spell, the mansion contains enough food for a 9 course banquet for 100 people. There are roughly 200 soldiers in the fort at that moment. I'd say half of a 9 course banquet is still a pretty good meal.
Why does everyone forget they already let people in back near Westruun? This isn't the first time they've sheltered a large group of people in the mansion.

Watch Matt's face and body language once he starts describing the party noticing the slaves and suffering from the heat. There is already a hint of Senokir in there and I know he made him up on the spot but I like to think that about that time he was working on an image of the scenery, the general feel of the place and that it seeped into the creation of the NPC. "Yeah [the songs] give a lot of insight if you pay attention." Seeing as Percy had *I'm Not Okay (I Promise)* as like his first song for the first playlist, I think I got all I need about him from that.
I have had a group of friends for years that are all a very close knit group, we shared almost everything in common save for one thing, D&D. I always bought right into the stereotype of D&D being a stuffy nerd game that just wasn't my speed, they all tried to get me to sit in on a session but I refused and from time to time they would blow off hanging out with me to all play D&D together. It pissed me off and I'll admit I developed a bit of a complex about it and started actively hating on D&D without actually knowing what it was really like to play. One day one of them challenged me to watch or listen to an episode of critical role and not fall in love with it, I grudgingly accepted and listened to an episode at work, I was smiling and laughing to myself the entirety of the day. Before I knew it I had listened to tens of hours worth of critical role and a week later I got help making up a character sheet and joined my friends regular game. I've never looked back, my point was to say thanks I guess to the community of critters and the cast of CR for helping me get past my hangups and have some of the best nights in with my friends in my entire life
Want to make sure your kids never do drugs? Get them hooked on D&D, They'll spend all their money on dice. That's what I love about the game. It brings people together. I play with my family every Saturday. No tablets or phones of video games. Just the 6 of us laughing for hours.
I was in the same boat around this time last year. All of a sudden the Game Grumps started a series and even though I thought it was super nerdy, I also didn't want to be a douche about it. I decided that I would watch it, and if I didn't like it that was that. Needless to say, the fact that I'm here right now should hint you on how that went.
I am 100% here for stories like this. i feel like i missed out, my friends/family didnt even tell me they had played D&D or some ttrpg, until i found critical role and went apeshit with it.
To be fair, they are only honorary members and don’t have official titles or duties. As evidenced by Scanlan-fly getting bounced out of the meeting before Uriel stepped down
3:26:09 Liam's ability to stay in character as Laura's picking hair off his face has me laughing much harder than I should be at something so mundane yet adorable
cant clerics use the spell "create food and water"? if pike would be willing to use all spell slots she has, she could create enough for like 200 people. also, thats full meals, if we would ration it by lets say half, same for scanlans mansion, about 600 people could be supplied daily.
Well, basically, it was Matt "allowing it", as the Manison can only feed up to 100 People. Also, only "creatures" get expelled - Objects seems to have some "undescribed fate" upon them (And Damn, am I happy that the last GM did not notice, as we made a "Junk-Gun" from it....)
As an early warning, there will be a slight amount of video skipping and lag for the beginning half of the video. The audio should be ok throughout, but it was something that could not be fixed during the stream, the crew tried the best they could (switching servers, lowering bit rate, etc.).
I was watching the stream on both Twitch and Alpha when it was live. Interestingly, although Alpha had a bunch of quality drops that led to reboots, the video never once _froze._ And I'm getting increasingly frustrated over the "we just couldn't fix it" excuses when we now have two versions of each video with very, very different results.
+Page J. Yea considering there have been more problems since they started dual streaming with alpha, I wonder why. Seriously, if you know how to fix it, I bet they could use the help. I recommend, if you haven't, go to reddit and read where Lucas talked about their setup for CR and what they do to get ready as well as running it; as well as the the thread talking about the status of GnS where Zac also gave some insight of the inner workings. You could also watch the honesty hour where Lucas came on and talked about issues like this and their set up for the live shows. Pretty interesting and informative. Honestly, it was a twitch issue not on their end.
Wow, questionable planning. It’s almost as if, and hear me out on this, they’re not actually seasoned strategists but actors without a script just having fun and doing their best on the fly

CaptainTalon448 preparation isn't necessary, I do it as a DM anyway but rookie DM are the ones who do the most preparation because they're scared of the unknown
CaptainTalon448 well, yes, but I more meant that he knew he had put a Vestige there and so had probably set up some concept of the chain of events that would bring the players to the Vestige if they went to The City of Brass. I'm just curious how much. For instant my world book has a number of introductory or general adventure seeds pocked through it in case the heroes go vastly disparate places on a whim.
He build the location around items of interest. I imagine the fireplane was backdrop for the group, yes but Mercer has done a great job of worldbuilding around the "Vestaments."
Honestly I think they should have put more effort to contact their friends in Vasselheim. Both the Slayer's Take and the Temple of Bahamut have promised to help them if they proved themselves by finding some of the vestiges. Vax has connections to the Raven Queen's temple. Grog has connections to the district dedicated to Kord. Pike has her goddess' temple. With all those connections, they could easily convince Melora's followers to aid in supplying food and other supplies.
They were really focused on the fire plane and happy with Allura doing the dirty work with messages. I still want Viktor recruited. They could get that dwarf from the bar in the first or second episode too. I was always curious how strong he was.
Bunny Rabbit I'm fine with going to the Fire Plane before the final fight but not this episode. Alert all of the allies first because it will take awhile for them to be ready to move and then go to the Fire Plane.
Ok. I did some math. If Vex and Keyleith both cast Locate Object (concentration, 10 minutes, range 1000 feet), and Keyleith can cast Wind Walk (duration 8 hour, speed 300 ft + plus DASH action = 600 ft / 6 seconds). At that speed, each of them could travel a path that is 6,000 ft long and 2,000 ft wide, or about 1.1 mi long and 0.4 mi wide. After 9 minutes (10 minutes of Locate Object less 1 minute for the conversion required for wind walk), each of them could cover about 4 square miles. Together they would cover about 8 square miles in 10 minutes. If they are unsuccessful after the first 10 minutes, they could just cast Locate Object again, transform, and repeat as necessary. Manhattan has an area of about 22 square miles. If the City of Brass is about the same size as Manhattan, it would take 30 minutes to cover the entire city.
But they break consinrtation on locate object to shift into cloud form becuase that takes one minute active consitration right? And then they can't cast once in cloud form
I love how Matt withholds all this critical information until they ask the question. "Do you know our father?" "Why yes I do!" I have this awesome magic ability to call everyone you need, but I'm not going to tell you about it until you ask!
Celestial Vengeance nah it'll but just like pike with serenray. Your god the dm will smash his fist down onto the game board and obliterate the enemy figurine. WHAM
She mentioned it when they brought up that they needed to contact people. Should an NPC list off every spell they know when they introduce themselves or something? Even my party members don't know every spell or proficiency my Bard has. Lol.
I'm just commenting on how perfect the con saves were when they entered the city. Vax and Keyleth both have connections to various forms of protection, beyond their fire resistance things, so they're completely fine. Grog grew up in harsh environments, so he can weather it easily. Vex and Percy take it, albeit uncomfortably, and the gnomes both barely skin by, one because of beauty coming at a price of fragility and the other because wearing plate armour is like being cooked alive at those temperatures.
Percy: "I've got a good idea..." *proceeds with something that assumes 12 different arbitrary things* Matt: *looks to another character that actually specializes in the topic percy is rambling about* "You know from personal experience that that was bullshit."
Vax: "I've got a bad feeling about this whole mission. I don't think we should even be here." Also Vax: "Let's follow these shady looking strangers who have invited us to follow them to an unknown location."
Scanlan: "Stanley, invisible!" (Goristro demon illusion poofs away) Vex: "Scanlan, I think you left a little bit of Scry on the ground there." Scanlan: "Just get in the city and find me some new pants."
3:35:23 Percy is certainly thinking of something 3:43:48 Percy loses his faith in humanity. Aka: Finding out your quasi-girlfriend is way too kinky for you.
I just want to thank critical role for the amazing entertainment and helping me get into dnd. I've haven't been this excited or sad about a tabletop game in a while so thank you
i am asking-nay, demanding-that shirtless percy working on a trebuchet be included in tlovm. i just think that it would really be good anatomy practice for the animators and would also be a very important moment for scientific education. moments like this are just so foundational to the lore and also it would be super hot i mean helpful

It showed that he was unprepared for it when it came to the description of the city when they first entered around 2:50:00ish. He stumbled over it, making mistakes. I am massively impressed with how quickly he recovered an took back control.

If one wanted to find these playlists, where are they? Can someone post a current link?
"Ive been under him for 15 years" Laura's face summed up my reaction perfectly lol
Just the 6 of us laughing for hours.
artrekz Dice are cheap compared to books, maps, minis, paint, etc...
That’s what it is all about man having the best times with your friends and family.
If you listen close enough you can hear Fjord weeping over his ring of fire resistance

i love how *everyone* just conveniently forgets that vox machina is a member of emons council just as allura is. even they themselves
To be fair, they are only honorary members and don’t have official titles or duties. As evidenced by Scanlan-fly getting bounced out of the meeting before Uriel stepped down
Even in C2: "Who's on the Tal Dorai council??"
'Every time you ask, another member dies!'
Basically they were only members when it was convenient for Uriel.
They fight dragons and get killed every other day. I think a bit of memory loss is forgivable.
3:26:09 Liam's ability to stay in character as Laura's picking hair off his face has me laughing much harder than I should be at something so mundane yet adorable

the day we discovered Scanlan could feed an army.
Jackson LeTourneau The mansion can do a 9 course meal for 100 people.
cant clerics use the spell "create food and water"? if pike would be willing to use all spell slots she has, she could create enough for like 200 people.
also, thats full meals, if we would ration it by lets say half, same for scanlans mansion, about 600 people could be supplied daily.
@@DarksnakemrniceguyThey could TOTALLY open a restaurant, and not need to buy the ingredients!
A chicken buffet
Well, basically, it was Matt "allowing it", as the Manison can only feed up to 100 People.
Also, only "creatures" get expelled - Objects seems to have some "undescribed fate" upon them (And Damn, am I happy that the last GM did not notice, as we made a "Junk-Gun" from it....)
As an early warning, there will be a slight amount of video skipping and lag for the beginning half of the video. The audio should be ok throughout, but it was something that could not be fixed during the stream, the crew tried the best they could (switching servers, lowering bit rate, etc.).
thanks a lot!
+
I think if the audio is fine, that is all that matters. I can handle video lag etc etc, but audio for this kind of thing is a big no no. IMO.

I can already imagine the encounter:
Gilmore: "Victor, fine man, would you be so kind to fetch me some powder?"
Victor: "Powder! Yessss" *runs towards a black powder satchel with a candle in his hand and explodes*
Cenokir: "... Ha.ha....."
I actually read this in their voices, plus Matt's normal/DM voice for the bolded part
Add the sun tree in the mix :D
From a DM perspective, I do wonder when and how much Mercer had set aside for that place in his "Just in case they go here" stash.
James Closs A good DM has a lot of that prepared. Sometimes though you just have to go with it
CaptainTalon448 preparation isn't necessary, I do it as a DM anyway but rookie DM are the ones who do the most preparation because they're scared of the unknown
The need comes first, the substance after.
I don't know why, but I really want to see if they could get that half-orc that Grog fought to come help also. :P
Yeah, having him and the Earthbreaker would have really been interesting to see.
Yeah, not everyone can teleport
It just takes one minute, it's not concentration, but it does mean you can't move or take other actions.
@@alexv3357 youre considered incapacitated when you're changing form

Celestial Vengeance nah it'll but just like pike with serenray. Your god the dm will smash his fist down onto the game board and obliterate the enemy figurine. WHAM
She mentioned it when they brought up that they needed to contact people. Should an NPC list off every spell they know when they introduce themselves or something? Even my party members don't know every spell or proficiency my Bard has. Lol.

You're in the Fire Plane! Every second is hot there! Lol
I’m glad someone else appreciated the pun!

She's adorable, and also the party is less likely to die.
It’s also always clear how excited Ashley is to be there and how excited everyone is to have her there
VM: “how are we gonna contact all these people in time?? We’ll just have to write a bunch of letters I guess”
Me, haven seen C2 already: *”sendingsendingsendingsendingsendingsending”*
Aww really wanted Matt to say the message out loud, for c2-nostalgia if nothing else
Scanlan was MVP this episode. That bit at the gates?? Incredible. The bit with the slavers? Incredible. Damn son. I can forgive you the three shirts and the dumb stein quotes lol!
Matt avoiding saying “It’s high noon” is hilarious
Probably at this point in time, he's said it so much for fans at conventions, and didnt want to say it in front of his friends because he knew they'd tease him.... but ultimately it failed lololol
2:55:00 (Actually more at 3:26:53) Almost a year ago, I was here, witnessing (unknowingly) Matt brilliantly pull Senokir form thin air. He have later stated that he improvised the character on the spot.
3:49:22 This dynamic! and the wonderful addition of the deadpan laugh of the fire genasi!
I am not to sure why i tear up when looking at all Art. Its crazy that a show can induce such an emotional reaction.
