PRP injections helped my healing journey, 3 years I’ve been recovering, after injections in both elbows 2 times it took me 6 months to gain strength and function without pain. My strength isn’t what it used to be, such is life now. Best wishes to all who read this, good luck with your recovery. 30 years of hard yakka

      I had Prp injections after 1.5 yrs of pain. Doc said I had smutz for tendons... Basically nothing much left. All dark gray on the ultrasound where a healthy tendon would show white. Both elbows. Injections in May last year, then again in September. First time it was two weeks till I could drive. Two months before I had decent mobility again. After second set I was driving in two days, mobility in a week. By November I felt better than before the may injections. December ultrasound showed almost completely healthy tendons but I still had pain. Physical therapy for 6 months... A little more progress. Another 6 months and here I am still with some minor pain (almost constant). Thankfully this year I've been able to do my job at half throttle ( concrete finishing). I can drink coffee pain free and open door knobs pain free. So fairly happy. But would love to get rid of the residual pain and gain the other 50% strength back. I've been trying flossing of the arms. That gives short term relief and maybe some longer term healing. Just last two weeks I'm trying muscle scraping on one elbow. Seems to help a tiny bit. Will continue that for a couple more weeks. Frustrating that this started in October 2019 and I'm still in semi rough shape. I'm 42 so I understand that I heal super l slower than I used too... I'll keep searching and trying

    PLEASE READ : I had tennis elbow for nearly 2 years and I found the cure that worked for me, revealed now: Before this, I tried all the normal stretching of the forearm and wrist and the other combos usually prescribed, dozens of snake oils, ointments anti-inflammatories, tried lots of different physios , ice, heat lamp, RICE, even massaging and stretching the opposite elbow in a homeopathic kind of way, blade massaging, hard ball , soft ball massage - no luck. No difference. Tried modifying the diet, didn't seem to help. The cure only came after searching and trying hundreds of youtube vidoes whereupon I eventually found the two gold nuggets required, so credit where credit's due. One: If you search for the AthleanX channel and tennis elbow, you will find the channel presenter Jeff suggesting that in his experience, elbow problems of this nature stem from the *shoulders,* not the elbow itself - the rationale being that the shoulders form part of a dynamic chain of arm movement: Stiff, inflexible shoulders and / or bad posture means the elbow tendons are always overworking and the long-term fix was to sort your shoulders / posture out. Interesting, I thought. The vid is here: ruclips.net/video/qTjDq3_D-FU/видео.html Two: I then searched further and after trying dozens of different posture / shoulder stretch exercises I found the magic one required : the W stretch. Sometimes combined in a combination called the YTWL stretch. There are more and more vids appearing on this now, but here's a good one: ruclips.net/video/6C-wfV27bzI/видео.html - the guy in this goes through a bunch of great exercises, and I'm sure they are all good but personally it was the 'W' stretch he demonstrates that worked for me. I never force my shoulders back doing this - I hold the W with the tiniest of force.. I found it is MUCH better to stretch gently for a longer period of time ( like a minute ) that to press hard for a short time. I couldn't believe it but the TE had virtually disappeared after 2 weeks of just doing this quick routine twice a day. If all else has failed, like the title of this suggests, it may be worth giving a go. Also as I said before, don't waste your money - I never found ANY topical ointment that made the slightest difference to the condition. The suggestions in the Focus Physical Therapy vid all sound like good advice to me, definitely worth taking this advice as well, no point aggravating the elbow further. Remember however the W exercise can be done seated or standing and only takes a few minutes a day. I would be interested in hearing this channel presenter's comments on this idea of the shoulders being the root cause. In my view it could well be that the elbow is suffering a long-term overuse injury, but the inflexibility of the shoulders is preventing healing from taking place. Whatever, I am not a physio, just a guy who had this condition real bad for two years and tried everything (except shockwave therapy and surgery) and I'm just passing on the cure that worked for me. I do this W stretch a couple of times day now every day to maintain health, and I suggest that would be a good idea even after your TE is better, to help prevent it happening again. Good luck.

      Hi @nickpounder1757. Thanks for your post. I've had golfer's elbow as opposed to tennis elbow. Do you think the W stretch could help golfers elbow pain? I've had the pain over a year now.

    • @nickpounder1757
      @nickpounder1757 8 месяцев назад

      Hiya. Well, I had that too, I got it from doing pull-ups using two parallel bars as opposed to a single bar. Turns out this is excellent for the lats, but truly awful for putting strain on the elbow! In this case, the solution was to stop doing that sort of pull-up, and as a rehab I've found two things are very good: The 'waiters' stretch whereby you hold your arm back straight and twist your hand outwards and hold for a period, say a minute, that was helpful. I can't remember the vid but if you do a youtube search on 'golfers elbow waiters exercise' you should pick it up. Secondly, there is a kind of stretch that seems to popular with arm wrestlers. There's different ways of doing this but say I am seated, I place my arms straight so the hands are against the inside of the knees , with the palm side up - this is important, and making a fist. I then push GENTLY in with the knees and resist the push with the hands. Much better I think to do this really gently but hold for a much longer period of time. This one really helps. Lastly, a technique that seems to be gaining popularity is 'voodoo flossing' you might want to google that, but basically this involves getting a strip of physio band and wrapping it semi tight around the tendons where the issue is and performing gentle slow, very low-weight exercises. I've only just started trying this for some other injury, so can't report back but it's out there if you want. My last bit of advice is - don't bother with steroid injections for this kind of injury. I have a hip tendinosis and in desperation I went for a jab recently, but overall I'd say it's just made it worse. I think these things I'm afraid are fixed only by time and gentle rehab. Good luck! @@eoinbairead3924

    I've been dealing with tennis elbow pain for about 4 months -- it's actually from playing tennis. I stopped playing once the pain became unbearable, and I've tried various PT methods at home (I had a phone consult with a PT). I will see some improvement, but then I'll back slide, and right now I'm in a period of increased pain. It's on the top of the forearm running back to the elbow, but it's also in the crook of my arm (the PT suggested that I have biceps tendinitis), and also on the outside of the elbow, close to the funny bone. Flexing and then straightening the elbow causes pain, as does lifting any weight at all with the palm facing down (such as taking a cutting board out of the drying rack). I'm really feeling hopeless these days, it's a frustrating injury to say the least.

      Hey man, I am feeling for you. In a similar situation, 2 month and on. My tennis elbow came from a combination from tennis + gardening work. I play ~10h per week of 4.0 level matches / drills; i have decent relaxed technique using my body and never had tennis elbow before, but first time in my life i did some gardening work for couple weeks and it was too much. My learnings from TE: 1/ read "talk tennis" forum if you haven't yet, search te or tennis elbow there, many experiences and advices 2/ I had to accept to stop playing with my right hand. I don't stop using my right hand in daily life even if it causes pain (like you said, even simple flexing and strengthening was pain some days). I don't do any strengthening exercises like flex bar until the pain reduces to zero in daily life, I plan to start flexbar very slowly and gradually after. I don't do intense stretching as it worsens the pain. I do some light pressuring massage in the evenings, like pressing a point in my arm and keeping pressure for 20secs, I do it far away from elbow, and it seems to be helping a little. Braces or ice didn't do much help. 3/ It took 2 weeks after I stopped playing with right hand to start seeing less pain in daily life. 4/ I started to learn to play tennis with the left hand to keep the sport going. Its not easy, but very interesting experience 5/ Overall this experience also led me to learn much more then I knew before about tennis form and technique and exposed some things which i was doing wrong, like my wrist was often bent in forehand finish or backhand lag or serve and even shadow swinging without the ball was causing pain. Wrist should be neutral at most times in all shots. Backhand type shots and serves are the worst for elbow, forehand is OK, so study you backhand shots form how you hit them, to not repeat in future. I have also increased the size of my grip, I had it too small as i liked the feeling, but it is not good for elbow. I have also reduced tension from 23kg to 16kg:) Lastly, I changed to multifilaments.

    Enthesitis due to Ankylosing Spondylitis opened the door to a tennis elbow type of pain that never ever ever goes away. 7 years since it first started, I am still dealing with it. Flexbar loading seemed to take me on the right path, but even after graduating to the Blue, the most demanding, it came right back -- even though I tried to acclimate to every new demand I placed on it. For a super minor case, many things will work. For something perhaps more rare; there are unknown components evidently at work. Sigh

    Mmmm, mostly recovered and the PT tips here weren't the answer. As far as I can tell it was irritated by overwork of the muscles on the back of the arm pulling the elbow joint around slightly which irritated the tendon. It comes on fast because the constant irritation caused by the tendon pull isn't an issue until you do something that really upsets it, and then once upset the tendon pull irritation is enough to keep it upset and sore so you feel like it never recovers.
    I know that was true because a simple self adjustment exercise (the one with the band on the elbow joint, pull arm in with other arm and squeeze a bit) brought instant relief, and it was mostly fixed by working the other set of muscles (in particular the ones engaged when you grip with your little and ring finger).
    In addition would recommend the arm tube style brace for sport and the strap style brace that puts pressure on the back for keyboard work. Also a ibuprofen before sport makes a big difference to how much irritation you are left with the next day. A massage gun is also great for relaxing the muscles. If you are working at fixing the muscle imbalance causing the tendon to get pulled then most of the issue left is the body gets stuck in irritated mode so anything you can do to give it relief will aid recovery.
    Btw I don't think there was ever any real issue with my tendon's strength so all the strengthening of the back of the forearm which is what most PT love to do didn't help, infact it made it worse as it just pulled the elbow out of position more and that was the primary problem. So if you have had tennis elbow for 6 weeks and you've been following some advice and it's not getting better then chances are the advice you've been given is wrong.

Intuitively, I have been treating my issue as you recommend, being careful not to overload or subject myself to continued repetitive movements, which is difficult, just as you say. I find that the most painful moments for me are when my arm is hanging, relaxed and I simply bend my arm. Keeping tension in my arm makes the pain disappear through the same movement. I've had this condition on and off for about 20 years through cortisol shots, PT, ibuprofen and exoskeletal supports. If you use your arms for heavy work or exercise, like I do, I can assure you the condition will never fully go away but you can manage the discomfort through everything mentioned in this video. Unfortunately its pretty much of a life long affliction like many other types of chronic inflammation but use the info in this video to manage the issue and control the pain... everything mentioned here is helpful, and in my lengthy experience with this problem, definitely worthy of your time.

      I can relate. It is cyclical for me. It get betters until it is not. For me, I know what my triggers are. For example, I know my tendons hate the hammer curl motion. This is what generally triggers it for me. I get confident thinking, if I start very light, I can strengthen the tendon and eradicate it for good. Nope! I fall right back into pain and weeks of recovery then I have to start from the beginning again.

    I have tennis elbow on my right elbow since last year. Had Mri done and found that I had a 3mm tear. Had 3 therapy sensions of 9 times each. 9 rounds of acupuncture and got a cortisone shot in August. I was off work for 6 months. After 2 weeks after the cortisone shot, I went back to work and was feeling great. I took it easy at work, but I started to feel my left elbow starting to get strained a month ago. And now my right both my elbows hurt. I can't sleep unless I wear my compression sleeves on both arms. It even hurts to lift my blanket at night.
    Just went with my specialist today, and he ordered a prp injection for my right elbow and a mri for the left side. I'm hoping this relives the pain.

    I have recently developed this through using small pruning shears over the space of only an hour or so, just using strong grip force which was quite difficult as the plant I was pruning was a flax bush, I had to apply a fair amount of pressure really, I only noticed the pain develop hours later and it grew worse as time went by. It's been around 4 weeks now, I was given a brace, like the one you use in another video but without the inflatable pillow part, just a piece of plain velcro really!
    I will follow your advice in this video and try to work it but not overdo it I think. I have had this before years ago after doing a repetitive job, technically returning to work too soon to an unsuitable job, years earlier I had multiple shoulder dislocations - around 5 or 6, I lost count to be honest. I had one shoulder reconstruction that was opening the shoulder up method, that was ok and it didn't dislocate and I had no shoulder problems from then really, but I think this is when the tennis elbow occurred. I had RSI type symptoms (I thought so anyway) in both wrists from using a machine that required lots of downward pressure then application of 2 buttons with your thumbs whist holding down wooden framing for large mirrors. Basically, it nailed 90-degree angles till you rotated the piece and completed a square. The machine would also grip then apply nails to the underside of the work piece in an upward direction, I had to have another surgery on the shoulder, and this was done arthroscopically probably 20 yrs ago now. I'm 57 - I think the elbow will require more drastic work, maybe injections, I hope not but the Dr said if the brace and local topical volataren don't work in 4 weeks he'll inject it. It's been over 4 weeks now...I don't want to have steroid injections so at this stage I will stick to lighter use whilst rubbing the arm gently and often. It has not healed at all, and I would say it's become more painful actually.
    I can barely use my arm it's so painful, even trying to pick up a cup of coffee I find I need to assist that arm as the strength is minimal and it's very painful. I can't remember how the prior tennis elbow healed. I have a feeling it disappeared once I had the shoulder re-worked on via the arthroscope method. Maybe Dr will have notes on this, but my files were transferred to another practice, and much were just photocopying those days and no real keyboard entry to a computer was made so it's a matter of sifting through pages of junk. I'm a photographer so this may be making it worse as my camera is very heavy. I try to use my left arm as much as I can though. I will watch more of your videos - thanks for putting them up on here.

    I've had TE for over 30 years ... seemed to be work-related back in the 90s ... I spent 50 years in that industry ... seemed to go away after I retired ... but it's back with a vengeance. I've had PT on my forearms (and elbow) [Back in the early 90s] ... deep tissue massage, and that both hurt and felt good, but my forearms are still very tight, and they do not respond well to good stretching techniques. I can't help but think that something has been overlooked along the road to diagnosis and treatment. I think that if the diagnosis is correct, the root cause identified, and the intervention is good, there should be a resolution. Not yet.

    Got a tennis elbow to the point I could still play, but when I would push the lower arm and the joint, it would hurt. Also slight stiffness would appear the day after. I quit playing for almost two weeks, started fasting for 4 days in a row per week and took magnesium and collagen next to healthy food like fish, kiwi, hemp seeds, goji berries, inca berries, … after less than a week I started playing again and it is much better. No more pain, no more stiffness. I wouldn’t say i got rid of it completely but I’m playing a bit less now (not every day multiple times anymore). I also think that if you stop using that arm, your tendons are not getting stronger and the problem will come back as soon as you restart your activity…

    Look, I'm desperate at this point. This was a tease to me. I already have modified everything, including elbow placement while I sleep. I thought you were going to give some simple exercises to strengthen while allowing the tendon to heal: typical PT stuff. Instead I get to see someone doing an exercise which is not used, and people doing climbing. The latter is just torture to us, who can't even do our daily things that we need to without pain. Disappointing.

    I have developed tendinitis in my right elbow primarily. I have felt slight symptoms in my left elbow but not often. My right elbow now hurts most of the time especially after work. I’m a driver and drive up to 11 hours a day up to 70 hrs a week. I believe the issue is with over gripping. I’ve started to try relaxing my grip, not over lapping my fingers as much and trying to keep pressure and control on the steering wheel with my palm but there are times when I do have to have more control and I’m forced to grip tightly. I try to vary my hand position on the wheel when I can but the safest hand positions are the cause of the problem. I stay in these hand positions most often. I’ll start incorporating these tips and trying the wrist support instead of the elbow strap as much. If you have more in depth advice for professional drivers please send it.

    • @focusrehab
      @focusrehab  5 месяцев назад +1

      both can be challenging but on opposite sides of the elbow - the golf swing is the inside of the elbow, the mouse is the outside, and both have unique challenges - golf swing is a problem of too much force when tissues are not strong/adapted, and mouse is a problem of too much repetition with reduced conditioning - a solution for both requires increasing capacity via exercises and changing postures while working frequently (every 30 minutes or so doing elbow/shoulder/wrist exercises and stretches). good luck!
