Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
Big respect taking care of the reef shark. The hook tool is pretty slick. Back in the day I used to make a variation of it from the crotch of a small branch for removing hooks from gullet hooked catfish and other freshwater fish even though the fish were headed for the kitchen it was just a lot easier and less bloody.
I use that same style of fishing for flathead catfish, I will put a "tell" on my line up near the top, usually a leaf or blade of grass, so I can see instantly when the line starts free spooling on the bite. I don't lose to many fish that way, just click the bail over and let the rod load up on the circle hook. Rodney is a helluva fisherman.
Super cool vid Mike. The respect and Releasing of sharky was cool, same as we do 🙂 They are all about the eco system for our Ocean. Tight lines sea you out there soon
Why would you use and 8500 reel and only load 20lb braid? Would 30 or 40lb be a problem? You have the drag for it, less likely to break of. Just curious. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I guess you're referring to per regulations. My hope is in the future there won't be any confusion for live or cut bait fishing because only circle hooks are allowed. They save fish so why not always use them when you can almost always expect to release fish with size and limits on almost everything nowadays.
I see you use a more standard style spin reel, but haven't seen you use a bait runner style reel yet. Have you not tried the bait runner style, or is the standard style better for your style of fishing? I ask because it seems like you are trying use a standard style as a bait runner. Your style clearly works, but maybe the different technology might make this better or worse for you.
You pretty much covered my question on bait runner reels. I recently bought a kastking Sharky 3 6000 but haven't had a chance to use it. I'm guessing Mike's answer is that the bait runner reels offer more chances for something to break on a reel and as a charter boat captain he sticks with the tried and true tuff stuff only, hence the Penn reels.
Thought you can't use treble hooks with natural bait for any regulated species I guess you could only "target" non regulated fish but that's not stopping you from hooking into a regulated species. As in this video sharks eating your bait but you can't catch sharks with treble hooks

I use the same thing with catfish! Very effective 👌
Mullets are delicious when butterfly cut and salted down and cooked by a open fire on forked stick. If you don't believe me, try it.
Top Shelf Video!
Animated filter was cool as... Great stuff guys.
Nice video Captain. That outro is pretty sweet as well.
Where do I get the clip you're using to hold your line when bail is open?
Do you tie the stinger to leader or straight to main line?
We use 15ft of leader first
@@ReelReports is it possible to make a rig video, showing various types offshore rigs and setups
I learned something today thanks love the clip idea. When you're bait gets excited whatch
Not including the 40lb flouro leaders, are you spoiling up the 20lb spinning setups with 100% mono?
how deep do the baits typically get fishing them weightless?
Awesome outro!!! 😀😀

Great Vid Guys 🤙🏻
Great rigging tip. Where did you get that bucket? Looked all over for one. So far no luck.
The blue bucket? Tractor supply!
I want this same set up of a boat where can i purchase one ?
Where did you buy the 3 rod holder??
What kind of set up ur using?
Won’t the fish just go hide? How does the rig work underwater ? How do you control the depth you fish in?

Great video, thanks for sharing!
50lb braid to a top shot of 20lb mono. Nice to have the capacity and 20lb is stronger than most think.
@@ReelReports , Thanks for clarifying!
Great video! I'm still confused on when you can use a hook other than a circle.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Awesome!
Capt. Mike is that a through hull chirp transducer or is it transom mounted? Thanks I'm replacing the old unit on my boat also with Simrad...
Thru-hull
Hey Captain Mike, have you ever checked out the spinfishers with the live lining feature? They seem perfect for free lining big baits.
I personally don’t like them. It’s still a slight tension.
awesome dehooker!

4:55 Look at that. Your 1st mate is dirty deckin' ya!!
Would you be able to cast with that or with the bait fly off

Doesn't that rule only apply to land based shark fishing?
