I think the reason matt did so much damage is because proptosis has no downside with trisagion, so he was always doing maximum damage no matter how far away he was
There's an interesting nerf here, you can make it so the angelic d6's chance to reroll is the same as your devil/angel chance and the rest of the time the item disappears. That creates a playstyle of not wanting to "see" the devil/angel rooms so you always have 100% chance at angel items but still not taking damage because you want the d6 to succeed at least most of the time
If I'm not mistaken, Hush disappeared because of the Trisagion + Proptosis combo. It looks like it stops the decreasing DMG of Proptosis. That, on top of multiple instances of DMG on the same enemy with Trisagion.

While watching this video an amazing idea came into my mind what if we make a mod about a dice that rerolls an item and gives you another item with the same quality of the original one and you can choose what item pool it draws it from, it should be called the controlled dice
the only way to really up the range of proptosis is with shot speed so 4:50 taking that item is bad with the 16% shot speed down, of course it is also a tears up but with sacred orb I would personally not worry about not finding enough tears ups.
Perhaps a way to actually balance this is that the dice has a chance to turn pedestals into soul heart, as often or less often than eternal d6 delete chance

Do the run where you use breath of life as a main sourse of damage and shooting as less tears as possible May be give yourself the relic or something to have decent hp even if you are bozoing with the breath This would be an interesting challenge I think
Matt even if you find it every single run, if you are doing a mod show case can you start with the mind+black candel? It makes the run really easy but not that easy so you should consider trying it
This item gave me an idea. What about a d6 that rerolls item pedestals into the item pool of the last room to spawn an item. So if I were to go into the treasure room, leave to fight the boss, then come back to roll the treasure it would roll into the boss room pool. Or if I got an angel room with an item and then I rolled the already opened treasure room it would roll into an item from the angel room

There is two primary reasons why Hush actually combusted from your damage. The first is the nature of multi hit attacks vs the boss armor. Long complicated explanation ignored, it is just a weird mechanic. The second is the damage multiplier of proptosis combined with crickets body giving you some exponentially high damage. When you take both of those together your actual damage stat would be much higher than what it shows on the stats, which was already a very high number. Oh and I almost forgot the other massive damage multiplier of holy light, which can activate multiple times thanks to Trisagion. Trisagion has a fun interaction where it can apply the tear effects you have every single tick of damage, which when you combine with the crickets body effect is pretty wild. TLDR: Trisagion kinda busted sometimes and is great vs boss armor.

The fact that you still somehow managed to get Polyphemus of all things after exhausting the angel pool is a true testament to the RUclipsr luck meta

normally, proptosis is a 3x multi, but for trisagion, it's a direct 6x damage multiplier, 0.33x to 2x damage per tick + homing, run won instantly

trisagon just completely obliterates the downside of proptosis so its just a straight 6x damage up with no downsides

Proptosis with tri gives more damage for the entire duration of the tear, so thats probably why you did so much damage.
Proptosis is only affected by shot speed, range doesn't affect it.
