    Definitely put in the second window in the kitchen. It will just make the place so much more peaceful all year round. Light in a room changes everything! Love your plans.

    Think you should definitely do an L shaped kitchen, the layout looks very fitting. But maybe put the pantry in the other corner, otherwise it will break the ‘flow’ of the kitchen worktops. Looks a bit awkward tbh.

      @lfuentes4098 5 месяцев назад +3

      Yes. Plus it’s not really going to be a walk in once you put shelving in it. I would consider starting with the other corner but with a front facing pantry cupboard and then your refrigerator next to that. Then you’ll have a continuous flow of counter and work area.

    I have no experience with pruning but I have seen trees survive worse. Olive trees cut at the base for instance, let's hope you'll see some sprouting in spring.👍

    I would consider the height of the cabinets when looking at a new window. The line you have now looks short for your height

  • @cybermanne
    @cybermanne 5 месяцев назад +3

    I think the tree might survive. It's got some reserve energy stored in the roots and stuff during winter. If that's enough for it to sprout a few small branches and leaves in the spring the tree will be able to produce energy during the summer and make even more leaves/branches next spring. I've seen a lot of trees pruned very harshly. Looking just like this, with pretty much nothing but the trunk left, and they seemed to survive. So unless there's a big difference in the smaller nuances (like time of year or the exact height of the cuts etc) I think there's a decent chance of survival.

    Great idea “mapping” the room layouts to the rooms with tape. I’d definitely put the extra window in the kitchen. It will give you plenty of light plus yet another view of your property. It looks as though the big thaw has started! That’s an awful lot of water to drain from the land. I shouldn’t take it to heart the criticism of the pruning of the apple tree. You are never going to please all the people all the time! ❤

    Great idea laying down the tape to test the layout. The kitchen pantry corner is exactly what my parents have, and it's really effective. The bathroom space upstairs also looks really usable, here in South Africa it's a common size as a second bathroom.👍

    Med gamle æbletræer skærer man kun de tørre grene væk, det kan man også gøre, når de springer ud, så fokuserer træet sin styrke på de intakte grene. Måske kommer det tilbage, men det kommer ikke til at bære æbler lige foreløbig. Se det som en læringseffekt 😉 Hilsen fra DK

      Fast om man har ett gammalt äppelträd som är så dåligt beskuret att alla grenarna är 5m över marken så måste man ju nästan göra nåt drastiskt så att man får lite grenar längre ner. Annars måste man ju stå på en stege för att plocka äpplen. Det orkar ju ingen.

    Hi Marcus,
    "60-year-old apple tree"
    Noted your insight in the harsh pruning of the apple tree. It did broke my heart. But I want to apologise here for my hard critic. As a u-tube-friend may I give general knowledge for trees and shrubs in the garden:
    - old trees are precious. Keep it unless you need the space. Advantages:
    - when flowering it will give you lovely spring feeling
    - hang a birds house for a lively moments when you are outside or inside and can watch the flying action in and out of the house
    - give you shade sitting under the tree on hot summer days.
    Watch trees and shrubs from all sides, take your time, before you cut them to get the form you would like to have.
    Actually you can do what you want with all your possession, but do it correctly, as you do plan for your house. Good luck. And good wishes for the coming spring to summer and so on.

    Glad to see you working on the kitchen. You might think about putting the larder in the corner and the fridge next to it, on the right of it. If you put the fridge in the corner, it will be too far away from the stove. When designing a kitchen, the general wisdom is to make the triangle between the fridge, sink and stove as small as you can. When those distances are too big, you waste energy walking back and forth, back and forth. Also, if you're going to extend the house, why not put the upstairs bathroom entirely in the extension? That would make the plumbing WAY easier, and keep the bedroom the size it is instead of making it smaller. 3 feet wide and 12 feet long is not going to be comfortable for a bath. It's going to feel like a cramped hallway, especially with no window, and the sloping ceiling.

    Gör badrummet större om det är möjligt. Ett skafferi bör helst ligga på norrsidan av huset om man vill ha det så svalt som möjligt, kanske skulle en placering där du tänkte ha kylskåpet vara bättre specielltom du sätter in ytterligare ett fönster. Du är verkligen en arbetsmyra, älskar dina videos. Hälsningar från Umeå.

    I would probably make that entire bedroom into one big bathroom, with space to move around comfortably. You would lose one bedroom, but have a beautiful place to relax and recharge. Since you have a guest cottage, this may work. Also, an extra window in the kitchen would make that space brighter, great idea.

    The general rule of thumb on pruning is to prune about 1/3 back at a time.

    The bathroom looks good, but the sloped ceiling looks like it's in the way of standing comfortably in the room -- and to fit a shower! Would you consider a bump-out in the slanted roof of the bathroom, for head height?

The apple tree is fine Marcus if it’s supposed to live it will if not then it is its time 🍎 a hard prune sometimes does these things good 👍🏼 kitchen plans looks great and bathroom great idea taping it out , when you or if you insulate the walls will it be over the wood clapping or under ? Have a great week x

    From where I can see, you are putting a cabinet/countertop in front of a window, and I think that blocking the window on the inside will make it difficult to clean, and on the outside it will look... awkward. I understand your desire to create a new window on the back (?) wall, but I would raise it so the bottom of the window is at least even with the height of your cabinet/countertop. Since this location appears on the back of the house, and there is no other window on that wall, (?) I don't think it needs to match the height of the other windows... style, yes. Exact height/dimensions, no.

    • @lfuentes4098

    loving your videos! Bingeing my way through and this is my first comment. In the kitchen your window and potential new one seem low for counter top/sink height. Are you raising the windows? Short counters? Or just I am wrong and it just looks short on camera? Definitely go for another window though! (who am i kidding' it could already be done since i am behind)

    • @MarcusStorm
      @MarcusStorm  3 месяца назад +1

      Glad to hear that! No you’re right, the windows are quite low in the cabin. The counter is gonna be normal height so the windows will go down below it. That’s alright though, I quite like that.
