A little tip. When you were describing your cost break down.. you said take your operating expenses and divide by 160working hours.
I recommend you factor your cost at a 60 or 65% scheduled rate.
If you factor at 160hrs- that means you have to be booked for 160hrs (100% capacity) to cover cost. That’s not really do-able. In your line of work you- there are many factors that will prevent you from working. Main one being weather.
But if you figure your numbers on a 60% capacity, which is realistic, then you can cover your cost even with delays and down time.
So instead of dividing your cost by 160hrs. Maybe divide it by 100hrs or 120hrs. That should give you a safe buffer that covers downtime.

Hey man. Love the videos. I'm in landscaping now but working into this field.
I typically try to add 20% to all materials to cover taxes and give you a little buffer.
You are spot on with your travel time, equipment load/unloading.
I don't think people really understand how much goes into preparation for each job.
I'll add a few extra hours in if I have to find or call around for materials.
It's funny how I'll show up at 10am with everything and people will say man you start late.... Uuuh no, this stuff doesn't just appear on my truck😅
    God bless brother! Thanks!

Hey dude one thing I always appreciate from your videos is your honesty. I “officially” started my dirt work business the end of last year and I work a good full time job at the same time, funny enough my father works in HVAC… anyways.. I am the main income and support my wife and two boys, so that was the primer for me starting the side business. I appreciate your insight and am learning along with you. God bless.

I do have my CDL’s so I’m wanting to eventually get a dump truck and do grading and hauling full time. You’re definitely inspiring me a lot but I’m having problems getting business.
