    "The ramp is collapsing" (beneath my million-dollar Mercedes race car), spoken as if commenting on the weather. Jay is truly a class act. Thanks so much for your down-to-earth attitude, and for sharing your fabulous car collection with us.

    I watch these videos every week and I see all these negative comments making fun of Jay and making fun of other commenters and it really kind of makes me mad. He doesn't have to share these things with us. It's not like he needs the fame and I bet with production costs this channel is only breaking even. We even get to see things when they don't go perfect.
    So if you're the kind of person who likes to leave angry comments, do what you got to do. But please take a second to stop appreciate all the hard work Jay’s team goes through so we can appreciate the vehicles and the people who made them.

      Jay is a big boy and a real comedian, So he knows how to take a joke. But with the commenters the ability to tell a joke varies. I think most people are trying to be funny, But most people don't have much comic talent. Speaking of talent, my brother in law is a talent agent. He told me about the strangest act he ever saw last week.......

    As a Brit I have only seen glimpses of his other life as a comedian and talk show host. I'm really impressed with Jay's reverence and respect for the great engineers, designers and renovators who dedicate their lives to creating and restoring these wonderful historic vehicles. Jay comes across as a genuine guy who sees himself as curator and custodian of some of the worlds most coveted vehicles. The result is a very watchable series, like a book I just can't put down!

    I'm sure he was cringing from that scrape that they put on the underside of the gullwing, but it was neat seeing him give the "no big deal". That's one of the big reasons why I admire him and his shop and all these videos he shares - he drives and uses his stuff, doesn't just polish and stare at them. That scrape just adds to the patina. Jay, if you're reading this, I just wanted to say how much admiration I have for you. And it's not the usual admiration for a Hollywood star because I really don't have any admiration for any of those people. It's admiration for what a normal, regular person you are despite being a Hollywood star. I admire your love for vehicles, your knowledge of them and the way you present this show. You must have had numerous fights with executives who have wanted to hide the occasional imperfections that crop up (like the scratch in today's episode). These people always want to present a sanitized, squeaky clean image of life, even while presenting a reality show. I want you to know that there are people out there (I am one) who greatly appreciate the fact that you show it like it was filmed..like it occurred. A true reality show. I watch every episode. Keep up the good work. There are very few people I subscribe to on RUclips but I will always be a subscriber to this show. ...a Canadian fan in St. Catharines, Ontario

    • @ekner
      @ekner 8 лет назад +13

      The centre of gravity is probably very similar to a big front wheel drive car, so the suspension would be fine. Think lorry suspension, really heavy duty stuff. As far as the design decision of making it with such a huge overhang... Crash safety would be like if you put an egg on the nose of a brick and drove it around like that, lol :P That's taking into account the materials and design styles of the time. A modern version of that transporter could be as safe as any new lorry if you really wanted to make it.

    The fact that they crushed the original Transporter is insane.
    I'd reinforce it a little bit so loading and unloading will get safer, because that scratch was really shocking, good thing that gullwing isn't fully restored yet.
    Why not go for a little more power? It's a transporter but the real thing wasn't called the Renntransporter for no reason and I'd really like to see one of those going at a 100 mp/h

      Yeah .. An AMG engine :D Then the truck is louder and probably faster than the 300 sl on top of it.
      Why are you people so angry about this? The guys who decided to destroy obviously made a bad choice, everyone does, it wasn't some perfidious plan they followed,
      And come on, those "CEOs" didn't pay anything, the Renntransporter was crushed about 50 years ago, I don't think one of them is still working

      People don't think of future values on what seems junk. Heck I see things all the time that I trashed as a kid and it's now worth something. I have a friend in his late 70s that is a real car guy and saved many things but he is really sad to think of when he was a kid how many of those old cars he cut up with a torch for a guy that sold scrap metal. They wouldn't have more than scrap value for 30-50 years. Think about what you throw away today as junk and what it could be worth in 50 years. Then again in 50 years it might still be junk.

      Back up to 12:25 There is no scratch. But it happened right where Jay was supposed to be watching so he has no one to blame but himself. Note that there is a break in the video so some expletives were probably uttered in the interim before he resumed his talk-show host unflappability.

    *As a comedian, an automobile collector, historian & buff, a restorer, the literal 'savior' of automobile of many different types and designs, rare automobiles that would otherwise have been left to decay, or worse, be destroyed. Mr. Leno has done more for our collective automobile history that he should be honored with an award by the combined world's auto manufacturers, (or what's left of them, anyway) And, just for being a regular guy, a good man that happened to make it BIG. However, even though I truly admire and respect Jay for so many and varied reasons... Mr, Leno is really one of the most truly absentminded drivers I've ever seen drive a car! lol. He rarely stays in one lane, always veering off into the next lane! He's a true 'Sunday Driver' lol! Yes, I am aware that Jay is actually an excellent driver, but just watch the way in which he drives in these videos, it's, as Jay would say, 'Hilarious!' lol.*

    it would be a good ideal to add a safety cable on the ramp stands, have it go from the ground point and clip to the ramp like 3ft back from the stand. that would keep them from easily collapsing and causing you to damage your car

      yea that's exactly my thoughts aswell and sure the restoration aint complete but im sure he didnt like that deep down inside. then again he probably doesnt care too too much about that because he isnt into these things because of the investment potential. he rarely sells cars and the ones he does probably dont interest him anymore. like the VIN # 003 Hemi Challenger (2012 or whatever) he sold at auction. back then you couldnt have the manual at all for the Challenger (how stupid is that). and a while back he sold his F150 Harley Davidson edition. the very first one made and the very first one to have the SVT Lightning package which didnt come in until later in the years of the Harley Davidson editions.
