I used to have islander niehgbours who would every fortnight make a hungi, sit around with the family sing and then would go around with a plate to the nearby neighbours. Man they were a nice family. Always happy, chearful and polite. Never ever find people like that ever again. Shout out to Harry and his wife Ella. From Yagoona, NSW. We miss you guys
That's true, everyone living on hard times now or just hates their neighbors 😂
I miss that you submitted ( Kalgoorlie wa.
Was allways felt like family. Years later still communicating.
God bless. Miss the caluture and the family inverment. The the singing the ❤️.
A culture that should not be lost. God bless.

An Ozzie from from over the ditch. 1st time I've EVER seen a genuine hangi from start to sharing on Christmas day at your home. Basically, it touched my heart... your love of Jesus and of your love for Family Values. Loved it all! Thank you.
I may just try doing a hangi here at my home to see how go.
Stay well, Grampa. And again, thanks for sharing.
Thank you and you are welcome, praise Jesus and hallelujah’s all round ✨✨✨
Same.... you wrote it for me.
Kia Ora from Te Kuiti, Waikato. Love an in ground hangi 😛. We put our top pallet upside down so it creates a pocket to hold the stones in. Happy hangi 🤙🍻
This is one of best videos I have seen in ages. So kiwi and reminds of when my uncle used to put down a hangi every Xmas since I was kid. Well done on keeping this video real.
Thank you and you are welcome 😝😝😝
Thanks for posting the video. Every New Zealander and Māori I have met in Australia have been good people. I went to a restaurant once called food star. The place was packed with islander people who were celebrating a wedding that day. They were having a good time and singing songs. Cheers from Australia.
You are welcome 😝😝😝
Young falla standing there watching the old boys do the mahi
Lol nothing new there 😝😝😝
It's rare to see/hear of let alone attend a typical WARM, LOVING, FULL OF KAI - Maori whanau gathering like this. What lucky moko's and kids Hori and Rangi have. Thank you for reminding me of the feeling of whanaungatanga! Miss that feeling. Kia ora from Rotorua.
Thank you and you are welcome, i agree it is a very rare thing these days ✨✨✨
Thank you so much for sharing, I'm maori born and bred in Gisborne, but I've been living in Melbourne, Australia for 30 years. Thank you for a reminder of back home. And an Aussie Grandpa to boot! Doing a Hangi! And speaking Te reo like a boss! Beautiful atmosphere!
Thank you and you are welcome 🐠🐠🐠
Really nice to see all the hard work going into the preparation for the Hangi.
Back in 2010 I visited New Zealand, my travel companion has family living there and one of his cousins had a good relationship with a Maori family.
We arrived at Christmas eve at Auckland after a 22 hour flight from the Netherlands, then a 40 minute drive took us to Piha beach.
After a short night sleep because of the jet lag we were invited to attend to the Christmas Hangi this family had organised.
We did only see the opening of the pit and the food taken out, the food was delicious and our thanks to the family great, it was a very special and heart warming welcome to New Zealand for us
In this video I could see the whole proces, and the whole atmosphere of the family gathering exactly as how I remembered it.
Kia Ora from the Netherlands.
Thank you for sharing that ✨✨✨

One of my relatives got married to a Maori bloke in Sydney in 1980. I was just a little kid. I still remember watching these big Maori blokes make a Hangi and dig it up. Great food, fed 50+ people.
The most we have done is 300 a lot of work involved, we use to do in ground hangi on a weekly basis 😝😝😝
Well done folks, I know how much work goes into small a hangi, much respect for both your efforts
Thank you 😝😝😝
Thanks for sharing. I’m from Hawaii, (live in Nz) We did the same earth oven, called Imu.
We used big round volcanic stones (lava rocks) instead of steel and iron, they glow hot but don’t explode. The rest is the same.
Usually we cook whole pigs etc, but I like the way you did it with individual meals.
I want to try it this way now. Kia Ora. 🙂🤙
Thank you we are having another one this Christmas 🎅 and as far as i know it will be done totally different I will record what is been done again 😝😝😝😝 and welcome to NZ and welcome to the channel 😝😝😝😝

New Subscriber, I was just wondering what the big pot was at the end of the table?
Thanks for making such a great video and it was amazing to see just how much work went into all of it, just a pity there wasn't a picture at the end of what it looked like so I can only imagine how incredible it turned out.
Amazing how much work goes into all of it with each part being a major workout.
Cheers Garry

Hey Trev, awesome video! Just a friendly precaution to you guys for your health and safety. Be mindful that most commercial pallets have arsnic in the timber as a treatment, and possibly other chemicals I'm unaware of, which in turn might contaminate your food, thus inadvertently poisoning you and your whanau. Especially with this hangi method of building the fire and iron implements directly over the food pit, which I think is a genius idea if using untreated timber. I actually would love to have a go at making a hangi this way. Be safe, and God bless you and your whanau in Jesus' name.
Praise Jesus and hallelujah’s all round thank you for pointing this out we make sure they are untreated and no chemical spillage not even powder, the irons we use are mainly cast the rest are ok we have used them multiple times when we used to sell hangi an no complaints lol 😝😝😝
@@HoriandRangisAdventures All over it. Praise Jesus that he keeps us safe in His wisdom!
I also notice some pallets were treated..You can tell treated pallets by checking on the side of them..if u see a stamp on the side it means the pallet as been treated and try to avoid using them, and used plain pallets without a stamp..but what an awesome hangi..Well done awesome job
@zaggin4real treated timber has a different colour to natural timber, none of these pallets were treated, treated timber has arsenic in it.
@@zaggin4real HT treated pallets are fine to use as thats means they have been heat treated, the ones you cant use are the MB treated ones. Peace and blessing
I really enjoyed the video mate thank you. Cool vibes and I’m trying to learn how to cook a mad hangi. I’m just an Aussie with a hole in the ground so far haha.
You are welcome and thank you 😝😝😝

Interesting way of doing it! Abit different from us South African's as there be alot more brandy involved while doing a braai "bbq" haha. Much love.
Yummy yums 😝😝😝
GOOD ON YOU TREV
Thank you 😝😝😝
Praise Jesus, Love it❤
Praise Jesus and hallelujah’s all round ✨✨✨
A lot of people today seem to use this method if they’re selling hāngi, but it lacks the smoked flavour of a hāngi cooked in baskets with smoke permeating everything. Also we never use pallets because they’re tanalysed.
Appreciate what you’re saying, the pallets we use are not treated except heat treated and there nothing wrong with using them 😝😝😝😝
This is making me freaking hungry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yummy yums 😝😝😝
that was awsome

Just a question which part of the Hangi is traditional prior to the Europeans arriving in New Zealand. My guess is the hole in the ground as all the meat from Pork, Chicken, Lamb, Beef and Venison were all introduced by the Europeans.
Kumara
Good stuff alright 👍
Yummy yums 😝😝😝
This clip is Mean Maori mean
Hangi on point Merry Christmas 🤶 to you and your whanau Rangi and Hori
And merry Christmas to you and yours 😝😂
what's your stuffing recipe please! I have to try it!?? ps love you video! best one I've seen
It’s the normal bread crumbs mixed herbs diced onions salt melted butter and an egg if you want to bind it. And thank you 😊
your dog looks identical to my dads half papillion half terrier. great dogs they are with great nature. i want to encourage you to get his teeth looked at and cleaned evry year because our poor boy ended up needing most teeth pulled all at once because we never thought of it. poor boy must have been in pain too. hope this helps.
He seems quite healthy I will tell Rangi as he is her dog 🐕 and he is definitely a terrier always barking at things that are not there 😝😝😝 and thank you
Praise Jesus mate!
Great job brother ☝️
Amen and yummy yums 😝😝😝
a bit of work there we'd wrap all foods and cook .. pull up baskets open foils and help ya selves ..love what yous do ...
Thank you and you are welcome 😝😝😝
I normally dig my pit the night b4 and use native and black wattle for burning and only use pallets inbetween the gaps also dig a second pit for the ash one match and we’r burning 5/6 hours total start to finish depending on how many people I am feeding on average 50/60 people
Good stuff, we did ours a few days early because it was just me and mum doing it all just to lighten the load 😝😝😝
