To me it seems like the older generation are the ones who hate snowboarding, but the younger generation who have grown up always sharing the mountain with snowboarders have no issue what so ever.
Joe Bailey agreed but as a young skier myself I don't even think about it as "sharing" the mountain I just see it as the same concept through a different method
George W Bush Skiers share the mountain with other skiers, Snowboarders with other snowboarders. Its not a term of segregation, has nothing to do with methods being different. Two people driving Nissan GTR's on the same road are sharing the road, thas just fact. Whether you like to think about it that way or not, you DO share the mountain with all your fellow snow sport participants.
KillingAuraPvP I never said that you did... Nor did I say that all snowboarders MUST hate all skiers and vice-versa. In fact I didn't even suggest that. I simply implied that of the skiers who hate snowboarders, most seem to be of an older generation. Im kind of surprised I have to even explain this..
I am a skiier, but I love boarders, and I love what snowboarding has done for skiing. 20 years ago, parallel skis were the only way of skiing, then boards came along with their curved edges and introduced skiiers to carving, they came with their wide bases and introduced skiiers to powder, they came with their twin-tips and introduced skiiers to riding switch, freestyle and so much more. If it wasn't for snowboards, skiing wouldn't be the sport it is today.
@@christopherdorner925 I haven’t really seen anyone boot pack or skin Alta outside of preseason. If you are going to AT might as well go out of bounds.
***** Well I think it's a bit of a stretch to compare them with racists of the early 1800. There are plenty of non white skiers who hate boarders also. My point was that they don't truly believe all of their own words based on the fact that unless Alta is the only place they've ever skied that all snowboarders they've ever encountered behave in the way they are describing. Not to mention the fact that there are plenty of aggro skiers out there.
I’m a skiier, and I can confirm that there are just as many accidents on skies as boards. I love sharing the moutian with my boarding friends. It’s all about good times man.
+Johannes Alvarez yeah I could care less it was just a joke .. Wow I just don't understand how people are so rude over the Internet .. Did I say anything rude to you ? No I didn't
The resort will go under there not enough borders and most snowboarders are just so rude on my mountain let me stop on in the middle of a line. They also fuck up my snow.
Yep, like half your representation here looks like bitchy Santa or a Karen. Cant exactly be rocket science or a triathlon if a man with a pot belly does it
I am a snowboarder. I have no problems with a skiers only mountain, but I have a big problem that there's one on public property. The snowboarders' tax money also pays for that mountain to be open, and to turn them away is definitely discrimination and should not be allowed.
I'm a skier, have been all my life, have no real interest in trying snowboarding but still think this policy is beyond dumb. Will probably never ski Alta until they change since half my friends snowboard and therefore they wouldn't be allowed to ride with me.
Matt Street I have been too close to comfort to hitting a skiier. I was riding the park and hit the first big jump and when I left the lip did I see a little guy standing in the middle of the landing just were I was about to land. Fortunately did I land on the back of his skiis and completely broke off the back part of his right binding with me left toe. It left him tumbling and me sliding on me toe side briefly to regain control and ride to the top of the next landing to notify the others not to drop in. And no one got hurt in this incident
Ethan Martin it happends. the thing and probably the reason i haven't been hit by a snowboarder is that all the tourists ride skiis and they only do it for a week every year and do not get the time to get good at what they're dooing. whilst on the other hand is almost every snowboarder someone that lives in the area and rides many times every week. if there were more snowboard tourists would there be more collisions caused by snowboarders. this is in one skii resourt in sweden and it is not representative for anything but this skii resourt
Those skiers say things like "they can't stop" or "they go too fast" - the only times I have been taken out when riding the slope (I snowboard) is from a skier. Getting off the lift and a skier jams their pole into the ground too early in front of my board. A skier out of control on a green running slamming into me. A skier cutting me off by suddenly turning and not looking uphill. A skier in the lift line swinging their poles around with no regard for anyone around them and hitting me in the face. A skier turning too soon coming off the lift and crossing his skis with my board. In the lift line, skiers continually ram their skis into the back of my board or over the top of my deck - while most snowboarders I've seen give plenty of room. I'm not saying that snowboarders can't be assholes - anyone can be an asshole. But in my experience, I have had way more issues with skiers and with them being a hazard on the mountain. It might help if they pair skiers and snowboarders on the lift separately, but that might extend load times. But otherwise, I've seen MORE skiers flying down the mountain, out of control, suddenly turning without looking, have no awareness of the space around them. We share the mountain, we need to be mindful of each other.
I've been snowboarding 20 years and my experience has been the exact same. Skiiers seem to lack any sense of their surroundings, be it on the slopes or on the lift line. Where I ride there are skiiers and snowboarders in equal numbers. I've been cut off and practically ran off the slope by skiiers more times than I can count, zero times by snowboarders. I think it's funny that skiiers would complain that snowboarders go too fast, since generally speaking snowboarding is slower than skiing. When one is driving and goes to turn or change lanes, they can use the directional signal. Snowboarding body language is like this. It telegraphs quite broadly and obviously which direction the snowboarder is headed in. Beginner skiiers body language telegraphs virtually nothing. They pizza everwhere stiff as a board and yet they can somehow turn on a dime and worst of all randomly decide to cut straight across a slope all the way to the treeline out of nowhere, with no real warning, and no ability to look uphill. Snowboarders can stop pretty quick but like everything they need to learn how much space they need to stop and ride accordingly.
That's the exact opposite for me. I only get hit by snowboarders. I like snowboarding, and it's not like I hate them. It seems like bullshit that they discriminate. Snowboarders should make a mountain for themselves.
its funny cuz i snowboard, but i dont hit people, they cut me off by like a foot and then slow down so i have no time to dodge them. u know i have collisions but they r never my fault, honestly skiers make lame excuses. Anyways all the people saying its been this way forever change is bad blah blah blah, ever heard of history, womens rights, the feudal system.... cuz u know its not like they ever changed. (sarcasim obviously).
thats because snowboarders have their board going sideways on the lift annoyingly hanging and are clumsy when dismounting the lift, while its easy for skiers. i ski and mainly shred with snowboarders
Hear, hear. The problem isn't skiers or boarders, it's people. If everyone took the time to learn proper control and progress within their abilities there would be far fewer incidents. Nearly every issue/collision I've seen or experienced has been a result of someone's failure to adhere to Mountain Etiquette or trying to exceed their abilities. I'm a boarder and I've called out other boarders for behaving like assholes. Just freaking treat people with respect and more often than not it'll be returned regardless of your differences (unless they're just a closed-minded jerk in which case you know where you stand...right in the middle of their chest after you punch them in the face).
I've got respect for the guy at 4:58, usually don't see old skiers that don't mind snowboarders and actually tell the truth and say they aren't a problem
For a month straight every Saturday you should get a huge group of snowboarders to fill the entire parking lot, and then legally hike for their runs. It would be like the civil right bus boycott.
Hey, so if you actually want to try that then don't do it like that. It is against the rules to go uphill during their hours of operation and they will kick you off. Just go to snowbird and ski the ten feet into Alta. Way easier and way more likely to work.
Sliding down a hill with frozen water on it with two sticks on your feet is good, yet sliding down a hill with frozen water on it with only one stick on your feet is somehow bad?
@@NotCondorTheBird not true. A competent snowboarder carves and leaves a pencil line in the snow. A bad snowboarder flattening snow is same as a bad skier making pizzas flattening snow same way.... I take it you ski?
As someone who grew up recently with a small Midwest local ski area, I had never seen anyone with these kinds of negative stereotypes about snowboarders. I’ve always seen them as 2 sides of the same sport, there wasn’t anything except personal preference separating them. It wasn’t until I learned some snowboarding history that I realized many people hated snowboarders just a few decades ago, and it’s even crazier to see it happening so recently! Most of these people seem to realize they’re heavily biased, they’re just not fully admitting to themselves that it’s only stereotypes against snowboarders.
Same. Holly, Pine Knob and Alpine are my spots and I've only heard one skiier say negative things about boarders to me, but he ended it with "you know what, though? Snowboarding saved the industry." Guy ended up being pretty cool
With all due respect it's because you're in the midwest and you're probably nice and your on a basically flat surface ! Listen to what these guys are saying they're not just being angry jerks for no reason... not all of them are problems or lame but a good 80% are
@@marcusfieldfield4069 how can you speak so confidently about 80% of all snowboarders? That’s just stereotyping right there. Do you know how many people 80% of snowboarders covers, and you’re painting those 80% as “problems”? Also, as much as I love the nice-Midwesterner jokes, I don’t think it’s as true as many people think. I think the only reason there’s no fighting between skiers and snowboarders is because they let snowboarders on the ski hills a long time ago, and the skiers (eventually) had an open mind about it. It’s become a choice of whichever version of the sport feels more fun to you; there’s nothing sinister about choosing to snowboard
@@brandonm1708 I came up with the 80% number from my experience of skiing since I was 8 years old ; 30- 60 days a year Lake Tahoe / Mammoth Mountain California... no Midwestern Resort steepness "jokes" just facts... actually Midwestern people and people from the South are my favorite people... 95% I have met are always interesting friendly... also 1 of my best snow "friends" is a snowboarder and he is amazingly good...he also still skis sometimes if it's super icy.. 4 sharp edges are better than two... he rips on lame snowboarders ALL THE TIME when they do stupid s*** it's nothing personal ...half the time they DONT KNOW what they're even doing wrong SO he schools them ; most actually listen especially if they see how good he boards... I have NO problem with " good " snowboarders and yes they are generally older... I'm assuming you're one of them.... there is a REASON all those " old " Alta skiers we're saying what they we're saying and believe me they ( and me ) rip on skiers also ! NO DISCRIMINATING
@@marcusfieldfield4069 do you think your snowboarder friend shouldn’t be allowed at Alta because some other snowboarders are bad? It’s not in question that there are bad snowboarders out there, just as there’s bad skiers. I only have a problem with it singling out snowboarders as any different. I’m neither old nor a snowboarder, I’m merely a reasonably experienced skier. But I don’t see any difference between the kinds of people skiers and snowboarders are, we just all like to have fun in the snow
This video makes all skiers look bad, but it's mostly the old guys that don't like snowboarders. I ski and I have no problem with snowboarders. In fact, lots of my friends snowboard and it makes the experience a lot better because we can do a ton of different gnarly tricks and encourage each other to try new things. It makes hitting spots a whole lot cooler since we all can approach the spot from our different views and can do a wider variety of things! It's all just about having a good time and doing something that makes you happy, not about whether you're on a snowboard or skis.
Exactly. Why can old people, and young snowboarders just live in harmony? All of my friends are a mix of snowboarders, and Skiers, and it is a blast with everyone doing their own thing.
I am a certified Alpine, Telemark, and Snowboard Instructor. I do not think any mountain that is on Forest Service land should be allowed to discriminate against snowboarders. I have seen as many incidents cause by both skiers and snowboarders. When I was improving my skills on a board, and moving to black runs I was hit by a skier (observed by another instructor who was helping me with my skills), the skier who hit me kept on trying to blame me. I believe that skiers and snowboarders can live together. Remember Respect gets Respect.
@@briankelly6113right. It sits on public land. Duh. That's a significant connection and there have been lawsuits seeking to open Alta to all in part because of this. There is another in the works now that's being bankrolled by an organization with much, much deeper pockets and whose name rhymes with Dead Dull. They are taking a different approach using case law. Win or lose, I'm just glad to see Alta's owners spending money to defend themselves when everyone knows the end is in sight. If you were born after 1990, you'll board at Alta in your lifetime. Guaranteed
How come i have only been hit by skiers, but all the skiers are like "nah its all the boarders that hit people. Literally i was standing still and got hit by a skier.... 😂
I've been hit by 2 skiers and 2 boarder( one was my buddy), none were major, it happens and doesn't really have to do with how the get down the mountain so much as how good they are at doing it.
Man this is such a strong analogy for racism, xenophobia, and pretty much all other forms of discrimination. "they shouldn't mix" "they're dangerous" "they're rude" It's wild.

Wow! Since it's inception, Skiing has been associated with the rich and privileged. Time's have changed, and most snowsports are a lot more accessible to people from all walks of life, but this video shows how the attitude of the "privileged" Skier is still alive and well. I've been taken out by both skier and snowboarder alike, so the idea that Snowboarders alone are dangerous and reckless is ridiculous. Like others have mentioned, a lot of skiers tend to take up the whole hill, zig-zagging across the slope like a minesweeper (without checking if they're cutting off someone else's line), and I've lost count of the amount of times I've been jabbed by carelessly wielded ski poles (both in queues and on runs). Does this mean I hate skiers? Of course not. There are idiots in all sports. People with no situational awareness etc. It just seems that some Skiers have a real chip on their shoulder that they have to share "their" slopes with the unwashed masses.
9:06 "Snowboarders from all over the world, if they heard ALTA allowed snowboarders, would FLOCK"... Only reason I'd "flock" to ALTA would be to watch the elitists get all red-faced with impotent anger at the *gasp* equality of allowing everyone to use PUBLIC LAND. I didn't hear a lot of logic from the skiers, just opinions based on limited data or brilliantly worded retorts like "Never has been, never will be" or "stay the hell off this mountain". You people are truly ambassadors of your sport. Well done.
Space Invader Didn't you just say that you don't think it has awesome terrain? Also, when land is rented out to someone they then get to decide who to allow on it. Alta rents the land so they are legally allowed to deny whomever they want.
Connor Boschert Never said anything about the terrain sucking so have no idea where you got that. What I said was the only reason I'd go is to aggravate jerks like those shown in the video; there's no reason for me to travel there with plenty other resorts much closer. And as for Alta legally restricting use...if they lease the land from the government and no federal dollars (i.e. our tax dollars) are used for any maintenance, patrolling, rescue, etc. of or on any portion of that land, then the argument could be made they can restrict whomever they want. However, if any federal money flows to Alta in the form of subsidies or tax breaks/incentives, then the FEDS make the decision whether snowboarders can be restricted and if so, what legitimate reason they're using to support that decision. The government saying "Alta made the decision and we didn't" is just a cowardly cop-out because if they have the ABILITY to make the decision and don't, that's de facto discrimination. Discrimination, for the most part, based on ignorance. That's really what irritates me about it.
I love how they say "snowboarders hit everyone". I've been hit more times by skiers than I have by snowboarders. Also I like how you say we're "just a bunch of teenage assholes that wear nose rings and are stupid idiots". I go fairly slow on the mountain and try to keep in control, have never hit anyone before, have no piercings, and I have a 4.0 GPA with a Presidential Scholarship. I tried skiing when I was little, I just prefer snowboarding.
You’re right!!! This 45+ female started snowboarding five years ago, has no piercings, no tattoos, spent the first two seasons yelling at skiers because they were so ignorant and rude and scary on the slopes. No regard for anybody but themselves. The better the skier, the scarier they were.
In my own personal experiences, older skiers 45+ tend to be the ones that escalate situations into verbal arguments and even fights. Most young skiers and boarders are chill with each other. I’ve heard many old skiers complaining about boarders but I’ve never heard an old boarder complain about any one.
keep those skiiers at Alta. All those people he talked are the ones that blame everything on snowboarders. old ass people traversing the entire run on evert turn.
Hey. I am just seeing this years late. I ski LCC and your video went almost exactly as I would have thought. Really enjoyed it. You exposed the "mind" set of the Alta skier. You are welcome next door at Snowbird. Dont know where you are going to be making turns this winter, but hope they are soft and sweet. Powder 2024!
Is skiing V snowboarding an american thing? I live in new zealand and enjoy both. They do realize that it's just different equipment and not like, a race thing, right?
+Liarra “Heart” Sniffles probably. I don't know about outside the US, but last I heard 3 resorts in the US didn't allow snowboarders, and two were in Utah. I heard a rumor that the third started allowing them, but that might have been drivel. Either way, 2/3 to all of the resorts that don't allow snowboarding are in Utah (Deer Valley and Alta). About the only justification I've heard that makes sense is that it's tradition, which in the case of Alta is true in fact, and true in spirit. The thing no one talks about that I think is the real reason behind the no-snowboard policy is that they don't need to. Both resorts do well off skiers alone. Allowing another class of snow-sports would increase the number of visitors. For DV that is bad because they cap the hill, so they'd have to turn more people away which hurts their image as one of the (if not the) top destination ski resort in the lower 48. Alta doesn't cap the mountain, but no one there that I've ever talked to wants to see more crowds. Personally I think that's why they remain sans-board.
First of all, I'm a skier, skate boarder, and a surfer. Taos used to restrict snowboarding only because the terrain was too narrow. The first day they opened it up the boarders they were eating it hard, but they've assimilated nicely. As far as culture goes, there are just as many dirt bag ass hole skiers as there are dirt bag ass hole boarders. And these skiers know that if there was a "snowboarders only" resort they'd throw a fit!!
Let's pick the best mountain in the world with the best snow and everything and make itt snowboarders only and use their argument of " if you don't like it learn to ski" and see what they think about it.
I personally don't care either way, that being said the snowboarder's arguments aren't sound. The Fourteenth Amendment prevents discrimination based on a person's race, sex, religion, age, physical limitation, national origin, and in some instances sexual orientation; the 14th mentions nothing about sports or pass times. Resorts like Alta are on public land, however they usually have land-lease agreements allowing the resort to enforce their own rules of conduct. That being said just because it is public land doesn't imply you can do whatever you want on it. With the same logic of the guys in the video you could argue dirt bikes should be allowed in the Washington Mall in D.C. or we should be able to paint modern art on Half Dome.
Casey Klimock actually the permit issued to Alta by U.S. Forestry states "land covered by this permit shall remain open to the public for all lawful purposes". Snowboarding is a lawful activity. PRIVATE for profit business has no right to come up with rules that supersede federal laws/rules on PUBLIC land.
My brother and I got to snowbird right next door and hike up and drop into Alta on our last run. The look on peoples faces are totally fucking worth it! I mean what are they gonna do kick us off?! Ha!
lol lets make a mountain where only snowboarders are allowed…you say that we can't stop and we run into you, yet you bring your kids into our terrain park #bantheskiers
i somewhat agree with the stuff that 2:35 said, im both a skier and boarder, but its true that most boarders (that i see) that crash or fall or whatever dont check to see if the other party is ok, they just say get the fuck out of my way and go on boarding...
Been riding 24 years, been hit by skiers multiple times. Not once a snowboarder. Had to dodge skiers standing below a knuckle dozens of times a season. Been tangled up with skiers unloading the lift; and witnesed many other times. ( snowboarders fall, skiers take you with them, usually the older ones) i see both skiers and snowboarders being disrespectful...50/50. Skiers jam up the flats more than snowboarders. Skiers bump into your board all dayvlong in the lift line. Skiers make moguls and chop up powder just as fast as snowboarders with their quick s turns.
I don't see why snowboarders can't start their own mountain. I've never been hit by a skier or a snowboarder because I'm aware of my surroundings, but it's easy to hate a whole group of people.
I ride. Half my friends ride, the other half ski. Anyone who hates either skiers, or snowboarders I'd wager cannot ski or ride very well. As long as you can rip, I'd like to make turns with you.
really? that different? ok, tell me how many times you see a snowboard flying down the hill by it self with an idiot waving down the hill "ski on the loose"
If skiiers were kicked out of Snowbird or Brighton or anywhere they would lose their minds and do this same stuff. I board and ski. And generally when I'm skiing I do go to Alta cause it's a really nice resort. I wish I could board there, but lame ass people have to be in charge
Your comment was from a long time ago... most people that Ski and Snowboard are really good / advanced... one of my ski Bros also does both he is amazing.. what is your preference at this point ? I'm assuming you've tried the newer fat skis... on a big Pow day my friend goes with the board any kind of ice or hard condition he always goes with the skis
I'm a skier and I think that snowboarding should be allowed there. A few of my friends snowboard and the company is just losing money not letting more people go. So really it's the resort losing out here. Also I think it's funnier with snowboarders, it creates more unique options to be with people.
I’m a skier and find snowboarders to be helpful most of the time but then there is always a couple that hate skiers and that’s what ruins the fun. Stay positive. Live being grateful not wanting more.
It shames me as a skier that some of us act like that. I've never snowboarded a day in my like, nor will I ever, but it's definitely not cool what they're doing. #freealta
Everyone's saying people get to board everywhere except here so why do they care? They care because of the principle. People are prejudiced because they have such a set stereotype of every boarder. I really cant understand why people are so closed minded, I mean, especially the people that argue about the noise. If you want to consider yourself a good skier, you should know how to ski around boarders. Everyone knows they take wider turns, so just be aware of your surroundings. Just to clarify, I've only boarded one day in my life and I've been skiing 10, so I'm not trying to say skiers are bad. The one guy says, "thats how it always was and thats how it'll always be." So what? People used to own slaves, doesn't mean it has to stay like that.
Good point. “ it’s always been like that “is an old persons, saying, and very ignorant. It shows how hollow their head is, if they can’t even formulate an opinion.
Everyone should go out a hold a petition clipboard at some point in their life. It’s a real lesson in humanity and in my experience it comes back a bit like this across any issue. You find out some people are unsurprisingly rude, some are supportive, some people will sign anything without thinking about it, some people will disagree but engage with interesting discourse (even with points you didn’t consider), and then the best part is that some people are surprisingly compassionate to your issue when you, with your inherent bias, would think they would not be. Then you have to decide how you want to walk away from the experience - which group of interaction types becomes the prevailing one you take away from the experience?
What do you expect from a bunch of purists in Utah? They don't have the mental capacity to question religion so why would they would we expect them to be open to something as simple as snowboarding. It's the same sport, different equipment.
My 2 cents. The snow holds better at Alta than at Bird. The traverses are significantly nicer for skiers as well. I completely see why you guys want to board it. We should make a boards only mountain somewhere to balance it out. Groom more moguls, cater traverses for you guys, get liftlines shaped for y'all. Just for clarification, I ski AltaBird, have been hit by both and completely respect qualified boarders. Bad boards are terrible for snow, but so are snowplows.
It isn't "discrimination". The forest service is free to set the terms for use of the land. If you showed up with skis, they'd let you in, right? Therefore it isn't discrimination. There are public lands on the east coast for example, where hunting is allowed with shotguns only. You don't see hunters who want to use rifles claiming "discrimination". You either hunt with a shotgun or go somewhere else.
It's discrimination, it's just not discrimination against people. The vast majority of objects and activities are unprotected and can be discriminated against with near impunity.
Stalicone fishing, hunting, off road vehicles, recreational restrictions on public lands is set by the GOVERNMENT. Alta is US Forestry land and carries no restrictions against snowboarding. Permit issued to Alta states " land covered by this permit shall remain open to the public for all lawful purposes". Snow boarding is a lawful purpose. A for profit PRIVATE business has no right to write their own laws that supersede federal rules on PUBLIC land. Private land you write your own rules but not on public especially when it violates rules set forth in a lease permit.
KaliAndy2 And now - here is my reply... 1) Alta doesn't just run a ski resort by permit. They have a lease. A lessee is free to set the terms for the use of the property based on numerous reasons. They are the lawful tenant of the property and therefore free to set restrictions on the use of the property. Just like any business or someone who rents an apartment. For example: Having a wedding reception on the slopes would also be a "lawful activity" (after all, there is nothing illegal about a wedding reception) but Alta is perfectly free to restrict that activity, based on whatever they wish to base the restriction on; i.e., safety, intended use, insurance, liability...whatever. "Remain open to the public for all lawful purposes." does not mean those lawful activities cannot be restricted. Additional example: The resort closes at night, in which case ALL lawful activities are restricted. From the recent judgement on this very issue, the judge wrote; "A business, even a skiing business on Forest Service property, enjoys the right to manage its business pursuant to its preferred business model, even if others disagree," - I exactly agree with that assessment.
This whole fight between skiers and snowboarders is so old and lame... Notice how you don't see any skiers putting videos on RUclips? Skiers aren't butt hurt preteen punks. It's so pathetic reading all the comments bashing skiers. They make their own resort and the snowboarders cry because they won't let them in. How about instead of sitting in the parking lot, you just go to a different mountain? Or start your own snowboarders only resort. You can all get high and do 720 corks while chugging energy drinks
na bru, I ski and all these stereotypes about snow borders are fucking dumb. most borders are in control and respectful. you get some ass hole who cuts you off on a board or takes you out, and that's peoples general conception of boarders. alta is just full of dumb old farts who are still living in the 60's before snowboarding was invented. they refuse to evolve and get with the times.
jack giroux I agree, but this video completely misrepresents skiers as a whole. I have no issue with snowboarders until they start acting like everyone else is the scum of the mountain. Read the comments - all the punk snowboarders (including the idiots that made this video) trash skiers because of a handful of old morons making stupid comments. I can go into Wal-Mart and only film a certain race of people. Then make a video with only the stupid responses and title it "All ______ people are dumb morons that shop at Wal-Mart" I'm just sick of the war that old skiers and young punk snowboarders have had ever since the sports started. Those old skier people will hopefully eventually die out; hopefully so will the young punk snowboarding attitude.
It's not about sitting in a parking lot and being annoying. They're trying to get a point across that it isn't cool to ban people just because they use one shhhhtick, opposed to two.
I don't get ski vs board war....I ski and skiers/boarders cut me off. Pretty sure I cut them off too. No need for fight, acknowledge your mistake and move on.
I laugh they wouldn't have half the technology in their skis if it weren't for the snowboard industry. they should turn in those snowboard inspired and ripped off tech skis and go back to heavy, wood core ,wood lam, straight edged , no tail lip crap skis, go poke their eyes out with those stupid poles. I know Im tired of getting poked with those things in every chair lift line. thumbs up to those who have at least dropped the poles.
"I'm terrified of snowboarders" As a beginner snowboarder, I could say the same when some reckless skiers fly right past me, even on baby slopes.... I was having a hard time hearing the rest because of your microphone, but what I mostly heard are personal bad experiences and stereotypes. "Teenage assholes, people with piercings"... Well EXCUUSE ME!
Bad analogy, the Palestine conflict is caused by Zionist takeover of Palestine, when the UN wouldn't give the Zionists more than 50% of the nation, they brought out the guns to push the people out of their own country. The Ski Snowboard conflict is caused by Skiers thinking they're better than everyone else because they use Poles. Now that there's only a tiny amount of Mountains still run by stuck up old rich folks, all the idiots who still hold this mindset flock to the same few places, making these people easy to find and compile into a video such as this one.
Jack Carlos Damn this guy's butthurt. Did I hit a nerve? You've got no reason to be lumped in with the group of Skiers I'm talking about unless you are in fact some 60 year old nutjob who thinks you're better because you use 2 bits of wood.
BemaniAK That's fine if you're only hating on the old pricks that still live in the 70's. But you (and many others) make blanket comments towards ALL skiers, which is just as bad as the old fools in this video.
"teenage assholes, out of control" Right. Because every person who straps up a snowboard finds himself between the ages of 13-19. Absolutely outrageous. "I'm prejudice against teenage males". I think that's what it comes down to. "I don't like the 'sorry dude'" are you joking? You're gonna justify discrimination by a slang word?
like I am agreeing with you but commenting as if I was talking to the lady thats discriminating cuz of a slang word, like we dont need to say sorry at all, we could be dicks and cuss at them but no instead we apologize and use our slang haha
yeah exactly lol they just need to get over themselves I think, and I am not trying to bash on skiers in general cuz not all skiers are like that but to the ones that are... have some mountain respect

Funny video! took some balls to sit there for what looked like two days and do that. I'm a skier of 41 years who snowboarded, and tried every mode for going down the hill from ski bikes to kayaks. The real issue here is that this is designated as a single use site by the U.S. Forrest service. Like a Wilderness area that doesn't allow mountain bikes or any mechanized form of transportation, or hiking trails that don't allow motorcycles, or bike paths that don't allow cars...or like one guy commented...the guy that wanted to wait tables at Hooters...that was funny! Single use sites allow for different experiences on our government lands. I fully support a Snowboard area and it seems strange that one doesn't exist. It would be a great experience to be at a mountain that only has snowboards. Totally different vibe. Put your effort into getting that done. Hell, do it at Brighton or Solitude and let Utah duke it out. The door is always open in Colorado!
The best part of this video 3:27....Pabst baby...yyeeaahhoooo...good on you guys for taking time out and putting up with skiers shit for this healthy cause
Joe Bailey true my dad and his friend are always trash talking snowboards lol
Joe Bailey I'm a skier and a snowboarder... I don't hate myself...
If it wasn't for snowboards, skiing wouldn't be the sport it is today.
hell yes man
WTF? Thats ridiculous logic
I love at all, but I’m sorry borders did not teach skiers about carving hilarious. Also, new school skiing came about on its own.
This is crazy talk but I have no issues with boarders.
Boarding has definitely helped ski progression
Someone needs to roll up with a split board, then connect the skiis at the top.
@JDRoy25 merica
That's what I was thinking
@JDRoy25 I would assume its public land though as the guys were saying. they just run the lifts.

+Da Pandurr I think it's safe to say that most of these people do not actually believe their own words.
Chris Thomas, you missed the point. It's an analogy, he wasn't saying they're necessarily racist, just that it's the same type of mentality.
I’m a skiier, and I can confirm that there are just as many accidents on skies as boards. I love sharing the moutian with my boarding friends. It’s all about good times man.

Will probably never ski Alta until they change since half my friends snowboard and therefore they wouldn't be allowed to ride with me.
i personally have never been hit by a snowboarder but i have been hit by skiiers a couple of times in my 3 full wintes of riding (over 200 full days)
Same here. I've been hit by skiers twice and not yet by a snowboarder.
What the hell was he doing in the landing?
I actually got hit by a snowboarder last season XD
Ethan Martin it happends.
the thing and probably the reason i haven't been hit by a snowboarder is that all the tourists ride skiis and they only do it for a week every year and do not get the time to get good at what they're dooing.
whilst on the other hand is almost every snowboarder someone that lives in the area and rides many times every week.
if there were more snowboard tourists would there be more collisions caused by snowboarders.
this is in one skii resourt in sweden and it is not representative for anything but this skii resourt
"This country was based on well.... ummmmm.... discrimination, and punching down the little guy."
The logic of ALTA resort.
That guy is 100% definitely racist

The only connection to the Forest Service is that Alta is on leased USFS land, the resort is privately owned.

Well done.

Spencer Barlett Dude, so you're a skier? Then sign the damn petition so we boarders can see some of that awesome lift-accessed terrain!
Space Invader
Didn't you just say that you don't think it has awesome terrain?
Alta does not ban a single person from using their slopes, if you want to go there, try something different and learn to ski.

Is skiing V snowboarding an american thing? I live in new zealand and enjoy both.
They do realize that it's just different equipment and not like, a race thing, right?
Nah. It's pretty much dumb ass shit 3 year old grown men do. And here in Utah they make it worse because of Alta. It's ridiculous.
No it's just a Utah thing. What a backward state.
No because people here are immature and people hate new things. They're afraid of change so they're discriminitive about it.

"Snowboarders are so rude."
This should be everyone's mountain.
That's so true !
Also, do none of these stuck up skiers know that snowboarding was invented by Tom Sims, a SKIER!!?
Bruce Courtney Actually man it was Sherman Poppin
I personally don't care either way, that being said the snowboarder's arguments aren't sound. The Fourteenth Amendment prevents discrimination based on a person's race, sex, religion, age, physical limitation, national origin, and in some instances sexual orientation; the 14th mentions nothing about sports or pass times. Resorts like Alta are on public land, however they usually have land-lease agreements allowing the resort to enforce their own rules of conduct. That being said just because it is public land doesn't imply you can do whatever you want on it. With the same logic of the guys in the video you could argue dirt bikes should be allowed in the Washington Mall in D.C. or we should be able to paint modern art on Half Dome.
i snowboard. you are totally right is not discrimination.
We need a snowboarder only mountain
My brother and I got to snowbird right next door and hike up and drop into Alta on our last run. The look on peoples faces are totally fucking worth it! I mean what are they gonna do kick us off?! Ha!
This is actually really common, and you don't even have to hike into Alta if you take the Snowbird tram you can literally just ride into Alta.
lol lets make a mountain where only snowboarders are allowed…you say that we can't stop and we run into you, yet you bring your kids into our terrain park #bantheskiers
lol its like that diseny move cloud 19 or someting
"our terrain park" skiers can rock the park just as well as boarders
The Victator totally true just saying i hate when skiers bring there kids in the terrain park
The Victator I second Matt's comment. It's just the kids that annoy us. Some of my closest and oldest friends ski are unreal in the park.
The stereotypes aren't even true
i somewhat agree with the stuff that 2:35 said, im both a skier and boarder, but its true that most boarders (that i see) that crash or fall or whatever dont check to see if the other party is ok, they just say get the fuck out of my way and go on boarding...
Cept nobody who snowboards callings riding boarding 😎 *and that’s a fact*
This is fascinating ... these people are genuinely fascinating. It's like observing a primitive alien culture.
Skiers make moguls and chop up powder just as fast as snowboarders with their quick s turns.
at 4:56 ty for someone speaking logical sense and has not been hypnotized into thinking that snowboarders are the worst.
these people have the same mindset that caused segregation.
Jackson McKagan
Exactly!
@@zachbrown7747 you have nothing to say in rebuttal lmao. You must ski
Bull
I don't see why snowboarders can't start their own mountain. I've never been hit by a skier or a snowboarder because I'm aware of my surroundings, but it's easy to hate a whole group of people.
themcbobgorge That's the problem. People always generalize whole groups of people based off of one or two bad experiences with people from that group.
themcbobgorge you can't make a great mountain lol
there are plenty of mountains that can be turned into resorts
“Those assholes! The NOISE! This country was BUILT on Discrimination!!” Omg you guys nailed it.
Sjw
I hope things never change 💯
funny how i see this two days before buying my first snowboard. ive been skiing all my life but i just needed a snowboar its just so much fun
If you buy some Modern fat skis and put them next to each other it's pretty much the same amount of surface area as a snowboard😂 just saying
This is one of those stereotypes that's true. Skiers are way more uptight than snowboarders.
Do you guys sell those sweatshirts "alta snowboard team" I would love to buy one
Now that is funny!!!
Awesome, thanks! Thats a sweet website too, love the background of the mountain out to get the shredders
***** It makes me laugh, Snowboard Alta! OR Ride Alta!!
Yeah, its funny how mad those skiers get, what scumbags, not all of them but some
I ride. Half my friends ride, the other half ski. Anyone who hates either skiers, or snowboarders I'd wager cannot ski or ride very well. As long as you can rip, I'd like to make turns with you.
Interesting to see what skiers think of snowboarders because we don’t think of skiers at all 🤣
I do take all the powder for myself though 🤣
8 years later we are still in the same spot
Starting petition for cars on bike paths...
really? that different? ok, tell me how many times you see a snowboard flying down the hill by it self with an idiot waving down the hill "ski on the loose"
2:40 they can't stop and don't look around... Every skier kid at my hill
#freealta
extreme gnar at 5:54 but seriously most of the people on this video make me ashamed to call myself a skier i mean how can people hate so much like wow
Same
Everyone's saying people get to board everywhere except here so why do they care?
***** Who's to say I'm not?
Good point. “ it’s always been like that “is an old persons, saying, and very ignorant. It shows how hollow their head is, if they can’t even formulate an opinion.
“Skiing is an elite sport” those S turns are looking sick man 🤙💯
Everyone should go out a hold a petition clipboard at some point in their life.
Why does it seem like every skier is either old or gay?
Haha thats funny did you know that most snowboarders like to suck each others pps
They are at alta
***** snowboard at Alta but you can't use the ski lifts those are private
Jonny Thatcher We tried they don't let us hike.
when your aloud to snowboard
What do you expect from a bunch of purists in Utah? They don't have the mental capacity to question religion so why would they would we expect them to be open to something as simple as snowboarding. It's the same sport, different equipment.
Thats a little extreme lol
alta also should be called "the racist mountain."
yeah cuz skiing is a race
lol nvm
semipro6600 can I just ask how skiing is more privileged than snowboarding
U don't get discriminated to the point that you cant ski on a mountain lol cmon
snowboarder's lives matter!
I’m a skier, but what would be cool is if they made another mountain all only for snowboarders! Equal and dope!
KaliAndy2
Now that is a REAL and cogent argument. You have my respect. I need to do some research to offer a reply.
KaliAndy2
And now - here is my reply...
KaliAndy2 You can't snowmobile there, so why should you get to complain about snowboarding? You're an idiot.
Then make a video with only the stupid responses and title it "All ______ people are dumb morons that shop at Wal-Mart"
I'm just sick of the war that old skiers and young punk snowboarders have had ever since the sports started. Those old skier people will hopefully eventually die out; hopefully so will the young punk snowboarding attitude.
Cork 720*
It's not about sitting in a parking lot and being annoying. They're trying to get a point across that it isn't cool to ban people just because they use one shhhhtick, opposed to two.
I ski and snowboard and we don't just get high and do "cork 720". And after you said how annoying bashing skiers is you just go and bash snowboarders.
I don't get ski vs board war....I ski and skiers/boarders cut me off. Pretty sure I cut them off too. No need for fight, acknowledge your mistake and move on.
If there were only a snowboarding-only mountain...i guess these skiers would be thrilled.
skiers vs. snowboarders aside
alta feels like an exclusive pompous environment that even if i was still a skier i would never pay to go there.
+neverputon Id liked to come out and hike that hill all day see what they can do about that.
+neverputon You can snow skate w/o poles
"I'm terrified of snowboarders" As a beginner snowboarder, I could say the same when some reckless skiers fly right past me, even on baby slopes....
I was having a hard time hearing the rest because of your microphone, but what I mostly heard are personal bad experiences and stereotypes. "Teenage assholes, people with piercings"... Well EXCUUSE ME!
They need to get johnny tsunami to save this place haha
"Should we allow cars on bike paths?" might have been the most sound argument of this video, lol
why isn't there a only snowboard places?
Did snowboarders and skiers become like israel vs palestine out of nowhere? Or did I just live under a rock?
Bad analogy, the Palestine conflict is caused by Zionist takeover of Palestine, when the UN wouldn't give the Zionists more than 50% of the nation, they brought out the guns to push the people out of their own country.
The Ski Snowboard conflict is caused by Skiers thinking they're better than everyone else because they use Poles.
Now that there's only a tiny amount of Mountains still run by stuck up old rich folks, all the idiots who still hold this mindset flock to the same few places, making these people easy to find and compile into a video such as this one.
BemaniAK Lol who cares
ost sweinen Skiers
Jack Carlos
Damn this guy's butthurt.
"teenage assholes, out of control"
Right. Because every person who straps up a snowboard finds himself between the ages of 13-19. Absolutely outrageous.
"I'm prejudice against teenage males". I think that's what it comes down to.
"I don't like the 'sorry dude'" are you joking? You're gonna justify discrimination by a slang word?
at least they are apologizing
I suppose
like I am agreeing with you but commenting as if I was talking to the lady thats discriminating cuz of a slang word, like we dont need to say sorry at all, we could be dicks and cuss at them but no instead we apologize and use our slang haha
Bryce Tschumper and yet our apology angers them
yeah exactly lol they just need to get over themselves I think, and I am not trying to bash on skiers in general cuz not all skiers are like that but to the ones that are... have some mountain respect
I am a skier and i have nothing againts showboarders i actualy think its kinda cool they defenetly dont deserve all the shit they are getting i think some skier are a hundret time worse then most snowboarders and shoud not be alowed to ski
I like you
Thankyou! Finally a smart skiier!
This ski Is nice to snowboarders I respect people like you, we need more skiers like you
+Lowekilla I don't see why these two groups bicker like this, how about rollerbladers and rollerskaters? Do they do the same??
its deferent
It's all old people. Only old people who can't make room for the younger generation
Damn just come to Canada
they should make a place just for snowboarders
The best part of this video 3:27....Pabst baby...yyeeaahhoooo...good on you guys for taking time out and putting up with skiers shit for this healthy cause
guy skiing wit giant pink scarf "its cool they just have skiing"
gonna be honest. it’s so sad how nasty some skiers are toward snowboarders. i am a skier myself, but respect snowboarders 100%. just sad.
