Love your Z3 passion, videos and sense of humor. I never thought of using a dipstick filter, is that oem or one of Billy's designs? Instead of using a metal pick to remove the O-rings I always use a toothpick. Plastic is tougher than the toothpick is my theory...
Jimmy- thanks for the kind words! That's Billy's! I'll try that next time; I haven't scratched the plastic yet, but knowing me I will. I have, however, injected used oil into my finger with the damned pick multiple times.
Mark, thank you for all your Z3 videos, they are very instructional and easy to follow. I own a 2000 Z3-6cyl automatic for over 20 years and your videos have helped me do some needed DIY repairs/fixes. I am about to change the engine oil by myself for the first time and I was watching this video so I could learn to do it the right way. However, I am not sure if my eyes were deceiving me or not, but I noticed that to remove the oil pan drain plug you turn it the opposite way (to the right) to loosen it and to the left to tighten it. Is that correct? I want to make sure I do not strip the threads on the oil pan drain hole or plug. Thank again for all the help.
Ill have to watch it again later but im pretty sure its righty tighty lefty loosey (standard). I havent removed it since that video, as i use a vacuum pump now and pull oil from the dipstick tube.
Drain plug washer replacement. As I remember, I kept the old one in and just double checked for leaks. Which you'd do regardless of using the old or new one.
do you feel confident you drained all the oil out of the crankcase with the car on an angle while on the rhino ramps? i put my car on the ramps to loosen the drain plug then drove it off the ramps so it would be level while the old oil drained. it was a pain :) . i also was disturbed to find a fair amount of metal flakes in the oil :(. i don't see any on the dipstick but the drain pan had a bunch similar to metal flake in a paint job.
Gil, actually, less confident, now that you mention it. Although the new oil is still very clean, which would lead me to believe there is not much old oil mixed in. I ran a magnet through mine to see if I had metal shavings,; didn't really come out with anything significant. Sorry I didn't show that in the video, it was running a little long already.
That spill was so funny but I was suffering through it 😂 until the end
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Mark, great sense of humor, very enjoyable...................
Thanks John! As always, appreciate your time and attention!

Good episode 👍😊
Thank you! It was fun to make!
Do i need to pour oil in with the new filter at all?
No, I never have.
hi im greg's friend love ur videos man
Thank you! Appreciate your time!
So, exactly how much oil did yours take then?
About 5 and a half quarts. Very convenient as I now buy them in 5 quart bottles 🙂
@@MomentofZed That's what I have, a 5 qt. Bottle. Was just wondering if I needed to buy an extra qt. from now on...thx!
@@Gambit22003 my pleasure!

It does look in the video like im turning in reverse. I may have filmed in selfie mode? No other source shows reverse.
The thing that’s funny is I’m pretty sure oil is used instead of syrup in food commercials 😂
Oh! You forgot to mention the oil life gauge, does that reset on it's own, or???
Doesn't reset on its own.
@@MomentofZed So I'm guessing it will need to be done through an OBD port?
@@Gambit22003 i havent done it on mine, but take a look:

what is the extra crush washer that comes with the O ring kit?

Thank you so much for the quick reply. It's oil filter housing gasket day!
@@DudeTalk good luck!
Turns out my car didn't even have a crush washer at all. Lolz

@@4hockeyskate Helluva guess! And it was delicious!
Oof. The bit went too long.
I was young! I needed the money!
