Your videos are well done. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. They are very helpful for those of us needing encouragement and information to do these services ourselves.
Having watched this video, I have just changed the gearbox oil on my 2000 Z3 2.8 using the Redline D4 ATF oil that you recommended. Much smoother changes now. Thanks for the advice.
Hi Mark, as always a nice and interesting video. Thanks for that, even though I have an automatic transmission. I'm always waiting for your new clips here. Greetings from Germany, where we're waiting for the spring weather.
Just did my transmission fluid using Valvoline Synchromesh for my Getrag 5 speed manual. Easy process, took my time. Mine was about 38 oz, but then it overflowed a bit, started dripping and had to keep wiping it for a few minutes until it quit. Easy job. I have a special work environment, I used my garage in floor tornado shelter, which doubles as a maintance bay for working under my car- no jacking required! Worked great for diff fluid and transmission! Thanks for the tutorial Mark! @MomentOfZed
I wound up purchasing another manual transfer pump for the transmission fluid, different from the on that I used for differential fluid. They are cheap, didn't have to worry about cleaning it.
A bit of liquid pipe sealant (not tape) on the drain plug threads is good insurance against a leak. After changing the fluid, mine had a very slight leak of maybe a dime-sized spot after a drive that I was able to fix with the sealant. It has never leaked a drop since.
Mark, did you find you needed to top up the oil after the initial fill? In my automatic transmission fill, I turned on the engine and cycled through the gears and was able to add more fluid.
Fortunately i havent had that issue. Did you change the fluid recently? If so is it all the way tightened? Even if you didnt is it all the way tightened? Are the threads clean both sides?
Hi. How long did that take you? I am not the type who does my own fixing. So I asked my friendly neighborhood BMW independent mechanic to check and replace my transmission oil. He said it is a “time consuming process.” So I want to cross check with you. Thanks. Awesome video as always.
Back under the differential. Dead center don't stress the cover. Front under the crossmember, but not the x brace!! See coolcat Terri's channel for a full video.
Now that a year has gone by, how would you describe the results of your choice of fluid for this Transmission fluid change? I am not on my journey of deciding which. I have nothing to really go on except to try and match others and go on their results. I have a 98 2.8 Z3
Good video. Nicely done. Just want to add I use the Red Line MTF. When I also used the Red Line ATF, did not like it. Switched to the MTF. Much nicer shifting. Currently at 361,000 on my 2000 2.3. Still going strong.

Dude your videos are amazing! You have helped me a lot with a Z that was stopped for 20 years 🤯!
Thanks! Sounds like a great project!
Thank you for the video, now I know why it is little hard to shift into reverse

@johncagle3362 thanks for watching! Wish I had that!
Nice job mate. Great advice about the replacement fluids too. There are plenty of options that meet or exceed BMW's original fluid specification 👍🏾
Thank you and thanks for watching!

Thought about that. If mine leaks thats the plan.
Great video! Also thank you for referencing my video I appreciate it!
Thank you! You're doing good work, keep it up!
I literally was about to do this tomorrow on my 97 2.8
Hello, tanks for this new video. Do you feel any improvement after the oil change ? Regards, Jérome.
Yes shifting smoother especially N to 1st and 4th to 5th.
How is the car shifting now? Have you noticed any slipping?
Thanks for the video. Very didactic and very useful.
Thank you for watching and using didactic!

Have to admit haven't had it back up to check.
Thanks another interesting video. Perfect lunchtime release and length. 👍
Thank you as always!
Another really useful video!! Thank you :)
Thank you for watching!
My transmission is leaking fluid from the drain plug. Do you think replacing the drain plug would fix it? Any experience with that?
Fortunately i havent had that issue. Did you change the fluid recently? If so is it all the way tightened? Even if you didnt is it all the way tightened? Are the threads clean both sides?
can someone tell me why the digital clock on my "97 sounds an alarm and shows me temp when it is 37 degrees outside or less? thanx for the videos
Scared the crap out of me the first time it went off. Done to warn you icy conditions are possible. Not a malfunction or problem.

If i had a lift it would have been an hour. Warmup, lift, drain, refill. Good luck with it! And thanks for the kind words!
How did you manage to get the car on those four jackstands? At what places under the car did you jack up the car?

Happy still and no current problems. Shifts well, no noises.
Did you feel a difference when shifting?

Are you supposed the filter and gasket ?
Do you have an automatic?
@@MomentofZed yes, Mines a 2000 z3 2.8. I wish mine was a standard but what can you do lol
I meant change those things by the way
@melissadavis2108 if its a manual you don't have those. You have the automatic?
@@MomentofZed yes it's automatic
Your undercarriage looks so clean, do you wash it?
Jeez 9:15 thats one dirty drain hole. You can hear it crunching

Is changing oil going to help with changing the gears? 0:05
Yep, much smoother gear changes for both manual & auto gearboxes.
