Bogren Digital did it - they found a way to make a KILLER metal guitar amp tone in less than 1 second. This amp sim plugin is called AmpKnob revC.
This is their FIRST plugin release, and it could be a game changer. Most amp sim companies like Neural DSP, STL, and IK Multimedia Amplitube have so so many things you can tweak, knobs to turn, mics to try out… but it doesn’t get you any closer to finishing your mix.
Bogren Digital’s AmpKnob revC guitar amp simulator plugin is the answer to all of that. It has one option and that’s IT.
This video showcases the guitar tone in a dense metal mix and shows you how quickly you can dial in amazing metal guitar tone in literally 1 second.

Something like a "Tight" switch or knob added would be really great and to still keep it extremely simple. For me the mesa rectifier is not tight enough and doesn't have enough attack(even boosted), like the mesa mark series amps for those extremely fast and tight riffs. Don't get me wrong, i tried this plugin out and it sounds absolutely killer for what it does, but it's more for those big metal tones rather than for fast riffs with a lot of attack. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it had the tight switch to give it more of the mark series character and feel or if there is gonna be a mark series ampknob plugin in the future.

I have STL Tonehub with quite a few packs so I might be covered when it comes to Mesa tones, however I would 100% recommend this to my bandmates who know next to nothing about recording and dialing tone! Heck if the demo passes the A/B test with TH and brings somthing new to the table I might just grab it for myself too. Great concept!

I tested the plugin. I have a specific sound in Guitar Rig that I always use to record. I replaced the guitar rig with oneknob and it sounds just as fat as before. A useful plugin!

It sounds good and it's a good idea. I think most of the guitar players (myself included) enjoy tweaking the knobs and messing with the amps and IRs... but do we always enjoy doing that? Maybe not. And there are those who just want to plug the guitar and play with some good tone... And of course, there are producers who are not guitar players and will benefit from how this tool will make things much easier and faster... And it can also be used to understand and learn what is a great guitar tone from the perspective of a great producer (Jens Bogren).

This plug in sounds amazing, that’s i unexpected . I had preconceived notions about it,I thought it was suck and stupid. The truth is it’s really shocking me! Thanks for your video!

ummmm, I'll just go with Line6 Metallurgy. More amps, sounds, effects etc.but sill quick and easy, low CPU consumption. Presets work out of the box, but tweakable to a degree.

The start of this video reminds me slightly of the exaggerated stress that infomercial actors display to make normal activities seem like an onerous burden. Not saying it's a slap-chop, but hear me out: the hard thing is recording a real amp well with all of the gear and setup required for that. That takes a lot of commitment in various ways. Amplitube 5 and other similar sims provide such a massive reduction in time & space commitment to recording the real deal, that by way of comparison the difference between dialing in a patch in it versus loading up one knob and setting up appropriate EQ to fit it better into a mix contest is frankly close to negligible. In exchange for that it sacrifices flexibility big time.
First thing I did evaluating Bogren's Rev C, after plugging into it and agreeing immediately that it was some nice Mesa tone right out the gate, was test AT5's newer Mesa 2 pack (which I got for $27 on sale, has several amps and cabs and they're quality) with my favorite IRs and I was grinning too. Doesn't take away a bit from Rev C's good tone, mind you, it is high quality and you can tell when you load it up and play! But if you thought "this cost almost $50, I want to see what it sounds like with a different IR" you're boned. It's weird to me, too, because Bogren is so well known apart from his production work for his great IR packs. No way to combine those purchases for any kind of shared utility here, whereas I can load 'em up for great results in Amplitube 5, Neural DSP's great sims, or Rhino / Mr. Hector from Aurora, or one of Igor Nembrini's modern amp sims (etc., etc., it's just a standard feature of amp sims since the 2000s to be able to load custom IRs!).
On the price, you note the idea of maybe having more options from this series in the future. Ok... The sound is there, I believe they could make more great sounding one-knob jobs... But two one knobs gonna put you $90 deep if you got 'em on intro? Three $130+? How many amps with no controls and only one IR are you willing to buy before you think, huh, it'd have been nice to have some adjustment on any of these instead of basically being nailed to a preset & then going through amp sims like almost $50 presets? Maybe there's a market for that, though, if they are all really well done I guess I could see it hitting with some folks.
Look, to be clear, I think Bogren has a great sounding modeler here but - to me - it is not a feature to have too few controls, and the lack of competitive flexibility bums me out. If anything BECAUSE it sounds nice, you know? Add the standard flexibility you expect to this, man, that'd be a winner of a product to me, love to buy it.
Your production style is great and I feel confident you could make any competent modern amp sim sound very nice in context. You definitely showcase this one well. Thanks for the review and also for the free Orange 2x12 IRs, really cool man!

Let's keep it simple ...Bogren AmpKnob + Ignite Libra IR loader (8) + Bogren mix ready IR (be they Clean, Lead, Rythm or Downtuned) and there you go ...then you can add the rest and it's incredible. Thanks Jens Bogren ...I was almost writing Bogner 🙂

nice idea, good sound, but too expensive for something that is designed to collect of different amp variations and then end up being very limited in the sound design. seems a little greedy to demand 49,- from Jens for a digital knob, where you can't even bypass the cab to have a little more variety. for 5 to 7 bucks i could imagine creating a collection.

    • @RaytownProductions
      @RaytownProductions  2 года назад +2

I think the question we should all be asking is, is more REALLY better? Maybe! Or maybe not! And if something that has 100 features does the same job as something that has 1, does that mean the thing with less features is worth less? I don't have the answer, just thinking out loud... 🙂 But I'm glad there are companies out there that are testing the waters with this new approach. Without them trying new things, we wouldn't ever know if a super simple interface like this is better for most users.

@@Bogren.Digital This has me really scratching my head TBH, you sell great sounding IR packs and then you make an amp sim that can't use them - are there any plans to release a product with a similarly nice sound but with more conventional flexibility, so that people can get value from your IRs with your amp sim too? I'd be all in on a well done comprehensive Rev C amp sim that had the tone controls I expect and could load custom IRs, and I could use your own IRs with it then for more options. Which, I can't help but feel, are only good to have. It's not like we're gonna get lost in the woods with 3 tone knobs plus presence, would be really nice to have the fundamental high quality sound you have going on in this plugin plus "the usual" accoutrements.
