    This occurred on Sunday, March 30, 1980, at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo in Massari Gym. I know, because I was a student there, and part of Concert Crew, and helped build the stage, etc. I was just a grunt, though. I had nothing to do with reading contracts...luckily.

    In the 1960's and 1970's, Yul Brynner had outrageous contract demands for his Broadway appearances, including that his dressing room be painted a certain color and that his refrigerator be stocked only with white eggs, absolutely no brown ones.

    I sell live aquarium fish online and Dave inspired me to insert something similar in my ads. If people don't read the whole thing, fish can literally die, or at least the customer may annoy the sh out of me by emailing questions they could have gotten the answers from in the ad. So I said if they read the whole thing, to say so in their response email and I would throw in something extra as a freebie in their box. Working incredibly well so far!

    The Ryder gives describes the band's equipment in detail. Electrical requirements because the arena is going to be inspected for electrical loads. The stage & rigging weights, because the city engineers have to review & sign off on it. VH's management was making doubly sure that nothing went wrong because everyone gets sued big time if there's an accident or fire.

    • @spicy321
      @spicy321 3 года назад +1

      Actually, at that time there weren't any red M & M's. They were discontinued in the 70s for the red dye fear and replaced with orange. Red became available again in the late 80s. What's interesting is that the dye used in M & M's was not the one that was banned but they pulled it anyway so as not to scare anyone from buying them. The orange color still used a red dye to make it so it was in there anyway.

    I'm trying to remember which band had the same story about what was it Eminem's yeah brown m&M's and supposedly the reason why it was in the contract was that if they didn't read and pay attention and adhere to that part of the contract that means they probably didn't read any of the contract and it wasn't as Petty and stupid as one thought they just wanted to make sure that these promoters read the contracts and stuck to it

    You go Dave! Its a check like anything else. Did the bozo promoter bother to read the contract? Not all there hog? It makes perfect sense, its called checks and balances. Another method to make sure things are getting done. It didn't have to be M&M's it could have been Skittles, pretzels, beer. You would be surprised who else does this and you think they are just being moody I seem to remember other performers asking for similar things.

      The question was "Why no brown m&ms?" The answer was "Because we wanted to make sure the concert promoters read the entire contract to insure everything for the shows was set up according to specifications & safety regulations" with the thought being that if they got something trivial like the m&ms right then they'd probably get the big things right too. I always wondered about the m&m story & what he said made sense & puts it into logical perspective.

    Total BS story. Someone decades ago speculated the BACKSTAGE brown M&Ms demand (which for the record would have been the responsibility of some teenage worker or contracted caterer) was some form of game theory, and Dave (the guy who left VH to sing cover songs) decided to own it.
