    I'm so glad you like the paints! I am head over heels over her mixes. I love that she includes pigment info (vivianite is actually a natural pigment, btw). When I approached Masha about a collab to send you paints, I specifically asked for a granulating set. The ones in the palette are her granulating best sellers. I also tried to make sure you were getting pigments I don't usually see you use in any videos (I've binge watched enough to have an idea of what you usually have on hand). The swatching is fun but where you see the magic is in actual full paintings as you will soon find out! 🤗🤗 Also, Masha and I had a huge (very friendly) debate going on for a few days. Now that you have the palette, which color do you like best so far from the swatches: Peach or Turquoise Violet? Also, if you had to pick two out of Peach, Flame and Turquoise Violet, which would you pick as good choices to use in addition to the others in the palette?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  2 года назад +2

      Ack! I can't pick yet! Let me do a painting first! :)

  • @FriendlySeal
    @FriendlySeal 2 года назад +8

    $170 price point is quite steep. At that price point you can buy Schminke, Daniel Smith, etc and some brushes and paper too. Not sure it's worth it but it certainly is unique and fun.

    • @lunakat7020
      @lunakat7020 2 года назад

      You shure got that right!

    • @FriendlySeal
      @FriendlySeal 2 года назад +3

      and in terms of actual color varieties, the swatches are pretty but I don't think the colors themselves are that unique. DS has a lot of similar looking clones. I am talking Mayan Blue, Undersea Green, etc. and we know the quality of DS, Schminke, Mt Graham and all those top tier paints is exceptional, there is no guesswork there so the fact that these are even more expensive than those is quite shocking. I suppose it is difficult for a small business to compete with them so I get that but that is quite a lot of money.

    • @lunakat7020
      @lunakat7020 2 года назад +1

      @@FriendlySeal I agree with you, I also noticed since granulating paints are popular the price hike on some brands from China. I think it's Vision on Amazon the price is ridiculous.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  2 года назад +1

      Handmade paint is time consuming and expensive to make as they use the same pigments as the famous companies but they don't get the quantity discounts that DS or Schminke would. I tried making watercolor once and discovered it was a lot of work 😆 and I'd rather paint. The palettes are made by hand and are beautiful. My husband is a woodworker so i know the skills and tools you need. It's a luxury item for sure but I doubt any handmade watercolor artisan is making a ton of money from their labors. You should always choose the supplies that meet your needs and budget but things made by hand are always more expensive than machine made. Sweaters for instance.

    • @lunakat7020
      @lunakat7020 2 года назад +1

      @@thefrugalcrafter I do realize how much work goes into creating your own paint I have done it myself. I also have a bit of hand made paints that I love and will always purchase. My staples are M. Graham,Daniel Smith and Qor the hand made are my special colors. My husband is a carpenter 40 years so indeed I do know how much work goes into wood working etc. What they say is true they work so hard on their contracts your own house never gets done lol.

    Ive bought watercolors from Mashas Etsy shop several times. I have several of her beautiful cobalt turquoise and green colors(they are beautiful) i also have some of her fugitive specialty mixes- that are super fun to use in sketchbooks. O and PY40 is Cobalt Yellow which is a fugitive color, so make sure to paint only in your sketchbook when using colors with PY40- bc PY40 color doesnt fade but it darkens to a muddy grey color. But still fun to use in sketchbooks!:)
    Lastly BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY!!--- WE LOVE WATCHING SWATCHES PAINTED OUT!! Yes i know it may sound like its borning BUT its not!! Im confident in saying most art youtube video watchers LOVE watching art haul or new palette and/or paint being swatched out!! So anytime you have new paint we'd LOVE to watch you actually swatch them out!! A lot of Art RUclipsrs really capitalize on this and their entire channel or about half of their channel is just swatching: swatching their favorite art supplies for that month and/or swatching their paints and palettes---its super popular and the videos with swatching always gets lots of views and lovely comments...So please dont be hesitant and shy--swatch for us, most of us LOVE it and want it!! Lol. Sorry, to get a little crazy, Im passionate about swatching. 😆 🤣 lol. Anyway such a great video, thanks for sharing. Much love!!

      Also Vivianite is a mineral- like malachite- malachite is a mineral too. So when you get a paint that says Vivianite or Malachite Genuine they are real mineral paints (but not like Daniel smiths primatek "real" mineral paints). So you know how PY42 is the synthetic version of PY43.. So PR101 is the synthetic version of PR102- its a pretty popular pigment used in professional watercolor brands like Daniel Smith and Roman Szmal...Tho PR102 and PR101 to me, look and act the same and are interchangeable. Anyway hope this helps. 😄

    Hullo Lindsay, I have avoided handmade paints for about 20 years. I did make my own watercolors before that and I had problems with lightfastness. I did break down and use some from AGallo Paints from Italy. I was asked to do an evaluation for a friend, she was going to buy supplies for a weekend retreat and wanted to purchase several palettes of paint for her ”campers” I mention only these as they were the very best that I have ever tried, from a handmade creator! I enjoyed watching you play with these exceptional paints. The palette is truly lovely! The clacking of the magnets was so FUN!

    I can't wait to see what you create with these. I happen to love the look and magic of granulating watercolors, have several, and admittedly haven't played with them yet. Please share, I really learn a lot from you Lindsay. Congrats on gift!

    Gorgeous! I love your swatching videos. I enjoy seeing the colors move on the paper. Lucky you! I'm glad these brought you out of your weather-caused funk. 😉

    These look amazing, and I love her craft palettes. And apart from the peach, the samples look pretty much the same as the label.
    But I suck at watercolors still, so I'm more for solid middle-class supplies for myself. But buying two or three of the half-pans - well, that seems possible ...

    I love and frequently use handmade watercolors. They are so unique and many super granulating!

    When I started watercoloring I could paint a whole painting with just a few small dots of old Holland aquarel paints..which where the first (and very expensive) artist grade paints I had.. these look beautiful but I don't like the unpredictable nature of granulating colors but love watching YOU talk about what you see and explain to US.

    I use distilled water for watercoloring. Our water has too much chlorine in it plus who knows what else!

    I jumped knees deep in to hand crafted watercolors and tested alot of them out my top favorite is STONE WORKS MILL WATERCOLORS based in W. VA. Kelly is just amazing. Second is Khannah Honey Hues based in the UK SWM is highly granulated and pigmented the quality is like daniel smith. Khannah really has perfected the perfect creamy texture of watercolor even senneliers formula isnt blended like that. I would always grab her paints over sennelier.

    These watercolors are pretty interesting. Another interesting paint is the Rockwell paint from Canada, especially the color: Magic Wizard.

    The Blue Iron one and Malachite look especially awesome to me 🥰. Malachite has been used to make make up and stuff in Ancient Egypt, I didn't know one could use it for water colours, too. Kinda imagining it would feel awesome to paint with a pigment that's been used for so long already 😁

    So true with switching to plastic frames! Once you embrace the lightweight comfort there's no going back!
    Our town water is pretty hard but I have a RODI filter unit for my fishtank water and keep a jug of ultrapure soft water for my clean water bucket in my study 😅

    Those are beautiful! I really like the pallet! I have my eye on some other handmades that do color shifting and my oh my are they lush! Although the water puck is pricey to me, I really like how quickly it’s cleaning your brush! That dang want monster gets me every time! TFS!
