if i were to use carbon, kdf 55, and garnet, do i just pour them in together and they will form the "layers" of filtration as they settle? how does one calcualte how much of each type of media to use? any help is much appreciated. thanks!
Hi, that's a different type of scenario than the type of mixed bed shown in this video. Garnet is an underbedding, so you would want to add that first, and then the KDF, which is much heavier than the carbon. The total amount of media that you would use would be determined by your tank size. How much of each type would just depend on what you're trying to accomplish.
in an iron filter with Smart Blend, such as our Centuri, Sidewindr, or Reactr, then media is typically good for 6-8 years, but this can vary depending on your water quality and usage.
@@watersoft7308 Ok thank you. I just got the Sidewinder system a few months ago, but have had iron readings as high as 10ppm. There is a spindown filter upstream of the tank. Is there a way to tell when it's wearing out?
Hello! We use different media for different applications. Carbon is great for removing all kinds of tastes/odor/color from water, but it's not what you would want to use for iron removal or pH adjustment. Smart blend is a mixed media that will remove iron, raise low pH, and filter particulates down to 5 microns.
For replacement
Please how do i do the discharging of the fibreglass tank?
you can just dump the media out or you can suck it out with a shop vac.

How often do I need to replace the media in this system?

hello, technically as long as you aren't experiencing pressure loss, the media is most likely still good
why do you use a mix bed. Why not all carbon
