FYI the spoken word part in the middle is done by the vocalist of the band Sikth, Mikee Goodman. Sikth is an OG prog metal band that inspired bands like Periphery and Tesseract
OH SHIT! IT"S HAPPENING!!! This is easily one of the most impressive songs they have ever written. This song is also THE OPENER of P4. What a bold move to open an album with an almost 17 minute song from a band that hasn't done that before.
I will watch literally anyone react to this crazy ass song for the first time. To this day I think some of the high points in this track are as good as metal can get. The middle section is some of Spencer's best vocals and the guitar section right after it is impossible to resist headbanging to.
A couple years ago, I saw them in Nashville and they opened with this song!!! It was at the end of that song, I realized I’m an old man now. I still had the rest of the set to go through lol Also imo this is one of the greatest songs of all time!
I always love telling people I like listening to a 16-17 minute song and their expression is always funny xD Idk how or why but I can listen to this song so easily without getting bored or impatient. Double points if I’m working because it hypes me up.
I struggled at first to get through the first section thinking they could’ve done without that many verses but the pay off in the middle section is so beautiful particularly “rich poor” and then “pray through night”. Then the guitar solo into the orchestra was so seamless. This one was at the point where the band was not on a big label and just wanted to do whatever they want. They definitely have been experimenting from Periphery 3 onwards!
Good old fashioned Progressive Metal, I recommend Opeth and Gojira for you two to listen to, Gojira is Groove Metal and Opeth is Progressive Metal just like Periphery but also very different.
You should definitely watch the live playthrough of this song that Meinl Cymbals put out. Not only do they play the entire song live, they do it incredibly well, despite how tired they were from a show or something (i forgot the actual reason, but the gist is they were tired haha). But yeah, definitely worth a watch !
Hello girls, you have already reacted to this band previously called "Killswitch Engage", I recommend another song from them and it is called "the arms of sorrow".
Hey ladies. Came by to say y’all really need to check out “I Am” by Kalandra. I know y’all usually do the paid requests, but trust me this one is special
Andrea loves Kublai Khan so she's probably already heard it and I don't think Dallas would be super into it lol It was an incredible album though, I just wish it was longer!! Too many hardcore type bands put out the shortest albums. Knocked loose did the same thing to me when I realized their most recent album was only like 6 minutes longer than the last EP 😭
One small recommendation I have is to just take a look at the lyrics and try to decode what the song is about. It makes the song that much more impactful. A lot do themes about greed in this song. Hence the title “reptile” referring to a slithery green creature named “Billy” (billionaire) who “liked to get high.” The ending has a lot to do with how despite the differences in wealth and income, at the end of the day people like Billy are no different than you and I and the soil they claim to own is the soil we all get buried in one way or another.
Ohh, that would make sense. I know sometimes they wear clothes that look like scrubs and I think I've asked in the past if they are nurses and they didn't say anything so I assumed it was a secret lol Being a dentist would explain the fact that they both have perfect teeth
Just sitting and listening to a song this long without a music video is honestly impressive lol I would feel like I have to start cleaning, dancing, or doing something else to make sure I don't actually start tweaking out 😭 I paused this video so many times it took me almost an hour to watch the whole thing but it was worth it 😂 except the fact the last minute, or however long, was just that noise is kind of obnoxious, like what was even the point in including that lol I hate when bands do that but otherwise the song was pretty good. I feel like people would have to get really angry before being able to play drums that long, like you gotta be fueled by something more than just standard energy. It's like sometimes when I have to carry something really heavy I think about people who hurt animals or the fact that communists exist and then I put all that rage into lifting and carrying whatever it is lol if I start feeling like I can't do it anymore, I just am like "F YOU COMMIES" (I scream it in my head so I don't look insane) and then it's like a little boost of strength. BUT ANYWAY, I don't think i've ever seen a song that got Andrea to close her eyes for an extended period of time, homie was vibing for real. I still want Andrea's shirt...it's so cute.
You are so funny and I love you! I literally thought of you when this song came out. I thought oh geez Charlotte is going to struggle with this one. It’s a long one! It was a cool song just a little long. I’m going to use your trick the next time I need to lift something heavy! Although it might make me giggle thinking of you doing that before lifting whatever it is that is heavy. I’m going to try it though! 😂😊-D
@@dna2001 I love you! you guys are all the best for real and you gotta try it!! I know it sounds crazy but it works 🤣 being angry floods your system with stress hormones and it limits the blood flow to the gut and redirects it to our muscles which is part of the reason why people get stomach pain when they are really stressed or mad. There's logic behind my insanity sometimes lol and now you can try it if you ever need to impress wheels (more than you already do)! This song was pretty cool though, I do agree with that, but I definitely was struggling to get through it more than I expected to so you clearly know me very well 😓
This song is fine and all but Lune is better. They're my favorite band but I wouldn't even put Reptile in their top 10 tracks. People are too hung up on how long it is and a few specific moments but at several points it could've just been made in to different songs and you'd never know. They have so many better structured songs that are more technically impressive than this while being much more catchy at the same time. I listen to their discography a lot still but I only listen to this track again for reactions.

Believe it or not.. this song starts that album.. crazy idea to start with a 16 minute song but it worked!
Bad comment

Matt Halpern is an incredible drummer. Watch some of his playthroughs, so smooth. Super nice guy too.
About to start watching. You ladies are in for a treat with this one. One of my favorites
FYI there is a full live band studio play through of this song ❤
God that guitar solo is so good. Those pinch harmonics absolutely scream
Yes they open with this song! I’ve seen them dozens of times.
They opened with Ragnarok last I saw them. This was 4 songs in. Hearing it live is 😮😮😮
@@bobaloohoo1777 opening with Ragnarok is also insane lol! love it
During the "We Come for Tour" tour it was their set opener and it was amazing to see live.
They do play this live. And they kill it.
"I wonder if they have to do endurance stuff". Their drummer is probably doing a cold plunge in a barrel as we speak.
Yall gotta do ... the plot in you -left behind .....sleep elucid and imminence-in the black
Whoops supposed to say sleep tokken-Euclid
Man this album blew me away. Hearing this as an opener was very surprising in the best way.
I highly recommend ragnarok or the way the news goes because they have music videos n you guys can put a face to everyone in the band!
Satellites please! Very melodic and showcases Spencer’s singing!

Periphery likes to end a lot of songs with 1+ minute long synth sections. Always so nice
Not sure if it’s been mentioned… but a couple of years ago, they opened their hour plus long set with this song.
Good old fashioned Progressive Metal,
I recommend Opeth and Gojira for you two to listen to, Gojira is Groove Metal and Opeth is Progressive Metal just like Periphery but also very different.
Gojira isn’t pure groove.

One of my favorite songs by Periphery!
Theme, writing, vocal and musical performance are top tier. This is a masterpiece by many standards.
THANK YOU NATE! Been waiting for this one!
I gotchu my boy 😎
Periphery=life
They have played it live!
Hahaha I was just typing that it reminds me of thriller too 😂
YEESS! We are so right! I immediately thought it’s the thriller guy! 😂-D
@@dna2001 now that I’m thinking about it, Spencer would kill it on a thriller cover!
Nate you are the man!
Well, you gotta listen to its sister song (titled Bury The Light) then....
Try 'The World Breathes With Me' by Caligula Horse, for some prog without screaming but still heavy
There is a new band out called Grinn , very good 👌
