Saved a Deer from a brutal death

  • I understand that there are certain situations where a wild animal cannot be released back in to the wild. With that said, a deer is not a dog. Don't put collars on wild animals. It took me a long time to get this deer to come to me to get the collar off, and it would have died a long hard death if I had not. I gave this one some back and ear scratches and she disappeared back into the woods.

Thank you for being good to these angels. They are innocent.

She was wary of me for a long time, but I just sat out in the yard and amazingly she came up to me. Once I got that collar off, we were buds lol. I have seen what collars will do to an animal that is still growing that is not cared for. Very sad ending. Thank you much my friend.

You'd be that friendly too if someone came along and saved your life in such a way.

With tame deer like this people put collars on them so hunters don't shoot them.

yes, as someone pointed out the collar was put on with good intent, but they probably did it before the deer was fully grown and it's neck got wider and then it was too tight, poor thing

Thank you for your work. At least find a sanctuary to take them in instead of gamble with a tame deer's life (to whoever put the collar on the deer)

Not trying to throw any shade on anyone but I did contact proper authorities on this matter. Only took them two days to get a return phone call. By that time the deer had since wandered off.

The person who put the collar on didn't want hunters to shoot it, but forgot the deer would grow and not fit the collar one day. Poor thing.

That's probably it exactly. People have to realize that deer go through fences and through trees and brush. Collars are super dangerous in these situations, as they get caught up and the animal could die a long death. It's best to let wild animals just be wild.

Isn't taming a prey animal ultimately a death sentence for it when they lose the instinct to avoid the hunter who will find them an easy target??
I get that those people have good intentions by feeding them but going too far by trying to pet them for the sake of a "cute" video (RUclips has hundreds of examples) must end in tragedy for those poor fawns. Prey animals are meant to be skittish and fear predators. Humans are predators even if some of us don't directly shoot deer, others do.

Yes, it could very well end that way for this deer as well. There are many people that hunt in this region. My hope is, that this deer, will fall in with other deer in the area and maybe get some of that instinct back. It may or may not work, but we just do what we can.

I don't think you need to judge a person an asshole. The person was trying to protect the deer by putting a collar on it and didn't realize the deer would grow into it. The deer probably hasn't been back to the person so the collar could be adjusted.

This isn't the first time I have seen a wild animal with a collar. The last time was a deer hung in a fence line that died there unable to free itself. Sorry if my judgement sounds overly unfair but I am going to stick with what I said. Ignorance is not an excuse.
