  • Photographing the Peregrine on our sea cliffs. Although a fast flying bird when stooping down to catch its prey in normal flight the Sony A1 and the 200-600mm found it easy to keep up with the this special raptor.

    Beautiful video. I’ve never seen a Peregrine although they live in central London where I work and apparently around the cliffs of Dover 20 miles from where I live in Kent.

    Wonderful photos. Nice that they are so common in the UK. Not so much in the USA but if you know where to look one can find them. They have certainly increased in numbers since I was a boy also. So fun to watch them fly and can achieve so incredible speed not only in the stoop but also in level flight. So much faster than other birds along the coast. Thanks for sharing you photography and keep up the good work.

    Excellent Mike I love Peregrines, I photograph ones around Derbyshire. They usually hunting pigeons it’s amazing to watch and get shots . presume you using zone focus ? Do you leave bird eye AF on for BIF ? Also which tracking sensitivity?

    • @MikeLaneFRPS
      @MikeLaneFRPS  3 года назад +2

      Wide focus area with bird tracking. Level 1 for sensitivity

    • @leonkirkbride6559
      @leonkirkbride6559 3 года назад

      @@MikeLaneFRPS Thanks Mike I find that tracking sensitivity to really make a difference , for Swifts , Swallows I use 4 but like 1 and 2 for most other things normally 2 for the Peregrines flex spot set to half shutter and wide or zone set to AF-ON button

  • @KenToney
    @KenToney 2 года назад

    Hi Mike, do you have any exposure comp on these shots (BIF)?

    • @MikeLaneFRPS
      @MikeLaneFRPS  2 года назад +1

      When against a blue sky no. Against a white sky yes, but I might stop taking pictures with a white sky.

    Great stuff Mike! I have a ? For you … I’m using DSLR gear canon 80D with sigma 150-600.. & much like your spot in the video by me it’s a cliff setting and at time I’m above looking down on him/her…. My ? Is though I always stay is single point AF….& that gets tricky especially when falcon is flying soo should I go up in AF to the next larger option the box or even bigger ? Thanks appreciate it

    • @mikkelstormhansen9733
      @mikkelstormhansen9733 3 года назад +1

      The general rule of thumb, is to use the smallest at area that you can reliably keep on your subject. If it’s too difficult with single point, try zone af, if it’s still too difficult try large zone. Hope this helps

    • @MikeLaneFRPS
      @MikeLaneFRPS  3 года назад

      @@mikkelstormhansen9733 I would agree with the above. It is rare to do flight shots with a single foucs point.

      Hi Psul,
      No sorry. We tried selling them, but demand was too low and we gave up. Butteo hides I highly recommend. There is a link in the description of all my reccent videos or Google Buteo hides.
