- Deutsche Grammophon is set to release 'Retrospective I', a deluxe hardcover book edition with a CD box set featuring seven of Jóhann's early works including 'The Miners' Hymns', 'Copenhagen Dreams', 'Virðulegu Forsetar' and a previously unreleased score 'White Black Boy'. It's the first part of a two-volume release with 'Retrospective II' being released in 2020.
To celebrate the release of 'Retrospective I', producer Áine Devaney and filmmaker Blair Alexander traced Jóhann's roots back to his home town of Reykjavík, Iceland to speak to some of the people who knew him best. It's a rare and insightful glimpse at the places and stories that shaped the person who later became the composer we now know as Jóhann Jóhannsson.

I was very sad the day Johannsson died. The world lost something precious and of real value that day.
this is so sad and wonderful all at the same time. these stories from people who knew johann are so touching. thank you for sharing this with the world.
Every piece of his music was a work of art, it was beautiful in so many ways. As they said, we have lost one of the greats he will live on with us through his music
A beautiful tribute to a unique person.
It is so sad that this singular artist, who composed such exceptional, distinctive and above all beautiful music left us … so soon. Naturally, there is a great sense of sadness … but there is also gratitude too. Gratitude that we can experience Jóhann Jóhannsson's musical environment with such profound emotion, respect and love.
"A theory of everything" is such a masterpiece. sad about such young age. his music is really profound.
This made me cry again for the loss of Johann and the music uncomposed and unheard from his genius. Such a beautiful short film. Thank you.
Very sad to have discovered his music only to find out weeks later that he'd passed. A beautiful artist
Such a legend. Sorely missed.
Great words said by Dustin, thanks to everyone who put this together.
Makes me sad... What a huge loss for modern classical music. He is truly one of the best...
Can anybody identify all the music used in this video?
Love his work. It would have been most interesting to hear what he did for Blade Runner 2049
Incomparable.
Very nice tribute to a great composer who had a very unique voice that still touches today.
what's really sad is the rewriting of history, of which Jóhann was *incredibly* aware of.
He was seriously a TOP NOTCH musician ❤❤ he was one of the great up and coming composers of our generation .. still such a tremendous loss 😥😥
"Chopin, Beethoven and Mozart never died, they simply became Music"
