The graphics are better, sharper edges and better polished, the colour palette is way off though it makes it seem a bit muted.

For me personally it ran mostly fine except for the batmobile which dropped frames big time.
@Axeiaa Actually, I didn't have such of these problems. Even though the story wasn't as good as previous games i liked the gameplay. We're evolving backwards.
My eyes don't see a graphical fidelity difference. Only a style difference. Can you point out to me the devolving choices in the squad game. I of course saw the bad gameplay. No excuse for that
@HanmaHeiro arkham city has better textures and lighting for a game with no ray tracing. Keep that in mind.
@@HanmaHeiro Unalive squad doesn't have ambiance, flat textures as in worse bump mapping, non-existent cinematic lighting & horrible UI. The older Arkham games have darker gritty lighting that fits perfectly well with the dark superhero theme. Worst of all is that they don't stfu during combat. Rocksteady is filled with amateurs after the veterans left.
If you can't see the difference then you either don't have any experience with 3d animation or don't care about fidelity. It's like claiming to be an audiophile but can't differentiate 44k Hz from 48k Hz.

Art design > Raw graphics
always always always. the N64 era is the best example
Exactly. Lower pixels with micro details > higher pixels with no details
@@DaDoubleDee Yeah. Some N64 games, especially the ones not aiming for realism aged really well. Games like Conker's Bad Fur Day, Banjo-Kazooie are still looking good. And often developers really push the limits and came up with creative art direction that compensated the lack of hardware capabilities. I think even many Switch games can be mentioned, Switch hardware is weak but some devs come up with some really pleasing art direction that won't age badly.
In case of Arkham City / Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad, the technological differences are huge. UE3 vs UE4, huge hardware performance gap but amazing art direction destroys the modern tech.
And yet SSKTJL's graphics is far from the best nor does it excel in anything. Live service, undoing of Arkham Batman and being disrespectful for DC heroes mark the downfall of Rocksteady
Suicide squad doesn't have either of those two.
Arkham City requires a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (518.4 GFLOPs) to run while Suicide Squad requires a GTX 1070 (6.5 TFLOPs / 6,500 GFLOPS). Where is all that extra horse power going?

There was a period when games were too good that we barely had the hardware to run them.
Now games are too bad that we barely have the hardware to run'em.
I think these graphics card companies and the customers are to blame.
About a decade ago, we started getting good cards and there was period where gamers were complaining about the stupid FPS. No matter what, all they wanted was more FPS. Developers didn't hold back, now all they do is try to run their game on the best card available in the industry and then release it. Now they can come back at the customers asking for optimisation to go get a better set up.
the main problem with most of modern games are they sacrifice the soul and atmosphere for graphics, its soo easy to find out which had blood sweat and tears poured into to it and which was a lazy cash grab
Well that's not quite the case is it? The Arkham games are way, way older with better graphics (!!) and much more soul to it all
People tend to mix up the technical side of graphics with the artistic one. Technically, the new one is more advanced and therefore more demanding to run. But art direction wise, the old ones are more focused on creating a high contrast, high visual detail aesthetic. Technically, the new one has it harder because they have varying time of day, and therefore can’t pre bake all the lighting, and artistically, the new one also is a harder job for the team, since making a city that works under all lighting scenarios is harder and naturally means less polish than only one lighting scenario.
None of that is to excuse the final result tho ofc, the old ones effectively managed to do more with less, and if no one cares about having the city in daytime as well, then one can totally argue that going for it was a misguided decision to begin with. (which seems to be a common theme about this game in general lel)

I don’t care what the studio says, it’s not canon. Canon isn’t just “whatever the current rights holder says.” The idea of canon comes from Christian theology, and even in that 2000 year old tradition there are different canons depending on what sect you belong to. It’s not just “the Roman Catholic Church gets to decide for all time what’s canon” (although I guess Catholics believe that). Canon is a nebulous concept negotiated between the original artist and the consumer. You can’t just fire the entire original creative team, pump out something that doesn’t even adhere to the continuity of the original, and say “Yeah but we have the copyright therefore you have to accept it as canon to the continuity you like.”

Graphical fidelity, vs. art direction.
Ultimately, the former has already reached a point where most people are happy. Ultra realism is not something developers should focus on over true artistic direction, clarity and immersion.
I am immersed in Arkham Asylum despite it being 15 years old - no such immersion comes from SSKTJL when all I can actually see are neon explosions, random numbers and multipliers and purple orbs everywhere.
Arkham Knight had a good balance of fidelity and art direction, the wetness and light reflections and the design of the architecture - that game was really good looking.

It is incredible that the systems from 10 years ago were cheaper, better graphically, more optimized, with better physics and everything better, what happened? I would understand the reason if they had saved in the budget, but it was very expensive, it doesn't make sense.
Should we go back to using graphics engines from several years ago?
The arkham game graphic wise still holds up..thats crazy
No, they don't hold up at all. 😂 The artstyle and visuals do but not the graphics which is more to do with overall resolution, aillising, and level of texture detail. I tried them in max settings and they look dated next to good newer quality games. SS:KtJL is low quality trash so even with better graphics/resolution, the artsyle/visuals are inferior to the Arkham games.
It’s evolving, but backwards.
Arkham City GPU requirements are: *ATI 3850HD 512 MB* or *NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB.* These are cards from 2007. The game was made with the PS3 in mind.
If you go to that techpowerup site and choose the next best thing, the GeForce 9800 GT (which I think was comparable to the 8800 GT), then this is how they compare to the GPUs that "SS" lists on the Steam page:
1070 is 1013%
RX Vega 56 is 1078%
2080 is 1652%
6800 XT is 2601%
So the requirements are somewhere between x10 (to play "SS" on LOW, at 30 fps) and x26 ("high", 60 fps).
All while somehow looking not that much better, and often even worse.
But I think there's something wrong with the 6800 XT assessment. It's not twice as fast as the 2080, I've seen benchmarks. It's 50-60% at best.
Until recently, growing up with these games... i never took the chance to take a moment to appreciate them and how privelaged I was to grow up with games made with such passion. Now i can only look back on them as a fond memory of the past.

I'll be honest. The game (SSKTJL) doesn't look that bad overall if you don't compare it to the other Arkham games. The actual motion capture and performances are very solid, but the problem is the wonky storytelling, the inconsistent plot, the disrespectful and nerfed portrayals of the Justice League, the disgustingly horrible boss fights, the LOOTY SHOOTY style, the TikTok Brain gameplay and overall repeating mission types.
I'd call it 'Waste potential'.
Even gameplay wise, there are far more superior games rather than Kill the Justice League.
Something like Just Cause 3, Doom etc.
Hell I'd even dare enough to put Fortnight for comparison lmao.
In general Unreal Engine 3 graphics have aged like fine wine imo, unless they use that atrocious brown or grey filter of course.
Older games used to have very specific post processing effects on to enhance the overall look of games, now they prefer to keep the image clean, I imagine its so you can see other players skins clearer so that you would want to buy them for your game.

the game is just a cash grab that they made in a year or two with gluing prerecorded voicelines with new animations
nothing feels fluid
There's just something different about Gotham overall that makes it so much better as a video game environment. The grittiness of the city, the way that when you think of it you can't help but imagine it on a dark night, moon hanging low in the sky, dark clouds, overcast, the dirty and murky waters, depilated buildings in some of the worse areas, expansive sewers, the neon lights, the papers blowing by in the wind, the clubs, the crime, the highlife, the lowlife, the thugs roaming the alleys, the gangs patrolling their turf, the women on the corners, the costumed freaks out and about, the constant sounds of the police sirens, explosions going off in one area of the city, and gun shots ringing from the other. Gotham is just the definitive comic book city imo, and no matter how much better they could've done, it still wouldn't have compared to the almost hypnotic draw of Gotham's aesthetic.
Sweet Baby inc really did a number on the industry.
