For me I went with the Henson TI22 straight off the bat, I was using a Shick hydro 5 blade before, but their disposable blades went down hill since the last time i bought them so started researching alternatives. Mainly got the TI because of two reasons, it was heavier than the AL, and I don't trust the AL to take a serious drop (other hobbies of mine, aluminum dents/deforms easily when my tripod comes crashing down off the side of a cliff) not really expecting to shave off the side of a cliff but titanium sounds cool.
The only issue i have with the TI, only one color.. i want them to anodize it for me -- i forgot to ask before i bought it. oh well, i have this for life now and totally happy with it.
the alum "crappy technique finder" block is a good learning tool, have had less screaming the last few shaves lately.

I have never used the TRC. I have a Henson AL13 Mild. From the review, you made a couple of good points regarding the Henson. First, you said the TRC is more aggressive than the Henson yet the Henson gave you a better shave with less irritation. Second, the Henson is built to much higher tolerances. There is no movement in the blade when it's installed in the Henson, whereas it is a bit of a sloppy fit in the TRC. In my mind, it's a no-brainer. Buy the Henson. Better shave, better build quality, better tolerances. It is worth the extra money. I would rather own fewer high-quality razors than a pile of cheapies.

Came for the Henson review. Thank you, good sir! As a woman, I get tired of the rubber and plastic parts harboring mold so I was looking for an all stainless option. Since I shave in the shower, my razor is in a moist environment and even though it hangs out of the line of water spray, the fog alone is enough to render any other material disgusting and not very long lasting.

Great video from you as usual ! I own both of these razors and both are excellent. That said, I own a LOT of razors and the Henson is the best engineered razor that I have ever seen. I have the stainless steel version of the TRC and the posts are actually on the cap not the plate, which I found interesting. The SS TRC is a great value at 80$. Also, I love how you show that mild razors have no problems taking down 10 days of growth. I hear a lot of people say that mild razors can't do that, but I have never had a problem with a mild razor taking down a lot of growth. In fact, I prefer mild razors taking down a lot of growth due to having sensitive skin.

I recently bought the Henson AL++ medium in steel blue. I absolutely love it. Many years ago... 40 -45... when I was a teenager and in my early 20s... I used a Gilette butterfly DE razor, which I still have. It shaved ok. Not as good as the Henson. For many years I have been using an electric razor. It is amazing what a good shave I am getting with a Henson razor and a good blade.
I am still working on figuring out which blades are best for me. I bought a sample pack and have been trying them. The RKs are good, but I know there are better. The Derby Extra Super Stainless gave an okay shave but was not comfortable and irritated my face. I couldn't even get through 1 complete pass with the Super Max Titanium. They ripped up my face. Halfway through my first pass, I changed to a Voskhod Teflon Coated and have been extremely impressed. Looking forward to trying others.

Used the Henson AL-13 Mild this morning with a 2nd use Wilkinson Sword. The Henson in my book shaves smoother than the TRC. I used the TRC last Sunday and thought it was a little bit too aggressivefor me and had some irritation from it. Must have been the Blade I was using. I was looking into an adjustable but after this video I think I’ll just stay with the AL-13 ++ as I am really impressed how it went thru all that growth. Have you tried the mild AL-13 on that much growth? You might save me $100. I’ll now re-watch your AL-13 vs. Leaf thorn video before that final decision.
My Leaf twig should be here on Tuesday. I may take a pause in my testing just to see how many shaves I can get out of the twig with the Astra blade as I got 5 excellent shaves 1 really good and it was clear I pushed it on the 7th with the AL-13. But my next blade is the persona white paper I my testing.

The beveled edge is on the new version of the Henson razor. I have the old and new version. The old version had sharp corners that extended beyond the blade significantly. The beveled edge brings the corners in closer to the blade allowing you to use the corner of the razor to get into tight spots around the nose. The new edition of the razor also has a larger continuous lather channel, a wider handle, and more pronounced knurling on the handle. the only safety razor I have ever used, the king c Gillette, is really great for the price. $27 weighing 102g, its chrome plated, and it shaves great. I've been thinking about changing things up though since my bro is now really liking safety razors. I was looking at the Henson and was put off by the weight, but the precision of the machining is really amazing on the Henson.
how would you say going from 102g to 38g feels? besides the outcome of the shave, does it feel cheap being lighter? thats what first wowed me about the Gillette was the weight, and the chrome exterior, it felt like a work of art. its not just about getting a good shave, but also the feel of using it. does the weight significantly hurt this aspect of using it that much?

    • @OhioShaves
      @OhioShaves  6 месяцев назад +1

Henson is made of aluminum at 38g doesn't feel like much in your hands. Henson shaving is the number one selling safety razor in the world. If you don't get the correct angle, it does not cut. That's why so many beginners are switching to safety Razors using a Henson

@@OhioShaves thats what I was worried about. I have no trouble shaving with my king c, and honestly the biggest reason for me going with a safety razor is strictly how it feels in the hands and looks. being cheaper in the long run and being better and lasting much longer are also major points but i might not be using a safety razor if it didnt feels to use it.

You're a great candidate for a Rockwell 6C. You already know how to use a safety razor for the most part and this razor will blow your mind away on how well it shaves and it's an adjustable razor. Rockwell Razors are some of the smoothest shaving Razors on the market today.@@user-rm7kb3il6x

Does the light weight compared to more conventional de razors make a positive difference?

It's definitely a preference thing more than affecting the shave. I typically like heavier razors, but the Henson is about my favorite razor. It's just takes a little getting used to if you use heavy razors. Some folks prefer aluminum razors.

    • @OhioShaves

The Henson is the easiest razor to use. The weight doesn’t matter to me because I’m used to using it. Some find it a learning curve because they press to hard when first starting out

Try using less pressure. I had this problem with it the first few shaves. It was so smooth that I didn't think it was cutting and put way too much pressure on it. Just play around with the pressure and you will get it down in no time.
