RUclips is something else. 30 years old and never learned how to do a thorough shave like this.
Many Gents much older than you have stated the same!
Yep. Geo taught me. I'm under 100 blades in and it's been 12 years since I bought a disposable razor. Saved hundreds so far
I feel like I started late and im 23, I was using the electric razers and it would take me forever. always thought the cartridges and the straight razer looked cool but the henson is my way of getting ahead
@@jamie114391 There’s guys starting this type of shaving in their 50s and 60s, so you’re doing great. I was about 24 when I started and I’m so glad that I did!
I was watching this thinking the same thing then I saw your comment 😂
That was a trip, man. I’m 38 years old and never have I been shown a proper shave as you just demonstrated. My mind is blown. It’s a shame everything is so fast paced. I thoroughly enjoyed slowing down and watching this video, imagining doing it myself. I’m looking forward to it. Great video, sir!
Came here to say exactly this. Even the age is the same lol
50M and I couldn't figure out why this razor wasn't working for me. I had no idea (and Henson doesn't tell us) that you need to take three passes. I was doing one pass and wondering why I felt like I had a five-o'clock shadow.
I’m blessed with one of those faces that looks ridiculous without beard. The downside is that I love to shave, so I’m shaving vicariously shaving through videos like this. This was a good shave.
I bought my henson a few months back, best razor I have ever used!
Literally you can't feel the blade at all..... And gives the closest shave. Feels almost impossible to cut yourself.
And the quality is second to none. Machined to such precise tolerance.... No movement or play, and the blade when put into the top cap can't move like it can on pins.
So no chance at all of anything other than a perfect reveal.
Literally this razor is perfect in every way.
The only thing that takes a little getting used to is its so light being machined aluminium, but after a few Shaves you just get used to it.
Thanks for sharing Jason!
Did you get the mild or medium?
@@forcedanonymity2500 Hi. Mine is the mild.
@@dirtydragon9 You appear to be watching the wrong video?
Least obvious Henson worker
Henson just hit a home run with this razor. I had my first shave with this today and it is stunning.
Nice to see you add the Henson to the store, heard great things about it over the year.
A very enjoyable shave...
I love mine. Got 1 for daily, 1 for my travel kit. I love this razor.
I just bought one myself. I love it! No more nicks and cuts!
Very nice, great to see something new, looks like a really nice razor, thank you Geo
My pleasure!
Geo appreciate you brother. Learned to shave from you years ago.
Great review, thanks.
Hi Geo- Great shave and razor review; thank you! This is a nice-looking razor. I hope you have a great weekend. Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, Geo!
Thanks Mike, Take care!
Nice! The way the head is shaped to automatically find the correct angle is an innovative feature. Great review Geo 👍
Thanks! Agreed. Ice. Man. 👍
Beautiful shave Geo, I love that it’s very precise, no messing with the blade alignment, very well engineered.
Deff good stuff RK!
Great review
I don't know why it is so fascinating to watch people shave...but it is. I've been watching you for years and really appreciate the videos. Bought my first Merkur many many years ago after watching some of your tutorial videos.
I appreciate that! Thanks for your long term support Mike!
Great shave and demo Geo💈💈 Nice looking razor, auto angle head should help some folks. TOBS is always a good choice. Hard to beat the T3 brush for the price. Nice clean no issue shave today, perfect. Great video and review, thanks. Enjoy!
Thanks Terry! This razor kind of makes it a no-brainer!
Just received mine from Shave Nation the day after this video was posted. Fantastic razor and the easiest DE I have ever used! Definitely boosts your confidence no matter your skill. Oh, and hands down you cannot beat the customer service from Geo and the crew at Shave Nation. Thanks again Geo for all you do.
Thanks for sharing! Greatly appreciated!
Man you are a fantastic salesman. Probably about to buy this.
Just bought it before viewing your video. Yep, it is worth the purchase. Wanted a super mild razor to add to my collection. Your videos are the best out there.
Thank you for your input and support Patrick!
Wow, you are a really really good shaver. I'm 54 and never heard north to south or across the grain before lol. Bravo!
Thank you sir I just ordered the mild version off your site. I will probably end up getting the medium version also soon
Henson was smart to choose the Astra's. Very high quality, economical blades. They say you can use any brand blade, but they designed it around the Astra's. I have the Leaf/Twig combo and I like it a lot. But I see myself buying a Henson. I really like the overall looks and design of the AL13.
Geo you is national treasure my guy keep up the good work 👍💯
Big Ups Ty!!!!💪
Considering that I absolutely suck at shaving, I'm always super jealous watching this guy get the closest shave in about 1/4 the time it takes me to shave 💀
It takes a lot for me too, probably about an hour LoL
He’s got the same face as me too.
Bony with a big nose and butt chin.
This guy’s good.
Concentrate on the art and spend a decent amount of energy while shaving. Do it only when you are feeling energetic. Think of it as a task that you have to do as fast as possible without compromising on safety.
I honestly had NO idea of such a superior method to shaving. Mind is officially blown. 🤯
Try it, you'll like it...
Great review!
Thanks!
Great review. I got a Henson AL13 mild a month ago for my introduction to DE shaving. It is the perfect razor for a beginner easy to use and very forgiving.
Couldn't agree more!
I've got a beard for about 10 years now, and I don't see it going off any time soon, but boy do I miss this feeling of a really good shave...
Its been a few months since I got my Henson. (mild version) So far I have no complaints with my intro to wet shaving 😎
I'm going to order it right now!
I love my medium version.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing.
i bought this. its coming in today! cant wait to shave with it!
So, how'd it go?
@@geofatboy perfect shave for me smooth and no irritation
I bought one of these recently. Been using it for about 2 months. I usually dry shave, and this is perfect.... and it will get your no-no bits smooth as eggs without major bleeding in the shower. When I can't use my Bismarck No 2 I use this. My only gripe is I want an etched edge that says 1 or 2. I'll probably etch it in myself.
Thumbs up for Geo 👍👍💪🏻
Thanks Amir!
Beautiful shave and Razor Uncle Geo ✌️✌️
Love it! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. I'm impressed with the design, I wonder why someone didn't think of it sooner. I was thinking this is a great razor for beginners, but also great for people who are traveling or on the run. It probably helps limit simple mistakes.
Right on all counts!
On the run? Elaborate lol
I just got one after never using a safety razor. Such a nice shave and no razor burn. I’m a little scared to go against the grain as I haven’t gotten the technique down but even just two passes with the grain and across is a great shave. But the areas I have tried against the grain it’s like I never had facial hair there for at least a full day
Great review
Got the AL13 medium myself.
Very easy to use, very forgiving and ideal for those new to DE shaving.
Just wish they were easier to buy here in the UK as I would love to get my hands on the titanium version.
Thanks for sharing! Great for Beginners!
We ship worldwide 6 days a week!
Damn, kinda want to order one of these now - looks good!
Don't be shy!
I have the new Henson razor not to long ago.
I love love it.
I don’t have any issues at all I don’t even cut or irritated anymore.
I can even shave my head without any issues curts or irritated anymore.
Nice! I'm glad you're now enjoying your head and face shaves!
I bought this 2 months ago, my first DE after 30 years using a twin blade cartridge. Good shave WTG, very good XTG, but ATG to get BBS, I end up with tons of weepers, mostly above and below the mouth. Your review makes it look so easy! Not sure if it's my cream, my blades (I've tried several though), my technique as a noob, or what.
Get a few more shaves under your belt and I bet your shave improves!
waiting for mine
I got the mild version and it's the cleanest shave I've ever had. Using Shark Platinums. I sort of wish I got the medium after watching reviews, but honestly I doubt it'd be that big of a difference. I'm the type of person to buff regardless. Maybe if Henson ever does a limited edition color I really like! For now I'll keep using it along side my La Criatura.
More nice work again.
Thanks Kewei!
Geo runs a great business. He does look a lot like the late, but great Lawrence Welk. 👍🏼👍🏼
The medium tan Henson was my first DE razor (bought last Sept). It's the perfect introduction to DE shaving, and the only razor I used for the first four months. RAD has kicked in since (I'm up to 13 razors now) but my Henson still gets regular use. A very enjoyable and easy to use razor!
Thanks for your input Keith!
what do you mean by RAD?
@@Kokonutzlz Razor Acquisition Disorder. I'm at 31 now. Got it bad!
Thank you from Switzerland, exactly what I wanted to ask... You bought this and you're still using it with pleasure and it's not of most other part of a collection.. 👍
I got one of these recently. It has become my favorite, but you need the right blades. The Astra blades they include are really great. I also like it with Mühle blades.
Thanks for sharing! Good stuff!
Is it going to work alright with plain gillette safety blades ?
@@simonmagnum7821 Only way to know is experiment. You can use any brand DE blade in it.
I have one of these. It's just as good as my Merkur Futur but it's so light it just glides like there's nothing there. The reveal is so small I do find it can be a little tricky to get the angle right, but it's certainly not a problem. It's expensive but definitely worth it.
Love to hear your impression of it-Thanks !
Interesting to me that more companies are getting into the wet shave razor business, Hanson, Parker, ikon, so many mor options daily! And all are after a better shave experience for new or beginner shavers. So Geo to keep this easy could you do a video on comparing the sharpness of different popular blades? From Feather down? Thanks for posting this video!
Thanks for your recommendation Bryan!
Wow! That's an interesting razor, made more interesting by our shaving hero Geo! God bless you. Regards, Dr. Basu( India)
Ha Ha! Good one!
@@geofatboy ❤️😀
Very very cool razor good stuff I think so.
Yes!
@@geofatboy Enjoy the shave Man
I love my AL13. The very first time I used it (converting from decades of cartridges) I got one tiny cut, but never again after that.
What a PRO!
@geofatboy I’ve been using an AL13 for about one month now. In my opinion it performs far better than the Merkur I had been using. The Henson is so effective that when I’m in a rush I can actually skip lathering up; just as long as I keep my face wet I can shave with the Henson without shaving soap or cream with no problems (if I try that with the Merkur I get skin irritation).
Interesting... I might have to try that some time. I'm looking to shaving with it a few more times with different blades.... Feather.
@@geofatboy Feather is your gold standard. I'm looking forward to hearing about it!
Hello Geo! Great that you tried the Henson, I bought one about 2 months ago, at first I was ‘meh..it’s ok’ (slant bars are my usual ‘go to’ razors) but I persisted with it and now, man I love it!! Really great one pass shaves, comfortable and no irritation.
I have one small issue, I really wanted the medium or more aggressive one, but couldn’t find it on the companies website so bought the mild one…when I enquired later they said something like ‘yeah we had a lot of mild stock to move, so to buy the other one you have to drill down in this other part of their website to find the med version’…almost like they wanted to direct customers towards the mild one and hid the med version….Kinda disappointed as I didn’t really get what I wanted. Might have to buy the med one from you Geo!!!
Hi Castor- Sorry that you were unable to get the one you really wanted. If you decide to go for it: bit.ly/HensonAL13RazorSN
That kind of sucks .. and is not customer friendly .. its an expensive razor . You should be able to get what you want
@@gmy33 yeah it kinda sucks, but the good news is it’s a really great razor (after a bit of a learning curve) even the mild one performs well on 3-4 day stubble. Definitely pairs well with Astra blades. Overall I’m very happy.
The pause before “nether regions” is amazing. Lmao.
Ive been having problems shaving my neck. Its like the grains grow in 4 directions all at once. Lol might have to try a pre shave
I like it I would really like to try to especially for my first DE since I was 17 or so but the price is a tad prohibitive at least for me. So I will most likely end up going with the Edwin Jagger DE89
A very popular razor!
I literally googled this video bc I love the Henson razor but I WAS cutting myself and I had to figure out that I didn’t really know how to shave properly with a single blade razor
This is a great tutorial!
Is this how you normally shave?
3 passes
First one with grain, north to south
Second one across the grain
Last one against the grain
Awesome video as always geo! Do you plan on adding the titanium Henson razor to your store when they make more?
Absolutely! As soon as we can get it, you will see it on the site!
I was about to recommend this razor to you, I love mine an extremely good razor from a new company
Rocca is pure ASMR. No other razor sings like Mühle Rocca.
Thanks for sharing Kevooo!
More ASMR than the R41?
@@geofatboy I think yes. I have had R41 and now I have R41 GS and I think Rocca sings better. Try it out ;)
Edit: But you have a Rocca review from 2018. I think that's V1 or V2 that you have there, there's now Version 4 of that head. First heads were Metal Injection Molded, now those are CNC'd.
Amazing review!
I bought the mild version, which also provides a close shave. Although it’s almost impossible to cut yourself with this razor I still get irritation because of my extremely sensitive skin.
Greetings from Europe
Agreed-Thanks!
Damn man and I thought I had sensitive skin. how long have you been shaving?
I also want to add, if you're skin is sensitive DO NOT SHAVE AGAINST THE GRAIN. Or if you have really angled hair follicles. I can't shave against the grain because it'll cut my skin all up.
@@CruelSun69 Thanks for the shaving tip! I suffer from pretty bad razor burn especially on my neck, so any tips are greatly appreciated, (been shaving for years) Even doing just 1 pass irritates my skin, and that's why I was looking into the henson. Thanks again. 👍🏾
Henson also sells the Ti22 Titanium which is a lot more expensive than the AL13 medium. The Titanium is available is mild, medium & aggressive. Would love to see you compared them.
As soon as they are available, we will have those too. Can't wait to try it.
I have the Medium from ShaveNation. It's my favorite. I like it more than my Feather AS-D2. Just find that angle and off comes the beard.
Thanks for sharing Jimi!
@@geofatboy You're welcome. I love your vids. Any chance you guys will be getting in the Titanium version?
Finally!something for the guys other than only for the ladies always
Great first DE razor - no need to worry about finding an angle. I find it shaves like a cartridge razor that has the benefit of using a $.10 blade - it has the same safety and lack of nicks and feels like a Mach 3 or a Harry's. That said, I do not like using it if I have two days or more of growth as it is so mild (I have the medium) that it is uncomfortable.
Sorry to say, I knicked myself with this DE razor today on my lower kneck somehow, of course it is my second time using it. Of course my kneck always bleeds a little when I shave anyways, even with the safety razors.
Looks like a great peace of kit. The wife is going to kick my head in if she finds out I'm gonna buy it 🤣.
Why ? 😂😂
@@amirhoseinsari5417 coz she can 🤣
Just do it. She’ll get over it!🤣
@@darinsnowden8365 that’s kinda addiction you can’t get it over, same as me 😂😂😂😂
As long as she’s not wearing steel capped boots mate. 🤣🤣🤣
Mine doesn't say just *AL 13* or *AL 13 MEDIUM,* it says *_AL 13 EN_* 😥 Wish i had known that there was an option for course hair b4 i bought it... oh well... We'll see soon!
i bought one a while back - had my 1st shave with it today (i've never really used safety razors before, only tried once or twice - never liked them) - I liked it!
(i used to use, exclusively the highest quality electrics but when my last one broke, i switched to disposables...mid range ones).... I feel like there will be a small learning curve, for me, with the Henson (especially since the angle in the mirror etc is a bit different to the thin heads i was used to. It seemed to be better where i left my face alone (NOT stretching the skin)....but i am not sure - it was at the very least just as good as my disposables. (Reminder - on my 1st time using).... [EDIT, i think mine is the standard (not medium) - i just noticed mine looks a bit different! - Mine is ONE "+", under the top/head-plate, yet it's one of the models with the wide gap 🤔🤔?? ]
I can’t wait spending all that time to shave 3 times every morning before work
Wish I was as quick as that
FYI, while watching this video there was a commercial By the Company that makes that razor. Kind of interesting the problem is people might order through them or not you and you will lose business just want to let you know love the videos thank you
That happens to me all the time.. It all comes out in the wash. They are paying for those ads as well. I put these videos up for free!
If you buy from Henson you have to pay S/H which was like $10 to my area. Free S/H from Geo if over $65.
Bought a Henson shaver and I love shaving with it. A well-made product, have not cut myself while shaving. The price of blades has gone down considerably, will never use a Gillette shaver again.
Awesome razor! I made my own Square handle for this razor and it is a massive improvement, very similar to a disposable. Really don't understand the round handles?
Yeah I'm going to buy this, I just don't know if I want the blue, black or tan. I wish I could see those side by side.
That one's your call!
Hi Geo nice video. Can you do a WCS Merica razor review thnx!?
Don't have that one...
I use a Gillette MkIII and go through one blade about every 4-6 months. The problem is that people don't know how to take care of their razors. After shaving just rinse everything from the blades then run the blades crossways through the piles of a towel to dry them completely. Store your razor in a drawer where moisture won't get to it. It is the moisture that corrodes the edge of the blade and makes it dull. .
I got one a few weeks ago. It's my first safety razor and it definitely feels way different from my old Gillette razor. I'm still experimenting with different brand blades to find something that doesn't nick me.
and? do you still like it? found better ones?
@@ohnewerbung9601 I still use it and like it.
Ok Geo. This, or the R89 Twist? If you had to keep one for daily shaving...which would it be if price wasn't a factor?
Currently have a Merkur 34c that I love. Do either of the Henson's compare and would you say it is comparable or superior to the 34c? Thank you.
The Henson AL-13 is my favorite razor and the one I would pick for a desert island (hopefully the blades come in on the tides ;-). Great shave with a Feather Blade, so close. I do find that it shaves so close and smooth that it removes my lather so I have to be careful to not go over the same area again after I’ve run the razor over the area which is something i can do with other razors and soap with residual slickness.
Good choice! I'll be trying it with a Feather blade on my next shave!
@@geofatboy Love your channel and have been very grateful for you and other wet shave enthusiasts and vendors with all the great tips and reviews! Keep up the great work. I’m a life long customer. I spread out my purchases among all you awesome wet shave vendors. Thanks again for the great review.
Maybe try it using HeadSlick.
No problem getting close under the nose? That’s why I love my stainless Feather but I’ve been interested in this shaver for a while.
It's a beaut!
Hi bro. Please make a video on comparision between hension AL13 razor and king c Gillette.
Thanks Pat!
I got an ad for this razor but why is no one talking about it?
You're talking about it, I'm talking about it.... I'm sure others are talking about it too.
Awesome Geo! I had a question for you that you might be able to answer. I can find where the safety bar, top cap, and blade all come together when trying on the back of my phone, but when it comes to my face, it's a different story. Is there a way you could show that in a video?
Have a great weekend!
Matthew
Sure Can! ruclips.net/video/U46nNSfoSAY/видео.html
Damn I got so many really nice razors as it is, I definitely don’t need another one. The precision of this one though, very impressive. Here take some more of my money.😂
Just can’t let myself get the titanium one. I’m going to have to put my razor collection in my will.
It is a great design...
and what would you now say about it?
Would you recommend or do you know of a better shaver ?
Used my Henson AL13 medium with all the other supplies I ordered to get set up with my new safety razor shaving routine today. Great Shave! I must say, the customer service was spectacular from Shave nation! I could not be more pleased with what I bought. All my purchases were researched through your youtube.com channel. geofatboy does a great job explaining all products! I look forward to many more purchases from Shave Nation!!
Thanks very much Mike! Your support and positive comments are greatly appreciated!
I use and am happy with a Rockwell 3 head razor - I prefer it on #3 setting. Which Henson razor do you think matches the #3 Rockwell setting I prefer - the mild or the medium? Thanks.
Replacing my merkur 180 long handle with this.
This looks great! Do you think this would be good to shave your head with?
Yes, definitely
Check out Mark Szorady's head shave video using the Henson Mild.
How would it compare to a Merkur Long Handle?
I haven't found anything that shaves quite as well but this looks like a contestant
Better than Wilkinson sword classic? ( One with "butterfly" opening)

Such a high quality mild razor! The mild has allowed me to shave my head daily with no irritation, love it!
@@robinsharkey6658 Awesome! I just bought the Mild version specifically for the ability to head shave daily or even as far out as 1-3 days. This comment is exactly what I was looking for from a fellow head shaver. Thanks!
Shaving newb here with a question. Isn't it bad to shave against the grain? Don't you risk ingrown hairs?
If anyone read my comments re WONDERING WHY MINE LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN ALL THE PROMOTIONAL IMAGES etc, I got a reply from Henson:
This is because we recently added enhancements to our razor. The gap was always the same, the difference is we removed the end gaps to allow for easier clearing of hair. There was a false end before which made it seem less aggressive, however it was the same. If you look closely at some of your images, you can see this little piece of material. It does not at all affect the actual aggressiveness of the razor.
We hope this makes sense! I will attach the full list of our enhancements below that if comparing you can see visually are different as well.
______________
The design team weighed both customer feedback and test results, to introduce several enhancements to both the AL13 and Ti22 razors.
Increased grip
The overall diameter of the handle has been increased by 0.010”. Also, the textured portions of the handle have been made more pronounced. Both of these changes improve overall grip and handling of the razor.
Reshaped channels
The lather channels in the baseplate have been reshaped and the centre webs of the lather slots have removed, resulting in improved hair and lather evacuation.
Softened edges and added bevels
The edges of the baseplate and top cap have been softened in an effort to reduce any unwanted sharpness from the outer edges and corners of the razor head. Also, a large bevel has been added to the outer corners of the razor head. These changes improve comfort, control, and precision during shaving, especially when maneuvering around obstacles, such as next to the nose and mouth.
Removed end posts
The small posts at the ends of the blade gap have been removed from the baseplate. One resulting benefit of this is that the very ends of the razor blades edge are able to perform better. Also, since the shape of the lather channel is now completely through the razor head, rinsing of the razor is improved.
Added razor head grip
Indents have been added at the ends of the razor head to assist with gripping the head for assembly and disassembly for blade changes, cleaning, etc.
Chip groove
A small notch has been added to the top of the top cap threaded post to help keep the threads clean and free of debris.
All the best,
Danyel
Henson Shaving
It's quite the laundry list!
Thank you Geo. Positive or negative exposure¿?
Blade reveal?
Get some.
Got some
I have a question, I almost always get pimples and irritated skin after I shave (I really don't have much beard, only a little on the beard and mustache), I was considering buying it. Is it a good buy for me with that small amount of hair, and how is the feel the days after ? Thanks
Which of the two models are you shaving with. The Astra blades are known to be very sharp, it would be better if you shaved with same blade say for the sixth time.
Hey have you ever used the yaqi katana single edge razor its really good!! For me at least lolz
