His art also caught my eye. I was in high school and bought my comics at a bookstore here in Ohio called Readmore. I looked up on the rack and saw the Moon Knight title covers and was stunned. I've collected his art since.
The man is not just a living tornado of an artist, he's a genuinely good, kind, thoughtful man whose presence of that goodness comes from a hard knock life growing up. He takes no shit, but a living legend master of his craft who backs it up with integrity.
Great topic/choice for a video. There are a lot of excellent artists out there who got overshadowed by some of the greats. There are some great books and artists out there that get no attention because they aren’t major keys. Nice job 👍🏼
As I watch through your video catalogue I see two significant things over and over again. 1. Your videos are always interesting to watch, well done and on point! 2. Your tastes in comics and comic artists are in every instance so far, one to one with my own comic book tastes and preferences! Keep up the great work Nick, I’m a big fan of your RUclips channel!
Bill Sienkiewicz is definitely my favourite artist. Love seeing how his style evolved from Moon Knight, to the New Mutants and then Elektra Assassin and Daredevil Love and War. His works are always oozing of personality and his unique style. Whenever I read any of his works, it never seizes to impress me. He's by far the best artist to work on the New Muties. Great video by the way.
Absolutely love him, can stare at his stuff for hours true art. When I was very young I did not get it and was very put off by his style now like I said I just wish he did more!
I remember LOVING the Moon Knight series upon it's initial release, my first exposure to Sienkiewicz, as indeed I think it was just about everyone's first exposure to him. I also remember being frustrated when the book went "direct-sales only", as I didn't have a comic shop convenient to me. His blatant rip of Neal Adams' style was the original hook....but we all know it didn't take him long to cultivate his own AWESOME style with painting. Great video, Nick...!!
Wow, you've got some really beautiful books. Pristine especially those all-black covers. Very enjoyable video, brings me back to when I was collecting Moon Knight and later New Mutants. I agree, Sienkiwicz is stunning. I'm a bit surprised you didn't show his work on MK#26 "Hit it" which was the first time he really let loose on any comic ever. I also thought his MK issues featuring Stained Glass Scarlet 14 and 24 were very beautiful. You've got a great soothing voice - kind of reminds me of Bob Ross the painter. I'll be checking more of these videos out. Very relaxing discussion of all things comics. Looking forward to the one on John Byrne. Thanks.
thanks! I am glad you enjoyed the vid. Bob Ross! now that is one guy I grew up watching on PBS :) I should have brought on MK 26. The earlier artist spotlights weren't well plan at all but I think I got better in the past few years.
Awesome nick, awesome! So glad you did this video. I just started collecting his New Mutants run. I'd also like to get the illustrated Jimi Hendrix biography - I've seen high-resolution interior pages from it and I think it might be the most stunning work Bill has ever done. I hope I get a chance to meet him at a con someday. I'll probably be the only one who asks him to sketch Dazzler, lol.
Actually, Mehdi, I don't think I've ever explained why I'm fascinated by Dazzler. You've given me something to ponder, and possibly a topic for a future video.
Loved his moon knight art, & on" new mutants"-that's why i got the artist edition. Not so much his art on" new mutants:war children." Special Big dispointment for me.
Sienkiewicz did the cover art for this album by my friends' band, Soilent Green, Nick. Check it out: f4.bcbits.com/img/a3083123852_10.jpg I was the roadie for the band during the period when they were working on that album, & we were all very excited that he was going to do the art. He wanted $10,000 at first. lol! The record label talked him down to $2,500. Anyway, I think he did a great job & deserves to be paid well. I have at least a handful of his comics. I recently started collecting again & ran across your channel in the process. I absolutely love it. Keep up the great work!
you are welcome! for those not familiar with Jimmy Hendrix biography, check out this link I provided above..simply stunning. He is just fantastic. If I have another opportunity to get a sketch, it would be Batman. I tried but a deal for the Batman sketch fell thru.
Nah. His art style didn't move me at all. He ruined the New Mutants run for me. I thought his style didn't fit the New Mutants because Buscema and McCleod had started out with a more defined, conventional style. When I saw Sienkiewicz on issue 18 I thought to myself. Nooooo! What is this??? But I kinda liked his work on Moon Knight.
I finally figured out why many of my long videos got cut off in the end...now that I know, it won't happen again....the last 10 seconds were cut off...no biggie this time...less rambling from me :)

for sure it was love at first sight for me with his art style
YES! All I can say... Top 3 favs for me...
Oh no! Video stops before the end :( Beauuuutiful drawing! Awesomeawesomeawesome...

Sienkiewicz.. SEN KEV ITCH is how you pronounce it..🙏🏻 and yes he's an awesome brilliant artist.

thanks..I am glad you enjoy the channel...plenty ....LOL..too many vids for most to go thru.
He started off as a Neal Adams clone/imitator and then took a hard left turn and became something only similarly related.

Great video, Nick...!!
I like the experimental, "sketchy" feel of his artwork, and that Wolverine: WOW!!! thanks for the Video.
Great sketch you got there. Moon Knight 24 is my favorite Sienkiewicz cover.
My favorite artist as well, Mark Teixeira, Sam Keith and Dave Mckean as well.

indeed...it is rare to run into a dazzler fan...rarer than an Bill Sienkiewicz fan for sure...lol

Hey Brian, do you tell about your fascination with Dazzler on your channel? I'm also a big fan of Sienkiewicz...
