Hi - I visited the same three on my last trip. Fell in love with a ‘56 Martin D28 at Carter’s. Walter is a cool guy. Health warning: you do need to know what you are doing as the values connected with these guitars constitute a life times savings.😃
My favorite part about this video is the reactions to the prices. I was the same way at Carter’s. I think 40% of the guitars I played that day cost more than my car
If a guitar player, I mean a REAL guitar player, can't get a great sound out of a $3,500 PRS or $1,200 Strat or Tele etc. then there's something wrong. I simply don't buy into the "if it's old and costs a zillion dollars it has to sound better" mindset. Same with old amps.
That thing she does on the Gretsch, just thumbing E and A for bass, then the upper string melody is so simple, musical and beautiful. Love that meditative vibe.
Vacationed in Nashville a few months before COVID hit. Went to Gruhn and Carter. Rumble Seat was closed :( I found Carter to be absolutely mind blowing.
@Mark Swarbrick - She's a bit 'home counties', there's probably only a few million women with that voice. Still, its better than 'Estuary English', Birmingham or Newcastle!
Several of Ed King(Lynyrd Skynyrd) guitars are at carters, he frequented their quite a bit. The 1973 Stratocaster he used to write and record Sweet Home Alabama is for sale their as well. Miss Ed, he was an old freind
Very cool. Every year or so I make sure I make a pilgrimage to Nashville to visit Gruhn Guitars and Carter Vintage (and to Third Man Records too). Glad you got a chance to check them out.
Love this! Tasteful playing and it gave me flashbacks when I was roaming Nashville guitar shops for a new strat. Ended up at Corner Music and bought a G&L Legacy which I LOOOVE ❤️
My first guitar trip to Nashville, I visited those same three stores in that same order. All three were amazing-the vibe is completely different at all three, and as a newish electric guitar player at the time I felt welcome at all of them. Carter’s-couldn’t believe they let everybody pick up all that stuff; Gruhn was a little more reverent toward the instruments, but still welcoming; and Rumble Seat-man, those guys were just cool as shit-pointing out things and the history behind it all…as much like museum guides as sales people…and more than willing to spend time with someone who they probably knew couldn’t buy anything vintage. It was during the pandemic ‘opening-up phase one’, so maybe all three stores were happy to have folks back in; but they couldn’t have been more generous with their time.
We went to all three a month or two ago. Rumbleseat was definitely the coolest. The people there were awesome. I don't remember the guy's name (It wasn't Eliot) but he took us right in and showed us all of the cool stuff they had. Almost like a curator, instead of a sales guy. We could have spent hours there and they wouldn't have minded a bit. The other two felt like just about any other guitar store I've ever been in. We also went to the Gibson Cafe (?) It was OK. Pretty much what I thought a Gibson factory store to be. The guitars floating around the perimeter of the ceiling on hangers above your head is definitely something to see.
Little late on my response/comment but just came across your video visiting Nashville guitar stores. I visited Gruhn and Carter's two years ago with my good friend and brother-in-law Bob and spent over 3 hours in each store. Each guitar we picked up was better than the last. So enjoyed our time there and was shelled shocked with the prices on guitars that we could have bought years ago for a couple hundred dollars. If we had only known. Great video and keep up the fantastic work.
Hi Mary I love when you go to guitar stores and try guitars out. I live a couple of states away from Nashville in Ohio dream of going there one day! I’ve been to the Rock Hall 20+ times you’d love it! Your the greatest! Keep writing and rocking!!!!
Hi Mary, I discovered you in the video of Sultans of swing with Leo. In fact, I discovered both of you at the same time. I really want to say that you really seem to be a fantastc person. I watched a lot of your vlogs, you really seem to be genuine. I like your laugh, and being a French Canadian, I must say your accent is pretty charming. I'll continue follow you in your adventure, thanks for being Mary Spender xx
I've been downtown and watched new guitars get pieced together, but there's just something about that old hardware you can't build into a new piece. Love those "pre-loved" instruments. Welcome to our humble area, hope you enjoyed yourself :)
Carter Vintage guitars is a great store with great people working there. Unfortunately did not have time to visit the other two when I was in Nashville. Next time will definitely visit all 3.
starting watching these videos cause of the guitar and gear talk. stayed on because of Mary's charm and love the original pieces that she put on the demos.
Cool video - I have always wondered what the vintage guitar stores were like there -but never followed up on it. Nashville would seem to have the right pool of talent, income and need for such expensive and desirable instruments. Thanks!
Nashville is by far one of my all time favorite cities. Carter's is my favorite shop out there, with a close second being Fannie's House of Music. If you are a guitar player both places are definitely worth making a pilgrimage to!
This was fun to watch. I had a visit to Guitar Guitar in Glasgow last week and was kicking myself for not filming anything. I always feel so reserved in shops though, any shops, not just guitar ones. I'd love to have your confidence in asking to film and just going for it.
Well Mary, I guess you are officially famous now. I was wearing my Chewsday Tawks shirt this past weekend and a random lady told me “I love Mary Spender!”
You treated that L7 way too nice. They really start to get their voice, when you start to dig into them, like Zack was doing to that guitar at Gruhn's. Good stuff. Nashville is always a great place to be.
Nashville is my dream vacation. I'll just have to save up a cool $13k+ because I know I'll fall in love with some old beat up guitar in one of those stores. Thank you for this video, Mary. It was a real treat to see :)
I love that you looked around while playing the intro to Duelling Banjos, expecting someone to strike you over the head with an old, solid body Les Paul.
Many thanks for uploading this! Visiting Nashville myself next month, and definitely looking for a few guitar stores to check out; this helps me choose 🎸😎
Those are three great places. My daughter and I just hit all three looking for her a vintage Gibson acoustic. The people were awesome to deal with in all three of them.
First "in-the-wood" Fender I ever saw, was a brand new Esquire Custom, in cherry sunburst, around 1959. IT WAS GORGEOUS. Girl ... you gotta nice voice and sing REAL fine, playing that Catastraster ... '62? Guitar prices are atrociously outrageous. You can thank the Japanese for that. That Gretsch is the bees knees. Did I tell you I love your singin'? Guitar playing pretty nice too! Thanks for the tooor!
I did the same tour last year. Really liked Carters and Gruhn. Played a 57 strat at Gruhn’s that was beat to death but had a great feeling v shaped neck. Should have bought the 1913 Gibson mandolin for a 1000$
I visited Gruhn about 18 months ago, Nashville as a whole was great fun, shame I was only there for 3 days as we were doing a road trip from New Orleans - Nashville - Memphis and back to NOLA. Would highly recommend avoiding the hotel we stayed in though!
My favorite was Mary playing the Atkins Gretch. Both full and sweet. Although I really believe that Mary is in her sweet spot when she plays the acoustic.
7:30 Best sounding guitar in the whole place! That thing is gorgeous, and what better way to show off the tonal quality than to have you demo it. They should hire you on as an advertising rep, Mary! Well done!😍😁🎵🎶👍👍
I love going to Carter Vintage Guitars. Haven't bought much from there (lefty and don't have a lot of extra money), but they always have some really cool gear there.
I loved the avatar smile that appeared as the first video of the first row to watch (as selected by youtube): It delivers the following proposition "It is clearly important for you to know that I clearly know how important it is for you to know that I know that even though you want all the potency that was spent on the articulation of the puppretized half-smile has not exhausted what it promises it is unquestionable that case of the denotable "x" that lies behind it, and (conjunction) that being the case I will in no way proceed to deliver an oz of the vibrations that cannot be denoted out fo existence no matter how many times you ask me every time you do not address me"

Jepp, just fell in love also...
Vacationed in Nashville a few months before COVID hit. Went to Gruhn and Carter. Rumble Seat was closed :( I found Carter to be absolutely mind blowing.
You have such a beautiful warm singing voice! Never heard you sing before till now.
I am in awe of the Sultan's of Swing on the banjo...thanks Mary!!!!
I've been to Carter's on a couple of occasions when I was in Nashville. It's a great guitar store.
Carters was my favorite! They had the greatest employees and selection!
Your not only a breath of fresh air, and a beauty, but a wonderful person to listen to
Mary, every thing you touch is wonderful
"Hi, I'm Mary Spender and I have the greatest speaking voice on RUclips."
bernard_hossmoto her accent his too British, but her voice I beautiful
@@carminemartino1197 I love her English accent.
@Mark Swarbrick Oh dear oh dear.......you sad twat.
I'm with ya. The English accent is just fabulous :D
@Mark Swarbrick - She's a bit 'home counties', there's probably only a few million women with that voice. Still, its better than 'Estuary English', Birmingham or Newcastle!

Thank you for the tour. Very nice displays.

'There' -- Your local spelling nazi
Whoops, I done goofed
Your playing really came alive on that old red gretch guitar. Could really feel the emotion pouring out in your playing!
Oh Boy .. just hanging out in Nashville .. & all those guitars .. I hope you have a wonder full summer ..
Im glad you are getting Taking Shape back in the mix of background music. Love that song!
Very cool. Every year or so I make sure I make a pilgrimage to Nashville to visit Gruhn Guitars and Carter Vintage (and to Third Man Records too). Glad you got a chance to check them out.
Carters is my favorite! The crew there are awsesome too!
Got to Carters back in Feb 2020 all the way from Ireland and it just blew my mind.... Nashville was fantastic and can't wait to go back!
Those shops are so fun. I have not been to Nashville since 2015. I need to go again.
Nashville is great! I lived there for a few years. I'm only two hours away now and still go back to instrument shop. So many good shops there.
Thank you for sharing your visit to these 3 way cool shops! I’m a big fan of Carter’s, mostly because I bought my Vibro King there.
Hi Mary, great video, now I have to go Nashville again and check out the vintage guitar stores.

My hometown! Thanks for visiting!
Mary you are fan-freaking-tastic. I could listen to you play and sing all day long.

A 61 dot 335 is my holy grail for sure.
Yep, agreed - 61 dot.
61 dot.........had one. Reluctantly gave it up. Fools game :)
In #tillyburst 😉
Hey Mary, I just recently discovered your channel and really enjoy your videos and your music a lot. Keep up the great work!
Greetings from Germany!
Noel Fielding doing his day job at Rumble Seat Music.
Nice! It’s always fun to tour the guitar stores.
"Dueling" is the banjo's "Stairway", I think.
Nice video, Nashville is so much fun! You need to go back for Summer NAMM!!!!
Would love to see titles for each of the guitars that you show or are playing. I'm not a guitar person but love watching these visits to stores.
I enjoyed my visit to gruhns a few years back .nice staff
Great video. Carter Vintage is a must when I am in town. Got to get my hands on that Esquire! Keep up the great work, Mary.

The banjo, that where i found your (and Leo's)channel. All ready over a year ago. And stil enjoying them both.
That was my introduction to Mary Spencer....sultends of swing
you lucky, lucky girl !! what fun, seems like a great vacation day for me !!
Cool video - I have always wondered what the vintage guitar stores were like there -but never followed up on it. Nashville would seem to have the right pool of talent, income and need for such expensive and desirable instruments. Thanks!
The Gretsch was surprising! ...love that one. ... also been to Gruhn's a couple of times. They always have some mind-blowers.

The Collings paired nicely with your style. Thanks Mary!
I'll be in Nashville in 2 weeks, thanks for the video. Can't wait!

Thomas Chumley, nice? What continent? 😉
I miss living close enough to Nashville to day-trip to these shops. (Also, RIP Rock Block Guitars.)
Great look inside this peculiar part of Nashville
Love Carter Vintage! So many incredible guitars!!!
You gotta love it when Mary only has eyes for the mayer amps and entirely misses the Dumble ODS just to the left of them.
I have been to Gruhn’s several times
Old building downtown and new one. It is wonderful and overwhelming.
You treated that L7 way too nice. They really start to get their voice, when you start to dig into them, like Zack was doing to that guitar at Gruhn's.
Good stuff. Nashville is always a great place to be.
You play that Sultans Of Swing riff really well. You should consider doing a duet of it with someone.
She did the whole song with frogleap studios on youtube ..its awesome
Irony fail.
@@PaulInPorirua bahahaha just what I was thinking 🤣
John Wescott Damn no one got this joke.
Playing Dixie on a banjo...classic! Super fun video Mary!
Nashville is my dream vacation. I'll just have to save up a cool $13k+ because I know I'll fall in love with some old beat up guitar in one of those stores. Thank you for this video, Mary. It was a real treat to see :)

I was hoping someone would respond. That would have been hilarious! Banjo vs electric
The tone on that Gretch!
Thanks Mary love this
Was at rumble seat and gruhn a couple of months ago, somehow missed carter’s. Played a 60s strat, 50s d28, then went to the opry... heaven!
Love the video, the more classical store layout looked awesome!
Mary you have a lovely touch on a guitar, quite amazing!
Love that town! Just bought my new favorite guitar from Carter's
Many thanks for uploading this! Visiting Nashville myself next month, and definitely looking for a few guitar stores to check out; this helps me choose 🎸😎
I love all of your videos. I look forward to each one. You are very talented. Thank you.
Excellent video, Mary
Those are three great places. My daughter and I just hit all three looking for her a vintage Gibson acoustic. The people were awesome to deal with in all three of them.
I never realized how great your voice is.
Three of the best guitar stores in the world, not just Nashville! Zach sold me a PRS at Carter a couple of years ago.
i've visited Gruhn. it's Mecca. when i die, i want to spend eternity at Gruhn Guitars!
First "in-the-wood" Fender I ever saw, was a brand new Esquire Custom, in cherry sunburst, around 1959. IT WAS GORGEOUS. I have yet to visit Rumbleseat, but I do want that short hair EVH cardboard cutout.
I've made offers they won't sell it
I pre-ordered a new Gibson ES-235 a week ago, and they moved ES production so it's coming from Nashville. Can't wait!
Great vid as usual Mary!
Ur smile is infectious!!!!.......have a great day!!!!
Welcome to Nashville glad to have such a great person visit us here. That banjo fits you ;-)
I was just in Carter Vintage for the first time ever this past Saturday (May 11). Never made it there back when I lived in Murfreesboro.
I nearly teared up when you played the Gretch! I've been to Carter's a few times! You should do a Nashville meetup next time!
Playing Duelling Banjos is one way to clear the store. 🤣🤣
There are no winners in that duel.
Banjo plays D.B.; guitar playing _Freebird_ .... (better than Stairway to Gilligan's Island...)
I don't even play guitar but I like to listen to Mary Spender talk about them.
Rumble Seat Music is incredible! Lots of vintage guitars to drool over
Oh, I want that Gretsch!!!! Such a great tone!
My favorite was Mary playing the Atkins Gretch. Both full and sweet. Although I really believe that Mary is in her sweet spot when she plays the acoustic.
Lots of Authentic Guitars.
That's What They Did in these Nashville Guitar Stores and I Heard "Sultans of Swing" as Well.

Wish I knew your were in town. I live just outside of Nashville. Come back for summer NAMM..
I love this store videos but we need some light on bass guitars as well :D I love your voice, keep rocking
