    A thing about the BC:
    The Battlecruiser’s ATX Laser Battery does in fact fire while moving. It’s one of the arguments for Special Ordnance because you don’t have to stop to attack and you can easily dodge the Xanthos’ missile battery/laser blasts as a result, only stopping to Yamato. Considering that the Xanthos is comprised of multiple parts when on the attack as well, there’s a merit to giving special ordnance to BCs(the other being that Ordnance is not at all good on any of the other units)

      Special Ordinance on the Raven is useful only on Endgame, and since it's quite a slog you can get a bunch of Ravens to burst down each Xanthos weapon part while only taking chip damage (because you'd be scanning to pick off the fighter bay first). Endgame is all Terran, so they mostly don't run into melee range to fight (Hellbats are too slow to matter).
      The Ravens aren't the support of your army in this case - *they* are your army. And I believe it would be A tier against the Xanthos.
      Dark Skies has Zealots, though, so it's D tier there. You'd be better off building Tanks/Liberators/BCs, with maybe a couple of parked SCVs for repairs.

    I honestly see special ordnance on raven as a fine choice. But only if you're willing to pay that microcontrol tax: with this upgrade raven requires even more attention than the base counterpart. But it has a benefit of dealing pretty significant damage to any target. Frankly, this upgrade could really use a "cease fire" option.

    Nova Covert Ops for me is like the best campaign… mechanically. Gameplay-wise.
    Holy god the story is so not great, but it’s just fun to play in no small part because of this module system, it’s so much fun and creates so many distinct little variable dynamics in the gameplay and with Nova’s upgrades being far less boring than Kerrigan in hots where you only use her in one way despite having different paths. I wish they hadn’t just stopped making campaigns after Nova, they were on the path to really perfecting the singleplayer format in this game.

    • @stylesrj

      @@huitzil2389 Heart of the Swarm has a better story than Nova Covert Ops… I’m not saying hots is like particularly good, but Nova is less than that. Even on the strength of Kerrigan as a protagonist alone over Nova it’s day and night, but so much else factors into it as well. Like Reigel is really boring, the politics of it aren’t even like especially interesting, it’s like you just take SC1 Terran Campaign and take out all the hard hitting stuff. I mean Nova’s only real saving grace is Alarak showing up here and there just to be Alarak because him and the Tal’Darim have more personality than all the other factions combined. Frankly Davis should have been the secondary antagonist and Alarak the main, which speaking of, Davis is really boring, just a Mengsk dick-rider.
      Whereas Hots, it has like the ominous Amon stuff, Kerrigan has lots of strong personal motivations that are easy to get behind and she’s captivatingly intense about it all, Zagara and Abathur are fun, you have Jim for a bit, Mengsk is deliciously evil, it has some phenomenal cutscenes.
      Just saying, one is clearly better, but we’re not talking about masterpieces here. Legacy and Wings are way better.

      @@The_Story_Of_Us HOTS is literally Blizzard's lowest point in writing ever. It is their rock-bottom. I would like to have seen some kind of analysis on how you would recommend distributing the upgrades. Like, you have regenerative biosteel as the only above-average upgrade on both the Banshee and the Battlecruiser, so I'd like to know which you think it is better on and what you would put on the other one.
    Your analysis of the Raven was really interesting to me. I always thought that spider mines on Raven were awful because they cost energy, so every cast took away chances to cast other abilities in addition to taking away the free spider mines from your siege tanks (or reapers). And I didn't even know the Raven autoattacks dealt friendly fire damage even though I've picked that upgrade every time, because in the last few missions just about every battle is ranged units vs. ranged units. As long as you don't build hellbats and aren't careless around enemy zealots, I don't see why a Raven would fire near your own forces. And the main thing that makes the autoattack nice in my opinion is it means you can attack move the ravens together with the rest of your army without having to worry about the ravens running ahead of everyone else and dying.

    About ATX batteries - thing is, it is NOT lowering the anti-ground single damage potential (it is still 8 damage without any upgrades), but you are able to fire at 4 extra targets, which en masse just DELETES any attack waves.
    And BCs actually can fire while moving in NCO, which gives that upgrade even more reason to be chosen over regenerative biosteel. It might be worse in a long, strategical sense, but it's a godsend on tactical level.

    • @grandthieflupingames3470
      @grandthieflupingames3470 2 года назад

      Completely agree, and I actually think regen biosteel on battlecruisers are slightly overrated, because you’ll be teleporting them back to your base when they’re low anyway, so why not just leave a couple SCVs idle to repair? It’s still very good by saving you a ton of gas repairing but not as great as Grant said because the argument he made (in that teleporting low BCs out of combat and let it heal) can be done with resources and some SCVs as I just mentioned

    • @GerMorden
      @GerMorden 2 года назад +1

      @@grandthieflupingames3470 well... Not really. Cheap and fast off-combat regen makes the 8th mission a breathe, as you can keep your BCs in shape without pulling them too far from the frontline or putting your SCVs at risk.
      However, stacked ATX batteries will help to greatly reduce the pressure that is taken on the BCs as well, though their repairs is going to be far more slower and annoying.

    I guess the main advantage of the internalized tech module isn't getting out more units for the same amount of time, but rather getting those few units out in roughly half the time, though i still would not say that it is worth it, unless you want to be hyper aggressive and want to strike with those units before you usually could.

  • @Whitecroc
    @Whitecroc 6 месяцев назад

    Internal Tech Module has one advantage aside from letting you use Reactor with that unit: it lets you build it baseline. If you just want a couple of Ravens or a few Siege Tanks to beef up your defenses you can do that without having to gum up your build order. You can go straight to Reactor for Goliaths or Banshees and then just drop the de-teched unit into the build queue as needed.

It is pretty useful against the few Zerg vs Zerg matchups in the campaign since the only other good anti-zergling you have is Kerrigan and banelings and you don’t always have banelings on hand. If special ordnance for reaper allowed them to attack air, that would easily bump it to at least C tier, maybe B tier imo.
    Also, magrail munitions is really good in a bunker. I like to stick it on marines and slap em in a bunker, then the ability will be ready for nearly every attack wave that comes for the bunkers. I only do this if I'm gonna use a different unit to complete the mission and leave the bunkers at base to defend. It's very situationally good though and I forget the mission I found it very useful on.

  • @grandthieflupingames3470
    @grandthieflupingames3470 2 года назад

    Great stuff as always but you’ve got a couple things wrong on BC special ordinance, since it actually allows BCs to attack while moving and it is good.
    Also, regen bio steel on BCs are more like a huge economy bonus than survivability bonus, since you teleport your almost-dead BCs back to your base regardless what upgrade you get them, and it’s not hard to leave a couple SCVs there idle to repair them back, so you only save resource on repairing
    But in the first mission you get the BC, if you have regen on you can leave a couple BCs on lanes to help defend and not needing to check their health in between fights is nice
    But still I think being able to attack while moving is better

    As a scrub, Goliath+biosteel is my basic comp, it's like a marine medic deathball but bigger and stronker. You can just A-move anything, and if you have APM micro back injured ones, if not they still live longer and the whole group heals to full after every encounter

  • @roshango125ab

    OK grant I need to protest for a minute here. The special ordinance Raven is op if you mirco correctly. It's how I beat the final mission on brutal. The Zanthos couldn't react because the Ravens just hit an run once I got a death ball going. One volley kills a subsystem. You don't splash it into an army, it instead needs to act as it's own group.

    • @DanStaal

      But how does the special ordinance help with that? You could just micro in and fire off the same missiles manually without it - in fact they are *more* likely to do damage since you'll be manually targeting them.

    what's interesting is if we go off of your tier list, what you end up with, based on if you want to spread your upgrade power or concentrate it;
    if you go by most power, it's-
    marines, super stim S
    reaper, special ordinance D
    marauder, magrail munitions B
    siege tank, jump jets B
    hellion, smart servos C
    goliath, laser targeting system A
    banshee, internal tech module B
    liberator, cloak A
    raven, spider mines A
    battlecruiser, regenerative bio-steel A
    optimized logistics not used
    pretty good line up, esp if you don't use reaper/hellion.
    if you go by trying to spread power, the set up is similar but different-
    marines, optimized logistics B
    reaper, cloak B
    marauder, magrail munitions B
    siege tank, jump jets B
    hellion, super stim B
    goliath, laser targeting system A
    banshee, special ordinance B
    liberator, smart servos B
    raven, spider mines A
    battlecruiser, regenerative bio-steel A
    internal tech module not used
    while some things get weaker in this line up, there aren't any too bad units.
    interesting contrast.

    Welp, I'd say that Marines with super stim, Gols with optics are defo S tier, Tanks with biosteel also, until BCs are available, then they take biosteel and S tier too. Marauder with magrail (if you target fire them), and Libs with cloak, are solid A tier, Raven and Banshee can take whatever, they're B, unless you explicitly tailor around air, then with biosteel mines, could be B+/A, then Reaper after the Horner base defence and Hellion are just deep D

    I know you said you don't like the vision/range module on the Reaper, but it works from inside bunkers.
    Are there any units that have exactly 1 more range than a bunker Reaper that attack you?
    If that happens it becomes real good.

    • @john-db9qc
      @john-db9qc Год назад +2

      The main issue is that reapers can't hit air so the range doesn't matter. Broods are usually what ghosts in a bunker (ghosts do basicly what your saying in wings) are for. Theres not many missions where bunkers are beneficial to build anyways so it still doesn't provide much of a benefit

    I would put Biosteel on Banshees as a B simply because I don't find they survive combat on low health much. Between their paper hulls, flying, cloak and their damage output, they either die or take no significant damage. On the other hand Biosteel on Battlecruisers has to be like an A+ or something because it's completely absurd there.
