    I am 69 and am not marching anywhere. I just like learning about percussion and if I lived alone would get a tenor set just for drill. I have been working on snare drum for a couple years and enjoy the sense of success. Thanks for a good video that even an old and slow guy can get.

    My school just recently got rid of front ensemble this year because they wanted everyone to march and I got immediately bumped up to tenors because that's what I originally tried out for and I have no prior experience and missed out on all of the previous drumline classes because they just made this decision. This is really going to help me out, thank you!

    Can you recommend a good video or video series that
    does concentrate on
    learning to read the music
    for tenors?
    My son played bass last year for his high school marching band.
    This summer he went to non-required practices and
    put in the work and earned a spot on tenors. (His school uses the 5 drum tenors.) He
    auditioned and was
    selected. However now he is having serious misgivings.
    He does not know how to read the music very well. He mostly learned and passed the audition by memorizing the songs. Now that he is on the line and having to learn new music he is feeling like he is in over his head and is thinking of quitting band all together. (He also says that all the other tenor players are seniors, so next year he will be a junior and the oldest tenor player. His band expects the older students to help the newer students.
    So he is feeling overwhelmed by the thought of having to teach new kids how to learn tenors from bass or whatever.
    I am looking for a good series of videos that will help him learn to read the tenor music and gain confidence in it.

      It's hard to say without seeing the specific brand and condition, but there are definitely some good deals out there. I'd recommend showing a band teacher at school and seeing if they think it's a good purchase. Even if the set is worn, anything you can get will be good for practicing!

      If you have to carry them, go easy on your back! (And work on your core strength!) If you’re mostly putting them on a stand, deeper drums tend to have a fuller sound. But it’s honestly a matter of preference and what works for the ensemble you’re performing with.

    Ok I’m a freshman right now and I got put on bass drum on my drumline, don’t get me wrong it’s fun but I think I enjoy being on the drumline more than playing my actual drum. I was originally aiming for snare but I don’t know how that will go but I’m still making it my first choice then tenor my second. The thing I am mostly worried about for tenors is the weight, my bass drum weighs about 20 pounds. How much do the tenors weigh and is there any thing that I should really know about it.

    • @katiepompa9605
      @katiepompa9605 5 лет назад

      James Christian thank you, I asked some of the upper classman today and they said they way about 35-45 pounds that is definitely heavier than my drum but I think I can do it. I have been watching your series on tenors. Do you have any more tips on tenors, on how to improve faster or how to deal with all of the weight. By the way I am a 5 foot girl and I’m small for my age.
