I've got a set of 4/2 pots in my garage that I've been sitting on for a while trying to decide what colour to powder coat them. You've convinced me to clean them up, maybe the red will grow on me. Vancouver Island, Canada.
South Island New Zealand! You gotta come here cos if you do I will show you the most beautiful place on earth and in a WRX. Down here we have a mix of imported secondhand JDM models and (NZ new) or Oceania models like mine which were slightly detuned to run on 95 octane and have 260kph speedo and no speed cut, cruise control, 17” wheels and slightly different spring rate and no mirror fold in buttons. Today you can pick up a decent bug eye with 200k kms for about $2,500-$3000USD here in NZ and there’s plenty around but the Version 8-9 seems to be going up on price and getting highly sort after and go for about $10,000USD at 180-200k kms. We are really spoilt for choice of cars in NZ and only a few more years until the cannabis referendum goes through to get it legalized can’t wait. Keep up the good work and wish you heaps of subs as you deserve it !

I own a 2011 WRX and love it but would ultimately love to get a start on my dream build of an RSTI as well. I have done this upgrade on my 2004 Forester XT and yes it is a top upgrade for the cost 100% agree. I decided to rebuild the 4 pots as the ones I bought the boots were split, and it really was dead easy to do with the rebuild kit you can buy. On a Forester and maybe other Subarus with the small rear solid rotors being the most noticeable thing is the 2 pots, I replaced mine with a low mileage WRX Hub, which uses a bigger ventilated rotor. Also did the braided lines and Cusco master cylinder stopper, with good pads and brake fluid it's a massive difference over stock setup.
Bay Area Rex here. Just did my brakes with DBA slotteds. Already have SS lines and master brace. Now I just bought the 4pot/2pot for my 2010 Rex Wagon. Cannot wait to do the upgrade. Bought off Ebay new for $860. Now I just need the 2010+ Legacy Gt rotors for the rears and a rear adapter bracket. Don't know which bracket is best for my ride. Great video btw.
It’s gonna be a huge difference man! Especially with the stainless lines - combine that with fixed calipers and it will absolutely be a night and day difference! 👊

Hey Luke, I know that most of the JDMs had the 4/2 pot caliper brakes. If you were to buy that, would you purchase the 06/07 wrx caliper rebuild it to use for the 4/2 pots? I think they are the same but not 100% sure. Thanks

Any time you improve airflow, make sure you tune the ECU to know you've done that. It's especially important for '05 and up as they already started leaning out the fuel to meet emissions/MPG regulations by that point
Did you ever get these installed? Also do you know if the Brembo fronts are the same for just bolting on to a USDM GC8? I'm aware that the back Brembo's need an adapter plate.
I've been considering these on my swapped rs for a long time. Been running wrx front brakes, legacy H6 rears, Porterfield RS4 pads, ss lines and a master cylinder brace and it feels pretty amazing. I could probably convince myself to go 4 pot on the fronts at some point. However for the rears I have a set of 05 legacy gt brakes with the vented discs (yet to be installed). Unfortunately they the still have a sliding caliper but have that thicker and vented rotor for better cooling. I'm fairly certain that H6 and Legacy GT rear brakes are same diameter but will not work with 2 pot rear calipers. I might be wrong but even if the 2 pots could fit a larger diameter rotor I don't know how it would work out with a vented rear rotor since its much thicker. That's probably the only thing preventing me from sourcing 2 pot rears, what's your thoughts? /end huge paragraph, lol

You should have no trouble adapting disk brakes from an impreza, forester or legacy factory equipped with rear disk brakes. Great thing about Subarus are they are extremely interchangeable. Good luck!!!
630 back yard project just remove disc brake knuckle and hub ebrake line and abs sensor off from same year forester WRX or legacy. I'm doing the same for my 01 forester with disc from av2000 Impreza 2.5RS

If you have a “floating” caliper design, yes adding a “fixed” caliper, old school 4/2 pots or any newer type (such as Cadillac CTS calipers, or new corvette calipers), would be a great improvement in braking for sure!!! 🤙

Dude! you went backwards with you reasons to upgrade!! All those upgrades are designed to stop the deflection of flexing causing wasted movement. The master cylinder brace is designed to transmit all pedal movement straight to the line instead of losing some to firewall flex. These one piece calipers also offer more metal to dissipate heat from sustained heavy braking.
Totally agree with the brace transmitting pedal force to braking system and less loss to firewall flex. I should have added that - thanks for pointing it out. Same for the heat dissipation, totally true and another good benefit I should have discussed. I’ll try to touch on those points when I do the install video. Cheers man! 🤙🤙

Sorry, not sure. i like the crosstreks but worked on one. You might be able to look up if “06-07 WRX brakes fit a 2013 crosstrek”. Good luck. Sorry not more help on this one!!
Yes, was pretty straight forward. Fronts bolt up no issues, just need the correct size rotor (OEM 06-07 WRX) and reads needed new rotor plus little adapter brackets for the calipers, needed to open up the holes slightly, but working great for a while now!!!
@@SubaruONLY The darnest thing happened the other day. I was driving the car it stalled. Long story short had the battery and alternator checked. Battery was low and Alternator good, jumping the battery did not help it kept stalling after 2-3 mins! Then while removing the Alternator the wiring harness disintegrated (the one under the red plastic). YES it was rusted to the core. I guess the alternator could not charge the battery! I tried finding someone who sells Wiring Assembly - Alternator Subaru outback 2.5 unsuccessfully, do you have any leads? Thanks a bunch
That’s rough. I would check with iWire and if they can’t help, I’d probably go to eBay. Should be able to find sections of the wiring harness for decent price. Good luck getting her back on the road buddy! 👊

So if you are installing 4 pot front caliper from 2004-2006 WRX on 2004 Forester they bolt right in? You don't need to swap knuckle from WRX?

Have to double check, but I do think this should work for the Legacy platform too.
It's a bit of a downgrade for legacy man. The legacy have a much larger brake disc.
