Ageing beginner so I'm catching up with channels and yours is opening my old eyes wonderfully. I have a T something or other Lightning twin crew by Sword in my stash. Your video is invaluable, thank you.
Hello and welcome to the hobby, ageing beginner :) I'm pleased to see that this and my other videos you've watched are helping you get started. Best of luck and thanks for watching :)
Just got back into the hobby after a lay-off of some 30 Years! Your video's have been a priceless asset to me. A 'Go To' guide to get me started again. Nice build of 'John Spencers' Lightning F.Mk.6 - I must concur with someones comment that this variant did not have guns in the nose like the F.Mk.2A. Two 30mm Aden Canons sat in front of the ventral tank pack. Excellent work though... Keep the vids coming :-)
Damn fine work! I like how random panels are a different color, avoiding a boring looking gray bird! The weathering looks quite realistic and I'm guessing this was a jet from a quick reaction squadron.
Sincerely, you did a masterpiece from this nice kit. Your airbrush touch is incredible. So accurate and professional... An impressive tribute to the most iconic english fighter after the Spitfire. Thanks for this demonstration of art. (i apologize again about my seedy english... i refuse to use automatic translators... ) :)))
Absolutely awesome. Loved every minute of watching the video. Incidentally can go tell me what the music is that you used. Thanks again for posting this.
That is seriously neat and tidy work. Great paint finish, pre shading and decalling very well done. In terms of the Meteor I think the 111 Squadron looks has more interesting scheme. I like the contrast of the yellow tail with the camo pattern.
as has been said no upper guns on a mk6 and LTF quite often flew with a fuel pack rather than guns. Just to add they only had one mk6, the rest were T5 and Mk 3.
Sherbir Singh Thanks very much. Yes I did, it had a habit of falling off when I spun the model for underside shots so I decided to leave it off until afterwards
I have got the decals for 56 Squadron and 111 Squadron, that's what I'm going build my Lightning's as. Oh and 111 Squadron did fly two F.6's if I remember right. We use to see them flying around Stowmarket all the time as Wattisham was just up the road.
AWESOME ! Hey....got a quick story. and a question or 2. I'm 57 and when I was 25 I was the manager of a hobbyshop here in Lower Bucks Co,,PA. for 2.5 years.Back then I dabbled in plastic models but dropped that for RC Airplanes and haven't built another kit since.Back then I didn't have ANY bills / overhead so every paycheck I'd buy 1-5 models per week for 2.5 years. Needless to say I now have a shit load of unbuilt models in the original boxes.. Most of the models are cars but I still have a lot of military jet aircraft. The cars don't do anything for me now but the aircraft models I'm getting the itch to start up all over again. I have to start from scratch cuz I have no air compressor airbrush, paints, tools or anything. All I have are the models. So I have a goal to start investing in the equipmentet and pick up where I left off over 30 years ago.. Ok that's that. The 1 question I have is this. Why do you pre- paint the body panel seams with black when your going to paint over it ? I'm assuming its for depth and shadowing effect .Depending on the color, I'm not sure you can even tell that you painted the seams after you put the regular coat over. I'm only going by what I see on my screen I never saw a model up close in personl that's been painted like that. #2 What are the "go to" paints no a days ? Testers, Tamiya, Humbrol ? One more question are there companies that sell aftermarket diecast landing gear for 172nd scale aircraft cuz I have a problem with my older models with the landing gear snap off cuz they're weak or the glue is dried out. Thanks, Howard H.
Thank you! Nice story and I wish you the best of luck in taking up scale modelling once more. The answers to your questions: The pre-shading technique is used to highlight/shadow the panel lines underneath the colour coat. The pre-shading is then covered with several layers of a thin mix of the colour coat. By making the colour coat thinner than regular the pre-shaded panel lines will show through slightly. The amount of layers or thinners can tune the depth that the pre-shading then had on the colour coat. Obviously the less layers or thinner pain will result in a heavier pre-shade presence and vice-versa. If you look at some of my later videos (particularly the MIG-31 Foxhound ruclips.net/video/7u7_eV6uoeY/видео.html) you will see that I now use a black basing technique which I prefer to pre-shading. The video will show this technique in full if you want to take a look. Go to paints for me are Mr Hobby Aqueous and Tamiya Acrylics. Both have great ranges especially Mr Hobby. Both have good pigmentation and easy to thin and clean etc. I would stay clear of Humbrol as I have had many problems with consistent airbrushing with those. Metal colours I would suggest Alclad II lacquers and for oils Abteilung 502 or Winsor & Newton. A full equipment list ca be seen at the bottom of my videos if you're unsure. Hope this helps! and good luck once again! The Inner Nerd
Absolutely fantastic. Some great masking and painting. I have been looking for a tutorial like this for months. I have this model to build so you have given me some great tips as its about thirty two years since I last built a model, especially a Lightning (the best aircraft that ever flew). How much weight did you use in the front to prevent it from tail sitting? Thanks again for sharing and keep up the good work. Mark. UK
Thank you.Jaime Linares Rosales! I use Tamiya Masking tape on my latest models. Regular tape on the inner areas of the tamiya if it is a large area to save on the good stuff!
Sorry to ask but why do you spray the lines in the first bit? They just seem to get painted over. I'm not a model maker but enjoy these videos and was just wondering.
It's called pre-shading to darken the area between the panels. I don't use this technique any more because it doesn't look very realistic compared to the real aircraft but many modellers prefer this method. Thanks for watching :)
I use a sealey AB9321 airbrush, nothing special cost me around £30. I run at 22psi for normal spraying, drop it down to 15psi for pre-shading for finer lines
hi man, I'd like to ask you a couple of questions: I wasn't able to understand which color you're been using as postshading (letters covered by the wings colour background) and the one you used for the final touch (dark stripes along the rear and near the nose). Thanks Giuseppe from italy
I'm not sure when your are referring to in the video but for post shading I mix the lighter shades of the base colour with white and the darker shades black just to tone the original colour up or down slightly to get the variance. Thing these hevaily to get a smooth and faint line
The airbrush isn't too bad once you get the hang of the dual action. The key is to thin your paint enough to make it feed through the brush correctly, but not so much it starts to pool and become watery. I use a Sealy AB9321 which cost me £35 so it is very low-level compared to Iwata and others. I intend to do a tutorial video on how to set up and spray paint through an airbrush to help you guys out, but I always have a model on the go so I find it difficult to fit these small side videos in!
Nice model, it’s a pity you didn’t fill the upper nose gun ports, you said the plain ones broke when you tried to remove them from the spruce, having four gun ports spoils the look of the model.
Nice model, but you really need to research what your building and look at the instructions F6 with upper guns and the wings on the Redtops the wrong way around.

great work! enjoied this build very much
Great kit of an iconic British jet! Great build too
Damn fine work! I like how random panels are a different color, avoiding a boring looking gray bird! The weathering looks quite realistic and I'm guessing this was a jet from a quick reaction squadron.
Brilliant build and painting there, and what about awesome finish as well ,definitely looking forward to the Gloster Meteor thanks for Sharing kutgw
Nice one thanks for that I will have a look through some of my fishing weights to see what I have got.
Great shading and subtle details.
superb model making your airbrushing and attention to detail is amazing
Now this is a fantastic peace of work mate!
Found my new favorite youtube channel

Great build and paint enjoyed it very much.
One question did you have to put any weight
in the nose to prevent tail sitting?
the best technique of painting model
Superb workmanship
Absolutely awesome. Loved every minute of watching the video. Incidentally can go tell me what the music is that you used. Thanks again for posting this.
Brilliant workmanship..
Thank you and thanks for watching. I'd love to do one of these in 1/48 scale sometime!

A great jib on an excellent kit.

Awesome build there. Beautiful Lightning. Did you deliberately leave the pitot tube out of the final shots?
Sherbir Singh Thanks very much. Yes I did, it had a habit of falling off when I spun the model for underside shots so I decided to leave it off until afterwards
very nice work. looks great.
Nicely done moodel well done

Fab work as always! Let down by whoever told you RAF F6's had nose guns!!! Only RAF Germany F2A's had those!
Thank you, and that was straight from Airfix's instructions as far as I can remember! Thanks for watching :)

Mark. UK
I put in 4 grams as the instructions said. I used a lead fishing weight as that was the only thing I could find small enough to fit in the nose cone
Замечательно. Отличный самолёт.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Tip to make your masking tape last longer: tear or cut it in half lengthwise.
You then have two straight edges from same length of tape.
Hi, I see a lot of your videos, I learn a lot. I build models in 1:72. I wanted to ask you what kind of masking tape you use. Greetings and thanks
Thank you.Jaime Linares Rosales! I use Tamiya Masking tape on my latest models. Regular tape on the inner areas of the tamiya if it is a large area to save on the good stuff!
Many thanks for the reply, my friend! I keep watching your works;)
Fastest Jet We Ever manufactured. A True Silver-Bullet.
One of my favourites of all time for sure. I'm wanting to remake the 1/48 version sometime in the next year... Thanks for watching :)

Cool!👍✈️
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Great video. Great model. Can you tell me where the music comes from?
Great build and finish but where's the pitot probe gone?
What airbrush and and what psi do you use pal? great work :)
I use a sealey AB9321 airbrush, nothing special cost me around £30. I run at 22psi for normal spraying, drop it down to 15psi for pre-shading for finer lines
Brilliant
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Que marca es el masking tape que usas?? Y no levanta la pintúra?
Salúdos 👍👌
I use Tamiya masking tape in all my videos. Really nice tape and no ripping as long as the paint is properly dry
Great build.. Awesom work., but I have to ask.. What are you doing at 13:38? Wht did you smear on and are you trying to rub off?
Thank you. Its a panel line wash I added to the whole airframe which dis-colours the paint slightly and emphasises the panel lines
The MK6 had no upper guns, the guns were in a pack at the front of the ventral tank, LTF only had one MK6 the rest were MK T5 and a few MK 3.
Hi really nice model great video. Can I ask what masking tape you use?
James Coombes Thank you. I used regular masking tape on this one but I find Tamiya masking tape the best now
hi man, I'd like to ask you a couple of questions: I wasn't able to understand which color you're been using as postshading (letters covered by the wings colour background) and the one you used for the final touch (dark stripes along the rear and near the nose). Thanks Giuseppe from italy

What skill level is required for the spay gun? It looks pretty high

cool
What colors di you use? Vera beautifull
I use Tamiya Acrylic colours
Excelente trabajo 👌👏
Que marca de masking tape usas?
Se parece ala marca 3M
Saludos desde Puebla-Mex.
Hi, on this model I used the 3M tape yes, but now I prefer to use Tamiya masking tape it's far better I find
what paints you use, if it's not secret
I use Tamiya acrylics
The Inner Nerd
Mr Inner Nerd....... which specific Tamiya colors ( by number ) did you use on this superb F.6???? Thank you.
Great finish!!!!
Great video. What is music please.
Thank you. The composer is Edgar Hoff, but I'm not sure of the tracks. Thanks for watching :)
What PSI do you use to spray on the clear coat?
FXRPIONEER I use 22 PSI for all spraying apart from pre-shading which is at 15 PSI
Nice model, it’s a pity you didn’t fill the upper nose gun ports, you said the plain ones broke when you tried to remove them from the spruce, having four gun ports spoils the look of the model.
What does it mean when a set has a new tool?
The molds that make the parts are newly designed
I am not a master but you forgot the antiglare under the canopy front
Mark Wilson The silver ones do have an anti-glare panel. I think as thia is grey it hasn't
Nice model, but you really need to research what your building and look at the instructions F6 with upper guns and the wings on the Redtops the wrong way around.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Ever thought about building the Firefox MIG-31 www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234913880-anigrand-1-72-mig-31-firefox-finished/
No I haven't to be honest. I have thought of a MIG-21 though which I may do sometime in the future!
Sounds cool
