Thanks for your excellent review on Sony A6500. I have a question for you. Which one do you think we have to buy between A6500 and A6400 for videography? Thanks in advance!
Love mine. It’s a tank too. Dropped mine on concrete from chest level and thought the camera and lens (sigma 30mm 1.4) was done for but no major damage at all except for the chips and crack on the screen protector and lens hood got beat up. The rolling shutter does get annoying at times tho and battery life sucks. Other than that, no complaints if you buy a few $10 batteries.
Excellent summary with good voice, great clear speech and perfect length of vid. Well done for speaking up on the brilliant little kit lens, you put it to good use and made the point that people should heed, that super IQ is ok but convenience trumps often. Just get out and shoot is a better alternative to Chat Shops. Thank You for uploading and very best of luck with your new venture!
Great stuff. Just went back to my A6300 as I think it is a great camera. Actually sold my A7R2 to go back to it and done film about it as I was starting to suffer from GAS. Done a comparison of the kit lens against top of the range Sony full frame setup at about 3x the price and quality isnt that different. However I would be keen to see what the A6700 will be like if they bring one out, more so if it has a lot of the features from the A7 range.
Thank you, it is possible that A7III kind of is A6700 due to the price, it would be difficult to make something that would be an improvement over A6500, but not too close to A7III at the same time.
Good video! I have had my a6500 for 18 months now, and I love it! IQ is sufficient for my landscape and nature photography and I really appreciate the small size. Weaknesses in my opinion are LCD screen which is below par and the selection wheel.
I have the A6500 for about 4 to 5 years. I like it very much, even though I have the A6400 as well. My setting is very interesting. I have two autofocus EOS to NEX speed boosters. Most of my manual lens are adapted to EOS mount, so I can benefit from one more stop of light, together with 0.71x. With clear image zoom and digital zoom. X2 an x4. So making the A6500 very super set up. The 5 stop of OSS , making using manual lens very convenient and cheap.
Well done video. I just ordered the 6500 as the price dropped. I have the 6300 which is a great camera also. The only negative I have is the battery life. I carry a spare all the time but that isn't a real problem for me. I am a still shooter and rarely do video.
Hi, thank you for your reviews, they are very helpful and much appreciated. I will be interested in your point of view: Do you, or would you use an external monitor, such as the SmallHD Focus 5" for still shooting outdoors? Or would that be to cumbersome and should be left for video type of shooting only? Thanks
I was deciding to get the g7 but my camera store had a really good deal on this a6500...and now im so confused. I shoot more photo on a daily basis, but when traveling I do want to get a lot of cinematic footage. My main cons about the a6500 is the UI/UX, lens selection, LCD screen (also it doesn't flip out), and the color. What I love is the autofocus, bigger sensor, and 120 fps. which do you recommend?
That is very complicated question, and the answer depends on your preferences. Take a look at my A6500 vs G85 video bit.ly/a6500vsg85 it is a bit old video, but it could help you decide.
Thanks for all these comments. I just got mine. i need an advice about how to set up in advance my camera, for some shooting from a small plane (cessna) of a forrest above. I will have no times to try different set ups. I am afraid of shooting in 4 K with the rolling shutter mentioned so often. What would you do, you PROS ?
Hi, I've really enjoyed watching your videos. Great content. I've been using a6000 for a year and a half now and have recently bought 16-55 G 2.8 lens which is as close to perfection as the sigma trio. I love it, however, it's not stabilized so going below 1/80 shutter speed is tricky to get sharp pictures. There is a used a6500 @500$ on offer and I was wondering how well IBIS is to decrease shutter speed without increasing ISO and too much noise creeping in. I'm only interested in hand-held shots in low light. Thank you for your reply.
@@TheHybridShooter good to know. For evening street fotography I usually shoot between 16-35mm. Naturally for some serious images one always needs a tripod. For indoors shooting Sigma 16mm @1.4 is just gorgeous. Moreover, I've noticed that if you opt for multi metering mode sony gives out three quick bursts which increase the quality of the picture. I think it's only available in jpeg. Nevertheless, when sony upgrades 6600 with better sensor and better IBIS I'll be the first to buy it. For the time being I'm gonna pull the trigger and enter the bid for the used 6500.
@@TheHybridShooter Hi. So I've finally purchased a used a6500. It definately feels more premium than a6000. I like the AF touchscreen and IBIS is for sure a game changer. Combined with the 16-55 f2.8 lens makes a killer combination for all-round hybrid photography. At 16mm I can go down to 1/3 sec and at 55mm down to 1/15 sec without motion blur but still have to keep my arms tight to the body.
Great video. I watched some RUclips videos and some reviewers are saying that when you do video, the screen get washed out in the sun. Does this happen when you take photos?
How well does it work with the app? Would it be possible to use a phone instead of an Atomos Ninja as an external monitor (for vlogging purposes and for cinematic too?
I got the a6500 and I like it so far. One question I have is when shooting landscapes will the built in (vibration) stability control interfere with the picture? On my Nikon I shut the VR off on the lens. Thanks in advance!
Great review and insight over the year! nice work! I just bought the a6500, and i have an adapter to get my canon lenses to work on it; (35mm, 10-18mm, 55-250mm) however the auto focus doesn't work with them. (as they just search and never focus) Photodiox is the adapter brand. have you found the sigma adapter to work for canon lenses? also do you know of any lenses that won't require selling my arm if i do have to sell my canon ones? Thanks! Callum
I've owned the a6500 since release. Your video is very balanced and thoughtful. It is a body that you'll either love or hate. I definitely love it for its compact size, IQ and versatility. I am fine re the user experience, but it is not a camera that you shoot out of the box ... for example, I change the button mappings whenever I put on a different class of lens -- manual focus, native, etc. Also, the best lenses require an adapter for alpha-emount (la-ea1/la-ea3) and if you want to go solely with native lenses, then your choices are limited and provide lower IQ in many cases (compared to Fuji XT-2). On the other hand, adapted alpha lenses are an incredible value (especially on ebay) with excellent IQ (comparable to Fuji lenses) and capability (except video, of course).
It is true that you have to know how to properly use it to get the best possible results with A6500, although the performance in terms of IQ is definitely there.
thank you for the effort and the sharing. i wish i liked the ergos, the menu and the sony color. still not a fan. that said, i am an appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.
You're welcome, for my purposes the Sony color is actually the best thanks to that Picture Profile 8 and Cine 4 gamma, I haven't found anything that could match it. Sony color is just a myth and a matter of settings.
Thanx for the video... ı want to make my short films (especially at low light scenes) I am thinking to buy a6300/a6500, and also want to buy stabilizer (crane), also these cameras need speedbooster I guess (?) 1) which speedbooster should I buy? (you know there are some AF problems between viltrox (cheap) & metabones(expensive) ) 2) Which lenses should I buy? (sony lenses are enough or what else) And have you any information about canon eos m50?
You're welcome, I don't recommend using speedbooster as a main option. Sigma 16mm, 30mm and 56mm F1.4 DC DN are great and bright lenses. You can also use Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM with Sigma MC-11 adater (you need canon versions). Sony 35mm and 50mm F1.8 OSS are also great lenses.
I’ve heard the LCD dims a lot when using 4k. I was just curious how bad is the LCD screen dimming on 4k indoors/outdoors? Seems like a major thing. How do you guys manage this?

thanx bro i subscribe you. you provide good info on this camera and lenses the main reason i like you explain very straight forward. stick with point. i hope in future you give us very good info.
My issues with the alpha NEX/alpha include weather resistance and the body shape. I had the 5n ,7 6 and 6300. I moved away from the line mostly do to it being overly small and the other issues. I still don’t like the menu system although it has continued to improve.
Yo guys so what should I get, I’ve really been deciding on either canon 80d or a6500 still debating on it, there’s a lot of pros and cons between each camera and can’t really seem to choose which one would be good for me
The Hybrid Shooter yes I ended up leaning more towards the A6500 seems like it has better image quality with its cost, don’t get me wrong the 80d looks fantastic for what it is but I need a upgrade from my canon t6i to do better video work on car edits, so thanks for the answer!
Hi..one query.. Images that you shared with lens description mentioned in the videos..are they pre processed direct shots? Please reply,it will be helpful for me.. I want to order my first dslr and confused between NikonD5600 and SonyA6500..
Depends on where are you buying. IMO it is worth $1 098 in the US or Hong Kong, but not 1 699€ in Europe. Regarding the next model, it is possible that the A7 III kind of is the next model, it is unclear if or when A6700 will happen or what will it be.
It remains my travel cam and use it a lot more than 5dm4. After more than 1 year of use, it is showing signs of software and hardware erratic issues. one time the menu was scrolling on its own and just today i changed into sony native lens and there was humming noise. Weird as it may seem but i had similar experience with sony point and shoot cam which break down after 2 yrs. long term reliability is still a question with sony cams, time will tell. Love the pack of features and light weight tho
The Hybrid Shooter yes. I kinda think that latest fw is the culprit. Never happened prior to the update. Will see whats gonna happen in the next few months then
Ahoj. Vedel by si mi poradit prosim ta? Mam fuji X-T30 , ale premyslam nad Sony. Aj kvoli Sigmam a moj nie je utesneny. Ktora by bola lepsia a6400 alebo a6500? Dakujem
Ak máš Fuji X-T30, na A6400 ani A6500 by som neprechádzal. Tie tiež nie sú utesnené (odolné voči vlhkosti a prachu u Sony v podstate znamená bez utesnenia) a vo vela veciach by si si pohoršil.
Ak ju nemam ani v X-T30ke,bude to velmi vadit pri foteni? Nemam s tym skusenost.
only big problem is the screen as you said. ergonomics is not great too, or menu and some other stuff but still if they would make the screen be brighter in 4k I would have no complains
The Hybrid Shooter which is true. I am giving myself until April for any announcement before making my decision on camera body. April is sorta random but allows time to save money and let so t make some moves with causing impatience
@@TheHybridShooter in terms of purely image quality (and to some extent video capabilities), does D750 outperforms A6500? I know their incompatibility for belonging to different categories. Yet, i am asking you because pricing of them are near about.
Frosty Mills abandoned? It's one one the best apsc cameras on the market. Still beating all the new model's. The new Sony APSC will be here soon and I won't upgrade as the 6500 is amazing
ASSISTANCE NEEDED! How would I stop my videos from being mirrored/my face being reversed when recording a video? Any help from anyone is appreciated!!! Thanks everyone!
I used for a year too, with sigma 18-35 1.8 for video it's perfect but in still images I think it's ok but compared with my old canon 6d the photos looks very weak and also I think with still you can't go above iso 1600 I'm looking to buy a7lll for stills and video and I will use the a6500 for second camera for video . I make a few wedding with the a6500 and I had to use around 8 batteries at the end of the day (2 originals) but amazing quality in video .
The Hybrid Shooter the video is so good man!!! Yoy are realy good YT. lol i am so want to buy the sony a6500. But with vlog lens its to much expensive. I think to buy the canon 80d. What you said about?
Why not, Pricepoint and feature set then the autofocus it's hard to argue against it - who needs wobbly 4k? I understand that the ideals arent their with canon though when you actually use a camera in real life they are still solid and to defend DSLRs the fact is they still focus at much lower light have way more lenses to choose from and are overall as good and as light as some of these mirrorless systems, so why not buy a Canon or Nikon for that matter?
An external battery is the best option for the a6500 when shooting videos for long periods. It will keep the sensor cooler plus a backup inside the camera.... Chk my setup instagram.com/p/BkpuTprgQEd/?hl=en&taken-by=vikingdescendent
You had it for one year, or used it for a year? This thing looks brand new Mines all beaten up. But its gone through a lot and captured come amazing stuff! IG @michaelfrymus

Thank you, I appreciate your subscription!
My issues with the alpha NEX/alpha include weather resistance and the body shape. I had the 5n ,7 6 and 6300. I moved away from the line mostly do to it being overly small and the other issues. I still don’t like the menu system although it has continued to improve.
Yo guys so what should I get, I’ve really been deciding on either canon 80d or a6500 still debating on it, there’s a lot of pros and cons between each camera and can’t really seem to choose which one would be good for me
I have been using EOS M50 with 80D internals for a while now, and if you are serious about the output, get the A6500.
The Hybrid Shooter yes I ended up leaning more towards the A6500 seems like it has better image quality with its cost, don’t get me wrong the 80d looks fantastic for what it is but I need a upgrade from my canon t6i to do better video work on car edits, so thanks for the answer!
@@recordsofbas 80d the best
Hi..one query..
Images that you shared with lens description mentioned in the videos..are they pre processed direct shots? Please reply,it will be helpful for me..
I want to order my first dslr and confused between NikonD5600 and SonyA6500..
Yes, all of the shots are processed using Adobe Lightroom or Luminar 2018. If your budget allows it, I definitely recommend A6500 over D5600.
Sony a 6500 is better or Canon 6D Mark II? I need a camera for both filming and photography
I much prefer Sony A6500.
love the review!!!
Thank you!
is it still worth the price these days tho? or should i wait for the next model?
Depends on where are you buying. IMO it is worth $1 098 in the US or Hong Kong, but not 1 699€ in Europe. Regarding the next model, it is possible that the A7 III kind of is the next model, it is unclear if or when A6700 will happen or what will it be.
The Hybrid Shooter yea i live in australia and its like $2,300 au with lens kit. bit hesitant to buy it, they might launch the next model soon.
Excellent information!
Thank you!
Would you prefer a fuji xt30?
I honestly don't know.
I'm sorry to hear that, mine is as good as new after one year. Do you have latest FW installed?
The Hybrid Shooter yes. I kinda think that latest fw is the culprit. Never happened prior to the update. Will see whats gonna happen in the next few months then
Should i get this or G85? I need to use it for video
Depends on your priorities, A6500 has better image quality and autofocus, G85 has better handling and usability.
Can the a6500 shoot raw video? Or would I need some sort of firmware like Magic Lantern for Canon cameras?
No, there is no way to shoot RAW video with A6500, shooting 4K RAW is a bit more difficult than what ML can do.
The Hybrid Shooter That’s what I was thinking. There’s no firmware like ML for Sony cameras yet?
No, there is nothing like that for Sony, but you have 100 mbps codec and 6K downscaled to 4K instead.
Ahoj. Vedel by si mi poradit prosim ta? Mam fuji X-T30 , ale premyslam nad Sony. Aj kvoli Sigmam a moj nie je utesneny.
Ktora by bola lepsia a6400 alebo a6500?
Dakujem
Ak máš Fuji X-T30, na A6400 ani A6500 by som neprechádzal. Tie tiež nie sú utesnené (odolné voči vlhkosti a prachu u Sony v podstate znamená bez utesnenia) a vo vela veciach by si si pohoršil.
Ak ju nemam ani v X-T30ke,bude to velmi vadit pri foteni? Nemam s tym skusenost.
Ťažko to vyjadriť... v normálnom svetle to nebude vadiť, v slabom svetle bude treba použiť rýchlejšiu spúšť alebo otvoriť clonu.
Every review should be like this
I love mine. Not changing it anytime soon.
only big problem is the screen as you said. ergonomics is not great too, or menu and some other stuff but still if they would make the screen be brighter in 4k I would have no complains
Yes, the screen and rolling shutter are the biggest problems IMO.
Very well done video review.
Thank you!
How do you compare the a6500 vs the Lumix G9?
I have made separate video about that: bit.ly/G9vsA6500
Thank you!
love it!!! thumbs up!!!
Thank you!
cool video dude !
Thank you!
which color-grad used in 1:24......???
It is LUT called Sedona
Thanks a lot for this information
@@shahazuddin4502 You're welcome!
is there a way to get 300mm reach? I've seen only up to 210mm.
Only with full frame or adapted lenses.
Really great video.
Thank you!
very nice, thanks!
Is it worth getting over the Panasonic G7 which costs 500$ less?
Yes, it is.
The Hybrid Shooter thanks buddy
Do u have an instagram page....i love to see ur work .......!!!
I do, but I don't post much at the moment instagram.com/william_svrcek
Nice full review.
Thank you!
What’s your favorite lense?
For A6500 it is Sigma 16mm F1.4
thx. My single next camera, after a6300
You're welcome!
@ Sony Please update a6500 with full touch capability, type C charging, pop-up EVF, 180 degree flip screen, better ISO & AF
check Sony rumors. Its coming soon
They have been saying that for about half a year.
The Hybrid Shooter which is true. I am giving myself until April for any announcement before making my decision on camera body. April is sorta random but allows time to save money and let so t make some moves with causing impatience
Should I buy Nikon D7500 or A6500?
Those are quite different cameras, so it depends on your preferences. I prefer mirrorless, so I got the A6500.
@@TheHybridShooter in terms of purely image quality (and to some extent video capabilities), does D750 outperforms A6500? I know their incompatibility for belonging to different categories. Yet, i am asking you because pricing of them are near
about.
How does the eye focus work with the mc-11 and the 18-35?
Very well, like with native lens.
I still use more my a6500 than my a7s ii. OUTSTANDING camera
I agree, it is my most used camera as well.
Throughout the video i felt like "drac" from hotel trasylvania is talking!
I can sure that's not the case :)
The Hybrid Shooter haha! Great video! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Mark Don thank you!
Advanced gopro nice one
It's a real GoPro killer 🙂
It was hard to decide to either switch to m5 or a6500!
Honestly, that would be very easy choice for me.
Frosty Mills A6500 hands down
True although I wish aps-c wasn’t abandoned by Sony because there ain’t no a6700 or a7000
Frosty Mills abandoned? It's one one the best apsc cameras on the market. Still beating all the new model's. The new Sony APSC will be here soon and I won't upgrade as the 6500 is amazing
Lets just hope the a6700 has that z battery like on my a7iii
Your snow foam is too juice put some more soap in :D Thanks for video it helped a lot i was betwwen a6400 and a6500
You're welcome, I'm glad that it was helpful!
ASSISTANCE NEEDED! How would I stop my videos from being mirrored/my face being reversed when recording a video? Any help from anyone is appreciated!!! Thanks everyone!
I have never heard of such issue to be hones. there might be something wrong with your camera.
With the Sony A7III, alot of people can switch to FF.
They can, but the question is whether they need to, I will make a comparison of A7 III and A6500 soon.
Ty jsi ze slovenska? :D
Jo, jsem ze Slovenska 🙂
Tak to je super, máš super tvorbu. Už nemálokrát jsem se u tebe informoval co se kamer a objektivů týče. :)
Ďakujem, dúfam, že boli moje videá nápomocné.
Ano byly. Teď čekám na recenze A7III protože nad tím sám uvažuji. Ještě ale asi stejně počkám až vyjde A7IIIS a pak nástupce a6500.
Taky chválím ;)
The foil takes a lot of the brightness out :/
But also a lot of reflection.
Personally I much prefer stills from A6500 over 6D, because of the dynamic range.
Yes!! New video!!
Like and lets start
I hope that you will like it!
The Hybrid Shooter the video is so good man!!! Yoy are realy good YT. lol i am so want to buy the sony a6500. But with vlog lens its to much expensive. I think to buy the canon 80d. What you said about?
Thank you, honestly, I wouldn't buy Canon in 2018.
The Hybrid Shooter yes, they are don't get nothing new. Its the bad things in canon, Sony have a lot new tech. 4k, mirorless and more
Why not, Pricepoint and feature set then the autofocus it's hard to argue against it - who needs wobbly 4k? I understand that the ideals arent their with canon though when you actually use a camera in real life they are still solid and to defend DSLRs the fact is they still focus at much lower light have way more lenses to choose from and are overall as good and as light as some of these mirrorless systems, so why not buy a Canon or Nikon for that matter?
An external battery is the best option for the a6500 when shooting videos for long periods. It will keep the sensor cooler plus a backup inside the camera.... Chk my setup instagram.com/p/BkpuTprgQEd/?hl=en&taken-by=vikingdescendent
Heating problem in 6500
Not with this one though.
11:29 point & sh!t camera lol
I clearly haven't said that.
hey i want to tell someone your youtube u.r.,l, there's no name! why does your youtube u.r.l say ruclips.net/channel/UC-0cdtgZF01T3N8drruyikg ?
ruclips.net/user/TheHybridShooter works as well.
You had it for one year, or used it for a year?
This thing looks brand new
Mines all beaten up. But its gone through a lot and captured come amazing stuff!

I used it of course, I am fortunately able to prevent any damage by taking a good care of my equipment.
