spent a lot of time in the 80s as a kid listening to all kinds of music, including psychedelic staples such as Pink Floyd, Beatles, Cream, Blue Oyster Cult, Hendrix, Grateful Dead etc, and in my opinion, Warpaint has a distinct, dreamy psuedo jazzy prog rock meets psychedelic dream pop that probably gets labeled more as "art rock" for lack of being able to single out their sound. Add in the R&B influence and the Hip-Hop, and they may have one of the more diverse sounds (I didn't even throw in the Raggae, blues, or Krautrock, and anyone who knows music could throw in a hundred other things that would be way behind my minuscule knowledge. But Psychedelic overall, ,...yes
at times i wish they'd incorporate/demonstrate/express far more aggression in their songs. I feel like there are some missed opportunities for "screams/wails" in this one, though it remains just as striking a song/performance to me without them and that take is probably far more reflective of my rage than any they harbor
