Greetings my Brother from Northern Utah in the U.S. It’s 5 in the Morning and the temperature is 2 degrees Fahrenheit (-16.667 degrees C). Fortunately or rather (unfortunately) I’m in a long term heath care facility [Day 116] due to severe fall and subsequent infection. Dr.’s have managed to save the leg so far, but my days of extended hiking and wilderness camping appear to be over. At 71 years old I thought I had a few more years left. We’ll see. Keep on going my Brother-let’s me still get some enjoyment-if only from watching!
I have watched literally hundreds if not thousands of survival vids over the last 5 yrs and this vid on building a fire log best illustrates what to do for a long term sustained heat source. Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce this.
My friend, what a beautiful and kind person you are. We adore life for your wonderful presence among us. You are a person who deserves to live on this flat earth. ⚘️❤
I watch quite a bit of camping/ hiking videos and have to say that I have never seen anyone build a fire like you have, simple idea but affective, thanks for the idea 👍
Loved the Wall of Fire! Could have shown even more footage of rotating the logs and just that wonderful FIRE. Mesmerizing! Your videos are better than medication for blood pressure, I can feel my heart rate lower and get such a deep sense of relaxation. Your channel should get a Seal of Approval from the WHO for therapeutic purposes. As I sit in Kuwait City, I can dream of cold weather sleeping until I get home to the Redwoods! Thank you, my friend.
That wall of fire is great! I'll have to try that, next time I'm out where it can be used. Only thing to be careful of is, if using it as a heat source while sleeping, that it doesn't burn through the retaining stakes. Having a pile of burning logs roll into bed with you is certainly one way to prevent you from getting your beauty sleep! 😎 Seriously, having a couple of 'safety stakes' driven between you and it to catch any that might roll can make it safer. Good idea!
Really great program! As an older man in my 70's I have a whole new appreciation of winter camping in the way you do it. I love the simplicity of your approach in all aspects including your gear. For me the winter has always been a difficult time but this has opened my eyes and heart to see the beauty and magic of this time. Really enjoyed this!!
Your videos do not disappoint and this one is no exception. The minimal items you bring means you are not always fussing instead of enjoying your surroundings which I appreciate. Thanks for all the beautiful winter shots, including overhead from the drone. (Glad to see you not limping. Hope your foot is feeling better.)Wish you health, contentment and prosperity in all endeavors for 2024.
Thank you for cold and beautiful video. The impressive scene, Swedwoos is waiting for hitting a fish into the ice hole against the sun. The sun seems a sunflower. That's shining beautifully.
Finely...a man smart enough to start a fire before work. Fire, fire, FIRE! I guided in the Bitter Root of western Montana. When I set out to spend a few days glassing game the FIRST thing I dint once a site was chosen was to start a fire. Weather can change in a heartbeat, and gathering wood isn't easy if one is injured. A fire is a life saver. Always get the fire going, then stop when your're ready to call it a day. You'll be glad you did. Forget the primitive fire sticks. A pack of 5 Bic lighters are 1.99!
I live in Vermont, United States. We own 220 acres of land here. We’re surrounded by the beautiful mountains, trees, lakes and streams. It does get bitterly cold where I live and we get tons of snow. New subscriber here! I’m enjoying your channel. Thank you.
People enjoying this video, is it because watching this man suffer makes you appreciate your room/house and be happier? Btw, gotta give this man a like for his hard work
What brutal conditions! I camped out a few nights ago in 11F/-11C to test some gear but I was in the woods near my house, not on a frozen lake! Incredible! Food as always looked delicious. You work that lavvu like no one else. So we have the Siberian log fire, the long fire and now the TALL fire 😂😂😂.
Prima, weiter so! 👍👍👍🙋♂💪🙏
North Idaho panhandle wall of fire. Even crispy froze, it still makes water when it lights off and thaws a bit. Pyramid of tinder and sustain, on both sides, then light. How Gramps did it. 4 logs high for his wall camp fires. He called his a "Kootenai Indian fire". Make sure it can't topple onto your boots while you sleep. Nice Survival. Thanks for the Vid. I'll subscribe for a bit.
Hey Swede! That was a chilling experience just watching. Fire wall worked good it seems. No thanks, not sleeping on a frozen lake, frozen sand is bad enough. I knew there would be noodles😋 Nicely done, surprised no electronic malfunctions in this one, happens. Happy 2024, great start. See ya next time.
😂 makes me laugh, here in England they make a big deal on the weather reports with names like the beast from the east, were lucky if the snow lasts more than a night. Great video and good skills as always.👍🏻
Great camping adventure, myself i would have used a few split logs on the second row, you need that lip on the split log face down to catch new flame faster. makes a nicer/hotter fire, always try use a split log if you can, round logs have a hard time burning, no down facing edge :) you also avoid the need for adding sticks to the sides to keep it burning, i made that mistake more than once :) great job man, love this video :)
Yes ive done split log fires here also but you dont want hotter. You want them to smolder through the night. If you get more than candle size flames you have failed.

I said the same in my comment, have seen thousands of camping videos but had never seen anyone build a fire like that, the simple ideas are the best 👍

I really enjoyed the thoughts you add to the log fire, and the shot of the snow blowing on the ice.
Thank you very much!
