I think the reason why I love watching Torbjorn above all other youtube blacksmiths/crafters is just how intelligent but simple his methods are--from rubbing chalk onto the back of the fireplace tracing, to the strip of metal he bent to shape instead of forging an entirely new strip to the same arc. Such a pleasure to watch, and I learn something new every video. :) Thank you, Torbjorn!
What I appreciatie the most about your videos is your silence. You let the work speak for itself. And that work is always of a superb quality, be it iron, wood or whatever material you work with.
That's so perfectly sized that it looks like part of the original fireplace. There's something to be said for simple, functional designs like that. Love it. :)
I honestly love watching you work, doesn't matter what it is you are making it is awesome! Everything is so meticulously crafted and precisely designed, and on top of that, your video editing is perfect for a relaxing viewing experience :) please do more cooking, carpentry, whatever you feel like! and of course blacksmithing !
What a nice piece, thanks for sharing your work! And I appreciate the detail of protecting the mesh while welding, it already spared me a mesh replacement
Awesome! I liked this build, very practical and reproducable. I never thought to use chalk in this manner, I will definitely remember this one. In some areas of the U.S., this could be a very easy way to make money.
Your introduction scene reminds me of the old Coronet films they used to show us in U.S. schools decades ago; supposed to educate us about other countries, etc. It would go something like: “Today we visit Sweden, and here we have the village blacksmith stopping at a customers home to build a fireplace screen, Sven the smithy is greeted by Lars and is shown the project.” 2 years later same scene, same actors, and just a tweak of the dialog: “Today we visit Norway, and here we have the village blacksmith stopping at a customers home to build a fireplace screen, Ragnar the smithy is greeted by Olav and is shown the project.” And that’s why you folks across the pond must sometimes forgive us our ignorance, with everything painted by the same brush, it really got confusing to us kids. ☺
Neat idea with the "spot welding". With paints and organic solvents ... if you do it more often, consider getting an A2 rated filter for your mask(s); it really works wonders.
Beautiful countryside where you live, very tranquil and pleasant. Nice screen, is the mesh stainless? We don’t have many fireplaces in this country, mostly too hot where I live. Enjoyed the video as usual, all the best from down under.
What?? No forge welds no punch n drifted holes no hot rivits? 😂🤣😂🤣 Lord he's going to hit me w a hammer again!! Very NICE and neatly done sir Sir. Great work and learning experience . Thank you for sharing. 🙏 Be blessed now y'all Crawford out ⚒️
Nice job! I would have added some nice big copper rivets to hold the frame together, simple & decorative...maybe give the legs a touch of bend downwards too.
How are you taking it off though? Just a glove and you’re fine ? A handle could have been great I think but that’s just me! Awesome build thank you man ! Keep it up, Mathias
Was thinking about a handle, but it was hard to come up with something that didn't ruin "esthetics" :) I was surprised it didn't seem to heat up that much. It's of course cooled by the air sucked into the fireplace but still. A small glove will do it for sure.
Torbjörn Åhman thanks for the answer, you’re right I’m not sure how I would have put a handle on that one either. Small question : do you feel like arc welding is more resistant than mig welding? Or is no longer the case?
Arc welding or stick welding is far better when it comes to construction and welding thicker stuff. To mig weld large pieces you need a very powerful machine, like 300-400 amps.
Mr. Ahman. What kind of screen was used for this build? Was it stainless steel? The simplicity of this build was all good. It had a ton of heart breathed into it. It was perfect and very functional as well great job my friend. M&S Blades
Cool !! Man, du har gyllene händer! Jag tittar på din mästerklass !! Tack!
How hard would to be to make some latches and mount them onto either side of the fireplace itself, in order to prevent something like a piece of falling wood from pushing the screen out of the way?
Thanks for another great video. I love all of them. How can I order one of your T shirts with your logo on the back? All I saw were logos on the front. Thanks

Thank you so much!!
I really like the idea of using your anvil as a chalkboard on which to draw your blueprint!
That anvil is worth more than my car.
same.

So simple in design but executed so well. It looks amazing. I was going through withdrawal symptoms until this video came up. Keep them coming!
You're an inspiration. Your craftsmanship makes even something this simple beautiful.
Scrupulousness and accuracy in every movement. I admire you.
Congratulations. Really a nice finish. Making the backsided bow is as simple as effective. That is straight handcraft. Thumbs up!
Thanks!
The black frame of the screen I think makes the fireplace look better, nice work.
Very professional work,good job.
I learn something useful with each and every one of your videos. Thank you, Torbjörn

Man, that looks awesome! Including those long bright summer nights!
Very nice, I've been wanting to make a fire place screen myself. Your approach to this project was very insightful as to how to approach that project.
Great looking fire screen! Simple but effective is some times the best way to go :-) God bless thanks for the video
Sometimes it is! Thanks. Sure if you allow more time spent, you could rivet or add small detail.
beautiful...simple....i love your work. Inspiring. Love your content and the way it is filmed. keep up the fine craftsmanship
I never knew that I needed a smithy until I started watching your videos!!
:)
for someone so sophisticated, you've got MAD skills with a rattle can!

How satisfying was that?! Many fireplaces in your part of the world. I can see the neon sign: Fireplaces by Torbjörn. Sounds nice! Great job!
Ha ha, thanks!!

Ha ha, I can totally relate to the same kind of old films here... Thanks for the laugh.
Stop teasing us by showing the lake and build Viking boat already! You have brand new wood shop for that !
Damn that is Pimp. Great work, as always. Love the "Drilled hole, Puddle sandwich" method, that's really clean. Learn new shit from you every time!
Nice video, Torbjörn.
The protection looks great, because you could see the art of blacksmithing. :-)
I'll see if there's a blacksmith near me. :-)
It really completes the look.
That has to be the best looking fireplace screens on the planet.
Thanks!
Beautiful work👍🏻

Hello from North Carolina.
Hello! :)
Beautiful!
como siempre un lujo
Muy bueno para la proxima que sea puerta con cristales un saludo desde españa
Did you give any thought to replacing the screen in the future. More work for sure but was just thinking.
Very well!
I like this more!
Cool piece, and awesome to see you work as always! Were you doing a commissioned work, or were you just helping out a neighbour or friend?😊
Thanks! Should we say both? :)
Thanks for the video!

Amazing work! Thanks for sharing :-)
Very classy.
If I've learned only one thing from this video it's you that can never have enough locking pliers.
Great work.
You must live in a wonderful country if they sell vice grips in a 10 pack!😁
Ha ha, sorry they don't :)
Torbjörn Åhman we’ll keep the dream alive together🤣

Thanks. It was galvanized or zinc coated steel. Very thin stuff.
With such a fireplace screen I would have spent the night.
:)

How hard would to be to make some latches and mount them onto either side of the fireplace itself, in order to prevent something like a piece of falling wood from pushing the screen out of the way?
Probably not that hard, but I wouldn't like to attach things to the old fireplace permanently.
real nice transfer Idea. have to use that sometime.
Thanks for another great video. I love all of them.

Thanks!! I decided to change the design.
Very nice.
