My late father absolutely idolised the gorgeous man... In now 40 and my dad passed away back in 2013 I grew up with my dad playing his records especially on Sundays mornings when he was nursing a hangover lol!! But even at pre school age I learned every Billy fury song word for word. My dad always said he was the English Elivis!!! Even now I'm 40 I still listen here and there to Billy just to reminisce my days with my dad playing his LPs... I hope anyone who reads this can relate to this.... RIP TO MY DAD AND BILLY GALD YOU HAVE FOUND EACH OTHER TO HAVE A GOOD OLD JAN WITH XX
Love you Billy Fury! Played you at my Dad's funeral recently! Actually played both Elvis and Billy, as my Mum and Dad met at a jukebox in their local and argued over who to play back then!
I do so hope that these old clips are saved by the british film institue or somewhere. I never got to see Billy live, he died when I was a teen but he is one of my favortie artists of all time.
I went to the "Big" Rock "N" Roll Show at Wembley in 1972. Got delayed and missed Billy`s set. But did see Jerry Lee Lewis,Bill Haley, Little Richard and Chuck Berry. So, all was not lost! BF without question, Britains best and most underated pop /rock performer.
im 45 and love billy fury. he was and still is truly great. i play in a 60s duo and the guy who sings lead vocal sounds so much like billy fury its scary. i get goose bumps when he sings billys tracks.we have had woman actually crying in social clubs coming up to us and say they saw billy live and have never heard anyone sing so hauntingly close. billy fury.(real name ronald wicherly)...the english elvis presley.remembered forever ///////
Absolute gorgeous. Very shy quiet guy. Not pushy at all. Very modest. He had a lovely voice and was very handsome. He also wrote done great songs. Love you Billy. You deserved a long life. 💕
I just wonder if these people realised how absolutely awesome Billy was . I saw this I think on top of the pops ?as a teenager and was blown away . This guy rocked ! No wonder the Beatles wanted to be his backing singers .
John Lennon asked Billy for his autograph after turning down the job of backing him on tour because Larry Parnes told him to dump Stuart Sutcliffe who had auditioned with his back to the audience because he was only starting out on bass and not yet up to speed.Billy gave him the autograph. I think Billy would have done great covers of Woman and Starting Over..
Billy does a great job of this Vic Dana song.Until around 1963,many UK hits were in fact"cover songs" of American hits..there were a few exceptions...such as Eden Kane,Adam Faith,Johnny Leyton and Helen Shapriro,Cliff Richard and Mike Berry.
He was brilliant, Billy fury the 60s way always 100%respect for his music and brilliant always have total respect for Billy fury a master class in British music 100% respect
No one compared to BiIly.I never liked Elvis, but Billy was exceptional.I loved him in my teen and wrote his name all over my school books.I still get tearful thinking of his short life and how ill he looked at the end.RIP Billy
Agreed, it was very sad that he lived that long instead of earlier, like some people did when their lifetime was over for good or worse than that sometimes.
On this day in 1964 {May 1st} Billy Fury performed "I Will" on the British ITV network television program, 'Ready Steady Go!'.... At the time the song was in it's first week on the United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles chart at position #38, three weeks later it would peak at #14 {for 2 weeks} and it spent twelve weeks on the Top 50... And on the same 'RSG!' show he also performed the record's B-side, "Nothin' Shakin' (But The Leaves On The Trees}"... Between 1959 and 1983 the Liverpool native had thirty records on the U.K. Singles chart, eleven made the Top 10 with his biggest hit being "Jealousy"*, it peaked at #2* for one week in 1965... He just missed having three more #2 records when three of his records peaked at #3; "Halfway To Paradise" {1961}, "Like I've Never Been Gone" {1963}, and "When Will You Say I Love You" {1963}... Billy Fury, born Ronald Wycherley, passed away at the young age of 42 on January 28th, 1983 {heart attack}... May he R.I.P. * The week "Jealousy" was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Kon-Tiki" by the Shadows...
Great cover of Vic Dana's "I Will." Billy Fury somehow manages to express his Elvis-isms while still looking natural, as if it were "his" (Which, because he's sincere, it is!) I believe this clip is from the British rock show "Ready, Steady, Go!" (which I got on vhs sooo long ago.) And yes, Billy's "Play It Cool" is one of my favorite rock n' roll flicks!
Well then, A Happy (tho' belated) 41st. Anniversary to you and your hubby! That is fantastic! If your hubby can sing like Billy, You are one lucky lady! Bless And wishes for many more!
This guys songs are engrained in my DNA having listened to him since I was a young boy. He's had a great influence on my own music too of course. Great songs...
i love this video it shows how honest billy really was very polite approachable ..and very talented my faviorate all time singer i was lucky enough to see him live.. he was such a star and stayed for hours signing autographs and actually entered into conversation with everyone he loved his fans and loved animals such a warm person he was taken too soon thanks for the memories billy r.i.p
Saw him many times, he was quiet and cute. He made good some songs. This crew of Marty Wilde,The Crickets,Johnny ?? Eden Kane.toured a lot together..and although I was in his fan club, never in a million years could he be classed as better than Elvis...
I`ve just listened to the CD "His Wondrous Story",which I was given last Xmas. I always thought he was great, but the second half of this CD introduced me to songs I hadn`t heard before. There`s a fabulous assortment, shades of Gene Pitney and Elvis, but in the end it`s his own raw talent that you remember. He`s not just "Halfway to Paridise",most people`s favourite, just like Connie Francis is not "Lipstick on Your Collar". Listen to her sing "Siboney"to understand. Billy:unmatched.
Courageous singing given the bittersweet words. As a poet, I couldn't help but get teary eyed. He was not obnoxious with these ballads or a show off like his other colleagues / fellow musicians.
O Billy how i love you I Say this from my heart There,s never been another Its been you from the start I know youv,e been in love before First with Margo then Collette But with the love i offer you These you will forget I dont need a judge Nor do i need a jury To tell me theres no-one i love As much a Billy Fury
@peggynag Hi, Just viewed the film again. At 1.18 -1.20 you will see Cathy dancing with Lionel Morton of the Four Pennies. I think at 1.41 -1.42 there is a brief glimpse of someone who "could" be Sandie Shaw. About 25 years ago I saw Adam Faith jogging in Battersea Park in South London. He seemed a nice bloke.
On 10 May 1960 Fury was a star looking for a backup band. Guess who turned up to audition??John, Paul,George,Stuart,The Silver Beetles, along with stand-in drummer Johnny Hutchinson(Their drummer at the time,Tommy Moore did not arrive until later) lost the chance to back Fury. That group turned out to be The Beatles!!!
Super video and great singer. Thanks.

That would be "The Sound Of Fury". He was the first British rocker to write his own rock n' roll songs.
Billy Fury was responsible for some of the most beautiful songs to come out of the 60s. R.I.P Billy. Gone but never forgotten....
And don’t forget he wrote most of his own songs. ❤
This performance is from the "Ready Steady Go" Friday night TV Show. The Weekend Starts Here! As ever, Bill in top form.
Without Doubt The Best Song He Recorded & By Far The Best UK Singer/Songwriter

I do so hope that these old clips are saved by the british film institue or somewhere. I never got to see Billy live, he died when I was a teen but he is one of my favortie artists of all time.

1962: great time when I was 18. On both sides of the pond, the 'teen idols' were living on borrowed time.
BILLY 4 EVER..MISS HIM SO
He was brilliant, Billy fury the 60s way always 100%respect for his music and brilliant always have total respect for Billy fury a master class in British music 100% respect

God takes all the legends! He wants them all to himself!
his shy~ness made him so..apealing...!
Billy was the on the Bill. One of the best singers of the '60's, and, perhaps of all time?
No one compared to BiIly.I never liked Elvis, but Billy was exceptional.I loved him in my teen and wrote his name all over my school books.I still get tearful thinking of his short life and how ill he looked at the end.RIP Billy
I could listen to him forever...............Brilliant
At the beginning he looks so much like Elvis ! I love Billy Fury!! ♥♥♥
They don't make 'em like this no-more! Rock 'n' Roll! :)
Agreed, it was very sad that he lived that long instead of earlier, like some people did when their lifetime was over for good or worse than that sometimes.
So glad that i found this, what a voice. So sad that he died so young.

no comments on this medium can really portray the talent that this young man had in abundance

Great production!! This guy could really sing and sing well!! What a voice. One of my favorite British singers!!!
Why doesn't every one Inn the whole wide world love this song?
How he's nearly laughing when he's singing on the steps!
Couldn't agree more - handsome, talented guy, and not a prima-donna like some stars of the 60's
Courageous singing given the bittersweet words. As a poet, I couldn't help but get teary eyed. He was not obnoxious with these ballads or a show off like his other colleagues / fellow musicians.
The man was a genius
O Billy how i love you
I Say this from my heart
There,s never been another
Its been you from the start
I know youv,e been in love before
First with Margo then Collette
But with the love i offer you
These you will forget
I dont need a judge
Nor do i need a jury
To tell me theres no-one i love
As much a Billy Fury
Great poetry I'm sure Billy Fury would have loved these words
Poor boy. Died too soon. He may died pennilless, but he was a great singer, and his charisma just couldn't be bought.
I've read that Billy and many other artists of that time were cheated
by their manager Larry Parnes.
Who was a real sleeze....
@peggynag
