    In this video fish Veterinarian Doctor Loh revisits an Oscar which previously had eye surgery to remove a diseased "popped" eye. Although all seemed fine for some time, something in the eye socket began growing and bleeding so Dr Loh was called in to investigate and in this video he shares his findings.

      I'm so sorry for your loss... but I want to thank you for taking care of your oscar because fish are some of the most abused and misunderstood pets in general. Thank you also for letting dr Loh take video of your fish and the operations, it's so important for educational purposes. I hope the next year is better for you. :)

    So happy to see that respect was shown for Oscar. Even though he may have passed away, it is CLEAR that you intervening improved his quality of life. Just like a human, enjoying a shorter, more fulfilling and pain-free life is much better than suffering for a long time. It's just so interesting to see the parallels between fish and humans. I've always known fish were intelligent creatures, but your channel has made me realise just how complex their systems are and how similar they are to us. Rest in peace, little Oscar.

      I don't think there's a viral cause to this, though we've not investigated beyond histology. Neoplasia of the eye and kidneys are not uncommon in oscars.

    Oscars in dirty waters are really sensitive to all kinds of infections around the head. The water in that tank looked on the grey side..hazy. They seem not too fussy on PH...they might be from the Amazon,but look how they thrive in the waters of south Florida full of limestone rock. So,I think high water quality low in pathogens, pollutants, is what's important.
    I'm still waiting Doc for you to take on fatty Arowana eye. What's the cause? Water? Diet?...is there a cure by pill? or surgery only?

    • @KOv997
      @KOv997 4 года назад

      Water was only dirty due to trying to catch oscar out and having to move wood and rocks. Tank is 1000L and gets 600L weekly

      @@KOv997 I believe you..I see it was one of your older fish too. They do get so many problems -serious problems- with tumors,head in hole disease. Maybe it's just what they do eventually. I've kept them...large ones also.

      Luckily, in a way, that that's just due to trauma, rather than a cancer. Most Fish have a sixth sense, their lateral line, making it easy for them to adapt to loss of vision.

    Hi great uploads
    I have a Question what causes popeye in freshwater mollies, and what the best medicine, I checked your page and couldn't find any video on it thanks

    • @thefishdoctor8746
      @thefishdoctor8746  4 года назад

      That's not a straight forward question to answer, since pop eye can be due to several reasons. Most commonly due to septicaemia, however, cancers (such as this case), trauma, gas bubble disease, genetics and obesity are some possibilities.

    If my betta has Popeye, could that also cause him to lose buoyancy and sink?

    • @thefishdoctor8746
      @thefishdoctor8746  4 года назад +2

      If he's got pop-eye, it's a sign of very serious disease and you'll need urgent veterinary attention to save him. We could be dealing with septicaemia. Behavioral and buoyancy changes will accompany such diseases.
