  • At 12:30pm today, Frankie Wainman Jnr & Phoebe Wainman-Hawkins were invited onto the main stage at the Autosport International show to talk about BriSCA F1 with Sky Sports F1 presenter Natalie Pinkham.
As soon as the car fired up it generated a lot of interest. An excellent interview and coverage for the sport.

Whatever anyone might say about the Wainman family they are great ambassadors for the sport

About 40 years ago, my parents would drag me and my sister up to Coventry. As I got older and didnt need baby sitting, I stopped going and would babysit my sister.
Only when my dad died and I was reminiscing about how much he loved this sport did I think to go back.
For the last 3 years I have gone to as many meetings as I can afford.
I am truly hooked, the sound and thumping in my chest brings tears of excitement to my eye. Even now, I cant wait for March and the first meeting at Kings Lynn to come around.

A shame it was to pointless Pinkham when it could of been Lee McKenzie or Louise Goodman... Half the F1 drivers don't even like her.

@@carlleedham6256 A tiny bit of background knowlege wouldn't of gone a miss and not pulling Frankie up when he was clearly nervous.. I'm an old Lundy fan and Frankie and his Dad were the enemy when I was a kid.. but great interview by themselves.. Sold stock cars really well.

I'm a old supporter of F1s ( Doug Cronshaw #396) i have to say the wainman influence in the sport has been massive, its not just the cars he builds but also repairs.
There are good embassadors for the sport and its good to see the 515 car competing at the top.
The sport from my point of view is cost, i can live with my costs but £200 a tyre and engines or engine parts hard to get hold of, thats crazy, the sport should have at least a backup in England for any part for any driver.
Would be nice if we could encourage a driving school for new drivers coming into the sport with technical support from top drivers of the past ( Andy/Stu Smith) etc.
I hope F1 is here to stay and re-open Coventry.

Sadlly the comment 'there is a track within 30 minutes of everyone' hit me. I miss stock cars so much, to get to my nearest track is 3 and 1/2 hours each way. As a child I cycled over fields to get to my nearest track.

@nigelbaldwin752. I know your pain, I'm in south Essex, so apart from Ipswich, which is tarmac - so not nearly as fun as shale, my nearest tracks are Mildenhall and Kings Lynn.
But I love this sport so much, 3 hours drive is a small price.
Also me and the wife are hoping to tick off the last few UK tracks this year, so a couple of long weekends in Sheffield and Bradford coming up.

I was never lucky enough to live that close to a track, but me and my dad regularly went to Coventry which wasn’t too far away… I miss that place so much

100% agree, closest track to me is Hednesford or Buxton and they are hour away on a good day. If I want to do Kings Lynn etc then it's an overnighter for me and at that point it's £200+ to attend any meeting by the time I've paid for the hotel, food, drink, fuel etc. My attendance of meetings has dropped significantly since they shut Belle Vue, Stoke, Coventry, Birmingham etc.

@@superbrit3845 sounds like we might live on the same street lol.
Buxton is my closest now too (I’ve moved a couple of times since Coventry closed… still not any closer to a track lol). When Stoke closed I lived within about 15/20 minutes of the place… glad I was at the final event that took place.
Went to Birmingham a lot too!

Well done the Wainman, I agree the sport is infectious…. But it’s all let down by Admmission costs and poor track facilties, cold, wet in winter.
