Apparently there is a playbook for interviewers where they are obligated to feign shock, surprise and censure at RGV's shenanigans even though said shenanigans have been common knowledge for decades. RGV's responses to this style of questioning are often belligerent and humorless instead of witty or sarcastic - as if he's offended by them being offended. One thing I don't get is his constant refrain that he respects or admires women's beauty. Who doesn't? Practically all art from the times of the caveman till now is about the beauty of women. The only thing that is different about RGV is he likes to express his so-called respect in the crassest way possible.
Notes for the next person interviewing RGV:
1. Is it possible that with the passage of time, RGV finding himself unable to enthuse the public with his work, has taken to other means to rile them up, whether that's through constant potshots at Pawan - an insignificant regional figure - or his sexually fawning videos with insignificant starlets?
2. RGV sometimes seems to assume that all men (and perhaps all women) are raging sexual maniacs but only pretend to be normal and respectable because of social conditioning and the fear of stigmatization. But what if this is untrue? What if there is a bell curve of sexual desire with a small percentage of people (of both genders) being highly sexual while the vast majority are average? RGV's perspective may be distorted by his position at the extreme end of the curve, and the fact that the film industry has traditionally attracted precisely this category of highly sexual people that he belongs to. In other words, the "typical mind fallacy" in action.
3. While artists in general and filmmakers in particular have typically sublimated their passions, desires and fetishes in their work, RGV as a highly self-conscious filmmaker is unable to do so. In his work, the desire and the art come apart. As a consequence, you have videos, tweets and shorts where the crassness is unalleviated by art, and films like Ice Cream 2 and Ladki where his leering camera often breaks the flow and yanks viewers out of their immersion in the story.
4. I think RGV's telos is the kind of sexploitation films Roger Corman, Russ Meyer or Jim Wynorski (for example 1984's "The Lost Empire") used to make, but for various reasons he is failing at even this. Those reasons include the more restrictive cultural atmosphere in India, the lack of extremely beautiful, sexy and uninhibited women those Hollywood filmmakers had access to, his insane camerawork that robs everything onscreen of their beauty...I could go on and on.
