Saving the world's rarest great ape: the Tapanuli Orangutan

- The Batang Toru Dam is being built right in the middle of the Tapanuli orangutan’s habitat in Indonesia - threatening the survival of the world’s most endangered species of great ape.
This disastrous dam project was recently bought by Chinese company State Development & Investment Corporation (SDIC).
We call on SDIC’s Scotland-based subsidiary Red Rock Power to formally raise the dam project with their parent company, and implore them to halt the dam’s construction before it’s too late.

Tapanuli orangutans are the critically endangered only 800 left in the wild. Saving the rest of their habitat from human hands depended on their survival.
Are these a newly discovered sub-species of Borneo and/or Sumatran orangutans?
We have to do more to save these beautiful creatures.
@Sandra Lee Until Elephants and Apes can create and run complex governments and societies, cure diseases and develop vaccines, grow and cultivate crops,and are created in the likeness of almightd God then we can discuss their lives being just as important as a human being . From what I gather they wander around for 50-80 years in the wild never leaving their mother for most of them, grunting, snorting and destroying everything in their path. How impressive !! Not,! We are created in the likeness of God and are his divine creation. We are each precious with t, and have been given CHARGE AND DOMINON over the beasts of the earth. Not equality but dominion! It's the left wing atheist animal worshipping scum trying to push this ridiculous idea that an elephant life is equal to that of a human being. Never will be!!! We have the right of way to build, expand and prosper the human race. If you want to be an idiot and cry over these instinct driven beasts who would stomp you to death in a heartbeat if it was hungry. Go for it! And I'm sure you will find lonely, insecure, unintelligent or mentally ill people to agree with you. Those of us who know who we are in God will fight your ridiculous agenda to the last. Thanks for sharing this video & showing us these crtically endangered orangutans. We badly need to figure out to ban & n8t use products. Palm oil is used in so many priducts & manufacturers use other terms for palm oil. It's power & greed for these plantation palm oil owners. And, we in turn are part of problem. It's a cyclical, systemic problem.

It is so unhealthy. Hawaii put out a huge campaign a few years back, because the majority of people were obese and people dieing age 40 - from clogged arteries...alk from consuming palm oil! In Canada, its in everything now. Margarine, coffee cream, baked goods. Its terrible! But because Hawaii wiser now. They need to sell it somewhere. I guess our government thinks were stupid?! I was thinking of protesting at grocery stores and manufacturers?!
Most Indonesian palm oil goes to India and Pakistan to make laundry detergent. India's population has overtaken china's too. The market there is now so huge it's going to be nearly impossible to stop the Indonesian govt from selling everything out the way it almost has already.
Batang Toru needs to be officially declared a major conservation area and given top priority among Indonesia's conservation lands. In fact, it should be added to Sumatra's rain forest heritage sites. IMO.
Hard to believe such a beautiful natural area was subjected to such brutal maltreatment.
All development at Batang Toru needs to be halted.
