Judging the babies hairdo, I think the baby was a little surprised about being born too. Lol
Very true , and very funny
😃
So, so beautiful. My husband and I hope to go out as volunteers in a couple of years. You'd never get me back❤️👫
That's so funny 😂
😂😂😂
I see why mom keeps getting pregnant. Dad is MAGNIFICENT!☺
😆😆 he is very majestic isn’t he?!
Lol and she has no other competition
A magnificent pile of 💩
Yes…
With a wildly cute kid like that how could you not adore it???
It's lovely that reproduction is increasing but my understanding is that the young orangutans need several years with direct care to survive well. Its a nurture thing yes?
Yes
They’re zoo animals. The mom and the elder daughter would not behave normally as they would in the wild.
Maybe move older sister into a different location?
I’m not sure if having another baby when the first born isn’t even 2 years old is ideal or not but in the wild orangutans live with their mums for 7 years before they part ways
Yes, but they are in a zoo, and they can be taught how to forage and beware of predators from humans also.
So cute. Poor Tutti.
I found it kind of strange that they didn't pick up on certain behaviors that would pinpoint that she is pregnant, I mean, they aren't the average person on the street, they are zookeepers/zoologists trained in this sort of thing. Anyway, I love orangutans, they are so chill the most chill of all the apes!
That might have been because they didn't expect it for at least another year, and also, like humans, orangutans can not show too much, or have many symptoms of pregnancy. And if they weren't looking, they easily could have chocked it up to her current young one, not a new one on the way. Hindsight ya know?
Some times even humans don't know they are pregnant till labor pains start and baby arrives
It's great that she feels safe enough to have another kid, but the idea that the first baby has to 'grow up quicker' sound more like they don't want to think about the mental impact neglect can have, its too that she wasn't fully pushed away but the zookeepers idea of 'growing up' i.e neglect could have seriously caused problems if the mum hadn't been attentive.
It seemed to me that they were holding back to see how it went before stepping in. That they were also worried about that, but didn't want to step in, and couldn't really step in very well, and were just waiting to see how it played out a bit before deciding.
@@jenniferredd1430 I hope so, but yea like you say itd be finicky to try and step in while also not being too hands on
Like IT had any choice in the matter. Don't believe everything you read it just makes you sound like an idiot Mynah bird.😯😖🤪🥴

GIVE BIG SISTER SOME EXTRA SPECIAL ATTENTION SHE NEEDS THAT
I didn’t know I was pregnant, Orangutan edition
More soon please I was getting into that and that was all of it!!!!!poor little thing have to grow up too fast
Which is not the norm so that poor toddler is undergoing something that is unnatural just like her mother. Can't understand why the zoo vets didn't even know the mother was pregnant so I guess they don't do regular physical check ups. Plus, what do they expect when the orangutans are in captivity so the grown male could have his way with the adult female when he wants to, unfortunately.
@@whatevergoesforme5129 The zookeepers probably assumed there was no way she'd get pregnant again so quickly. Obviously a mistake. Hopefully more zoos will start putting their females on birth control to prevent non-ideal outcomes like this.
@@grifter84 yes, too bad she was allowed to have another one so soon. They should have anticipated if it was physically possible that it could happen. The mom certainly didn't need the added stress on her body and of course not fair for the first baby either. The females need to be on birth control unless are planning to breed them. I guess they learned their lesson at the expense of mom and the babies!
Such wonderful relatives to have...

Poor tootie, such a strong independent baby girl❤️
Does Subis still let Tuti feed from her? @5:43 looks like Tuti is hesitant
1st thing I think about is DIPPY DO. 😂 They are so cute 🥰
What a horrible environment! Too much concrete and restricted spaces. You have shown lots of other animals, are their “ cages” just as small? I don’t know much about your park and whether you have adequate sponsored budgets to give any mental stimulation for each type of animal but hopefully someone would com to your aid!
This little clip only focuses on this story about the new baby. If you could see whole episodes of the programme- The Secret Life Of The Zoo - you'd see the enclosure is much larger than it appears here and get a more accurate picture of the work that staff do to enhance the lives of the animals.
👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️👋👋👋
Does anyone know why the orangutans and the other animal ( forget name already) but why are they in same enclosure. I thought in the wild they stay to their own groups but separately.
So basically you forced them into an uncomfortable situation. Knowing how they typically live.
I'd like to see the zookeeper who thinks it's comfortable in those inclosures
It’s comfy enough for them
Using CONTRACEPTION would resolve these horrible problems! You sound like you have no control over the situation, a situation which YOU know of and perpetuate! You are in COMPLETE charge of these wild animals and must treat them humanely and appropriately. I KNOW you understand what I mean! It's your turn to show the world that zoos can be the next best thing to being in the wild! Step up.
Not fond of zoos, but it may just be the last safe place for animals.
love these orangutan series
Is it Olivia Colman who's narrating? Right?
That’s what I was wondering!
Is this the mother that had her sister taking care of baby in December and it died a few days later? How did Subis 2 year old daughter go from Siska to Tutti? Your stories aren't in sync.Only 5 months between these 2 births from Subis.
Tutti has her Dad’s nose.
Well, the baby’s birth was unexpected, but at least the zoo is doing a good job at protecting them and making them feel comforted. Recreating a safe and accurate environment for animal enrichment and stimuli is so so important. The fact that they’ve done enough to make Mama speed up her internal clock seems only natural. She doesn't have to worry about her babies because she knows she's in good hands.
I really expected some sibling rivalry, where tuti would try to hurt her little sister out of jealousy 😂 thank god nothing as such happened 💕
I think Tutti lives in such a loving environment that jealousy over Siska isn’t something that occurred to her. Especially in light of the fact that Subis is giving Tutti motherly attention and love.
They all have magnificent hair! In Sumatran heat,, they need less of it.
Why aren’t the males and females kept separate to prevent this from happening?

So sad for little Tutti I hope she can thrive in this new situation. Zoos are not ideal but we humans are greatly responsible for the decline in habitat and numbers, we need to do all we can to help these amazing apes survive and have a positive future.😌❤️
,
If zoos weren’t ideal then the animals wouldn’t feel safe enough to breed. They literally only breed when they’re happy.
Not only are they safe and treated well they have plenty to eat that's another reason why they take so long to have babies in between shelter & food especially
@@teacoon6399 The mother may have felt secure, but this is still a major disruption to Tuti's natural life cycle. Orangutans are supposed to have their mothers' full attention for the first seven years or so. There's still a lot of development she's supposed to undergo while being closely supervised by her mother, and the premature arrival of a sibling might throw off that timetable quite badly.
zoo keeps the tiger away
Unfortunately this does occur in the wild, it just generally results in death for the older individual.
I love the scare hair they have. They always look like they just got out of bed.

Such beautiful creatures
They are beautiful but you have to admit when they are babies they have crazy wild hair lol
@ᚪᚢᛏᚢᛗ ᚱᚪᛇᛝᚹᚪᛏᛠᚱ Yeah, well we aren’t very good at sharing the planet with anyone else, so these orangs at least have a limited habitat, food, and a bit of free will. And enough care that they were able to reproduce without much notice. Many primates are kept as pets or solely as money-making opportunities for people, and others are killed for bush meat. These guys are lucky. Unless we plan to return land to them and curb our desire for using animals for our entertainment, orangs will only exist in zoos and private sanctuaries in the near future. Is it better to let them go extinct now, or should we keep them around in hopes we’ll get our act together in the future and we will be better stewards of the earth? I don’t know.
@ᚪᚢᛏᚢᛗ ᚱᚪᛇᛝᚹᚪᛏᛠᚱ What you are seeing is an indoor sleeping area, the outdoor area is massive. Another person here informed you of the conservation benefit, but I will add in that even Jane Goodall was in support of zoos with these enclosures.
Get your eyes examined, then get a psych test.🤪🥴🤮👿
I clicked on this to see the birth of an orangutan baby. But then I ended up crying. Poor little Tuti. She's still just a baby herself (barely a toddler). And now she has to learn to be on her own. Like a ten year old orangutan.... Ugh
I kind of feel that way about human babies when people have them so close together.
Definitely my favorite animal. They're so smart and beautiful!
Definitely my favorite too. Not sure I feel all that confident of Tuti's new life...I feel broken hearted for her. And VERY disappointed in the Zoo's ability to handle the natural evolution of these beautiful creatures.
@@tracesmith4966 I know the people there have good intentions, but I'm constantly worried about them going extinct and not being able to thrive in their natural environments. They're not like monkeys who have babies about once a year. Mother's usually give birth about every 9 years, so it's going to be so hard to get the numbers back up. It's so sad!
Me too❣️

Have you noticed how this gentleman zoo keeper really loves the orangutans, I get enjoyment watching his expressions and the way he emotionally engages with that species?
Interesting name "Cindy"
Yes this guy clearly loves the Orang-utans immensely, but I have to put in a protest in behalf of humanity, his moustache is God awful and makes him look like a "rock spider", it gives me the creeps so bad that I shudder.🤢🥴🤢🫣
He's great. Everytime I see him with the orangs and talking I can see how much he cares for them, as would I. I would shovel elephant dung just to volunteer and be able to work somewhat with the orangutans.
This was both heart warming and joyful, but in some strange way not quite right. On the other hand two more of these very special creatures increase the number. Great mum, super handsome dad and two adorable daughters
Quantity over quality rarely works out well. Zoos will have more orangutans, yes, but they might end up maladjusted, depressed & mentally ill, in a primate way. Think of unhappy captive birds that pull their own feathers out.
@@elmerbefuddled2156 Plus orangutans are not like chimps and gorillas. They prefer to be solitary in the wild but are forced to be in groups in zoos.
HOw is the toddler orangutan getting enough milk. In sanctuaries, orphaned orangutans are still given milk at age 5.
So sweet when big sister leaned in to give baby sister a kiss @5:42 into the video. Awww
Look at all these internet zookeeper’s comment. LMAO
You would think in a Zoo they would test the urine more. One of the main things in my mind that makes having these guys in a zoo is keeping them safe and looking after their health. Letting her go 9 months with out knowing is just wrong. A human mother needs to be watch by a Dr. as she is carrying a baby for 9 months just like an Orangutan. If they are mating you should be checking just in case. I know in the wild Orangutans just roll with what happens but in a Zoo their life is in the keepers hands from Keeping them happy too making sure they are safe and looked after a lot can go wrong during a pregnancy and if your going to take care of them then by all means do it right.
Can a "baby" learn to be an orangutan in only two years? Without mom's undivided attention?
The father's fur is super impressive! I never knew their body hair could grow that long O:
Nah. This is so wrong. The keepers must feed tuttinor else, he won't be able to have proper nutrition that he should be getting from his mom
Keepers can and will start independently feeding Tuti if she start getting thinner. They will do whatever they can to make her feel safe.
what an amazing little girl, no signs of jealousy?
Having babies so close together show what a great job these guys are doing. 💖💖💖💖
Well, in the wild it is not natural for the older child to be ignored by her mom. This is the problem of animals in captivity. Their environment and care go against nature and messes with the natural order of things. If you watch videos of orangutan sanctuaries, orangutans as old as 5 years are still a bit attached to their surrogate moms. What more with those toddlers 3 and below?
Evolution.
@@teacoon6399 Nope since evolution is natural. More like TAMPERING WITH NATURE.
@@whatevergoesforme5129 evolution it still is. A change in a species is still evolution, no matter how it came about. They are changing to adapt better to their environment
@@TerranTaro Naaah, evolution takes a lot of time to happen because it is supposed to be natural. Human intervention that changes behavior is not part of evolution. Just like social engineering, which is tampering with human social behavior, is not human evolution. It is behavior modification done outside natural setting. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
@@TerranTaro Evolution is a change in memberS of a species over time. Not a single orangutan having a baby 6 years earlier because she’s in captivity, at best if every captive orangutan started having babies much sooner after their last birth it would be artificial selection. There’s nothing natural about their captivity and circumstances that would cause her to have another baby so soon. Evolution had nothing to do with her second baby, and the male in the enclosure had barely more. Animals will spontaneously abort more often than not if it’s not the right time. Them being kept in groups (extra hands) and being fed regularly (low stress and unlimited food) is what’s responsible for her extra birth, neither of which would be found in their wild.
Love babies with sticking out hair, human or animal!
“He’s not a hands on dad” that’s hysterical.....
Sure is.
This is almost unheard of in the wild. Orangutans stay with their mothers for around 8 yrs because there's so much to learn, plus, they're not fully weaned until around 5 yrs.
I agree. After watching a lot of videos from BOS, I can't understand why this zoo's vet is so clueless. He didn't even know the mother orangutan was pregnant so that is very telling--no regular physical check ups. So no one noticed if the mother had a bulging belly, even a small one?
@@whatevergoesforme5129 It's possible the vets didn't know she was pregnant, especially if this zoo has a hands off policy with the animals, something that many do. That said, one of the first signs of pregnancy in orangutans is a swollen vulva, something I would expect the keepers to notice as they work with the orangutans on a daily basis but I don't know how much close up interaction there is. What surprised me the most, however, is the very short amount of time between births. I know captive orangutans don't need 8 yrs to teach their babies how to live in the wild but babies aren't fully weaned until around 5 yrs old so this mother is probably nursing both. It's just a surprising situation to me.
@@Cara-39 For me, I wonder why they are surprised when an adult male orangutan is in the enclosure with them. In the wild, this would not happen. One commenter reacted to my term "rape " LOL and said orangutans have sex for fun like the bonobos but I doubt this was for fun. I may be wrong and the adult female was receptive but she still has a toddler to nurse. And the male orangutan can easily overpower her if he wants to so it can be forced sex. But all of these are speculations anyway since I am using how orangutans behave in the wild as my point of reference. However, I just believe and it is my opinion that the vets of this zoo have been incompetent. So poor mother and poor toddler. It is unnatural for orangutan to nurse and raise two at the same time.
@@whatevergoesforme5129 What is more likely? The vets at the zoo being incompetent or you as an amateur not having all the knowledge about this topic so it's possible you don't even know what you are talking about?
@@slovnicurling9808 As usual, the fallacy of appeal to authority. Go watch the videos of BOS or IAR or RedApes. What i said came from their vets and primatologists. But hey, if you love incompetent vets and zookeepers, that is up to you.
I red that Orangutans nurse their young for 3 years. I'm surprised at Chichi's mother.
Why didn’t the zoo give her a hormonal implant? That’s really unfair to her first baby-in nature she would have her mom’s full attention for 9 years at least. She’s not a human, this isn’t just sibling rivalry or jealousy. Really irresponsible of the zoo.
It happens in the wild too. They have sex and give birth. They have like 10 babies in their lifetime. Do they habe implants in the wild? No!
The Zoo looks awful ! Too much concrete ! Where are the trees grass? You think these Zoos would know better!
I'm tending to think that that part was just inside the ape house. And when they go outside it's different.
Yes. That's Chester Zoo in England. I watch their show all the time.
They do. If you could see more of the programme than just this clip you'd have a much better idea of what it really looks like.
I think the mom didn’t have a choice. Now this sucks for the two year old.
He’s the dominant male, females are more likely to initiate sex
If that lady didn't want another baby, she wouldn't have had another baby
Her body... Her choice! 🤣
Poor little Tootie!
Does she still nurse from mom?
I was wondering that also. She is very young to be fully weaned. I wonder if her mom allows her to nurse some.
Yes
can relate, first born child always have it hard
We were at the SANDEGIO ZOO AND A LADY BENT OVER TO FEED A TON OF THESES TYPES THEY PULLED HER IN AND WOULD not let go. My dad jumped on and battle was on . Yhey were just playing . Stay calm so they dont bite. Well we got her out . Dont do that. Then were at the zoo in new mexico. And my dad had a leather coat a camel grab the coat and would not let go pulling him toward the fence very strong. That was bit of a fight so nerve racking. I wanted to see the gorillas. They were across the way and turned around and it was on. Be careful at the zoo.
THERE IS ALWAYS A CHANCE A MOTHER MAY REJECT A BABY BECAUSE SHE ALREADY HAS ONE. THIS IS NOT FAIR FOR THAT FIRST LITTLE BABY.
She didn't.
This is why animals should stay in the wild .
Oh no she felt too safe and had another baby, the horror! Chuck her back in the wild to suffer fear then.
If people would stop taking away their homes to grow palm oil, they COULD stay in the wild, and we would not have to try to keep the species alive in captivity.
That would be ideal, but humans are destroying their habitat so there's hardly anywhere wild left for them.
What a darling little one, his hair style is, as usual, so funny.

I love these apes and can watch them for ever. I hope they will be with us for ever as well but their habitat is so fragile and so limited. I find them to be the most human apes on the planet and think of them as a family member...the mature ones to be showered with the tastiest food bits and the babies to be spoiled and loved.
We shouldn’t mess with nature. If the average is nine years in the wild it should stay nine years.
It’s safer, especially in enclosures, to allow them to breed when they’re ready than it would be to give them hormones to prevent pregnancy. It’s not like they’re *trying* to get them pregnant or break records.
Theyre not forcing them to have babies. The momma just felt safer and did it herself. Its so weird to hear that people don't want them to feel safe.
