    This is a great turntable and highly recommend for anyone getting into vinyl for the first time. As you demonstrated, an easy to use table. I purchased one for my daughter 5 years ago. When I saw she was serious about vinyl I upgraded her to a Fluance RT85 w/acrylic platter.
    My only criticism of the AT60 is the manual up/down can lose its finesse over time and simply drop down abruptly.

      I would totally agree I am relatively new at collecting vinyls I started collecting them last year and I got the audio technical a couple weeks ago as an upgrade and I didn’t even have to look at the instructions I figured it out very easy and very quick I was surprised that me A person who struggle setting up stuff that has to do with a bunch of cords and stuff I was able to do it by myself easy Peezy I had it set up in less than five minutes it was so fast it sounds great as well I got me a cheap speaker because I didn’t want nothing loud and it still sounds phenomenal

    Excellent and clear cut set up video. The first TT I bought was the original Audio Technica LP60. It was a surprisingly good sounding table for the money. I have since upgraded to a Project Debut Carbon Evo but I still miss the automatic return! Would make a KNIGHT gift for a friend just getting into the hobby. If you have it hooked to a vintage receiver, just switch the line in to the phono setting.

    Nice video. One of the only points I disagree with is that having the lid up will grant better sound. From tests that I know of, to actually make the lid have an impact you need to listen at extreme volumes beyond what most are comfortable with. But even if there is a small effect at normal volume, the tests showed that both lid off and down had their benefits, since off removed more resonance, but lid down also protected from reflected vibrations. The worst was actually lid up since that acts most as a vibration trap.

    • @thevinylattack
      @thevinylattack  3 года назад +3

      I'd imagine that it has much to do with the playing environment and equipment used, but in my experience it sounds better. However, that's just an opinion and others might prefer the sound of the lid down. Thankfully it's easy to test for ones self.

    • @leon9021
      @leon9021 3 года назад

      @@thevinylattack Well it would be interesting and pretty easy to test too I suppose. Just make recordings of the 3 options and ask participants what they think is what. Id be surprised if they could tell them apart, unless again its at extreme volumes.

      @dustinrue 3 года назад

    I made the mistake of purchasing a Crowley early on. After playing 30 seconds of a record, I immediately packaged it up, and returned it. It sounded horrendous. I then did a little research and purchased the AT-LP60, Bluetooth edition and was really happy with this gateway drug to my vinyl obsession. I have since upgraded but have sold and recommended the AT-LP60 to many who are looking to get into analog sound. Even bought one for my mom for Xmas and she loves it. KNIGHT.

    Thanks for this nice review! It's so good for me as a beginner to read a review from someone who doesn't act as a audiophile snob which says don't buy these type of players because they are crap and buy something which is 300-400 dollars more which is rediculous advice for a beginner who doesn't even know if the hobby will stick.
    So I bought the LP60X to start with :) But a quick question if I might ask. To you advise to use the phono stage on the LP60x or use the one which comes with the receiver. My receiver is a Denon AVR-X1600H and I am using a 2 meter long cable?

    • @boristahmasian9604
      @boristahmasian9604 Год назад +1

      Hi Peter, you are absolutely on point. I bought an LP60 for my wife with the same mindset. I went with LP60 to see if it was a passing interest or a real one. I have an Onkyo TX-NR787 and neither the LP60 nor the receiver's preamp gave me a full sound. I ended up buying a DJPre-II preamp and it improved the sound a lot. I am not an expert or snob but I knew something was amiss. I ordered an RT82 and the sound difference is very noticeable. Meanwhile, she has bought two dozen records, far exceeding the cost of the RT82! I think, I have opened a can of worms with no end in sight. Ouch!!
      With all this said, the main advantage of LP60 is full automation. Listening to an RT82 or any other manual turntable is a much more deliberate exercise and requires constant monitoring to make sure you do not damage the equipment (mainly the stylus).

    Very important that this end of the market gets the coverage it deserves. I’m always asked what’s a good upgrade from the Crosley, and the AT as well as the similar Sony are my first sub £150 recommendation.
    Too many channels focus on High end and future-Fi components, so refreshing to see this end of the market covered.

    Excellent tutorial. I learned what passes for automatic these days. I always think of automatic as putting up to seven albums or as many 45s as could be fitted and playing the whole stack. Double albums used to come with their sides numbered so that you could stack side two above side one; flip both and play side three and side four. Nowadays, side two is on the reverse of one; side four on the reverse of side three- each record must be played individually in order to maintain the sequence. I like your channel for your straight-on delivery, although you talk almost too fast for the ears of this old knight who has spent the last thirty years below the Mason-Dixon Line. 🙂
    Edit: One quibble, though, you shouldn’t lump ‘phono input’ in with ‘line’ or ‘aux’ they are designed for different voltage levels. Although another option is ‘tape monitor’ on older integrated amps or receivers. Or perhaps the turntable in question can sense and adapt itself. In either case, some explanation is due, in my opinion. (I know, I’m being as asshole.)

    • @thevinylattack
      @thevinylattack  3 года назад

      With this table you can use any of those inputs interchangeably, but I didn't make it as clear as should be that you'd need to select line for everything but a phono input. Thanks.

    I have 3 TT's in my life, since I'm constantly surrounded by vinyl records. I have a very high end (for me) Thorens and mid range Denon (love the sound) and in my workshop.....the LP60! This is the TT that I abuse the most. But it keeps going and going. Spinning away at least 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. So far it has over 6000 hours on it. While it doesn't hold a candle to my other TT's, it has provided countless hours of entertainment. I did buy an upgraded stylus and belt from LP Gear, and I did put a rubber mat on it. I would consider this a good inexpensive entry TT.

    I started out with a turntable with the exact same design as the LP-60 (a RCA Lab-1200). I usually recommend to people starting out to save up for something with a bit more upgradability and a more premium build, but if you have a set budget starting somewhere is always better than never starting at all. Besides I probably wouldn't have gotten bit by the vinyl bug if it werent for that "starter" turntable, which im sure the same is true for many others in the vinyl community.
    If I win the turntable ill probably give it to my sister as she has been interested in getting into the hobby, and it would be cool to dig out the old turntable from the depths of my garage and compare it to see how much if any that design has changed. KNIGHT

    I KNIGHT be interested in a free AT LP 60! Seriously, great review, hadn't considered this one a viable option for a second budget TT station at my office, but your review may have swayed me to put this one in the mix. Thanks for sharing.

    and you've got the stock market beat.
    But the man worthwhile
