- The Sn95 Mustang platform has a lot of options when choosing a build motor. We're going to discuss what motors are available and which one I think is best.

Like you said everyone builds for their own reasons. The quarter mile bug never bit me and I live surrounded by long curvy roads through fields and forests and mountain scenery so I'm more interested in the intangible "Is It Fun To Drive This Car?" than any kind of horsepower number or track time.
You're right though if acceleration is a priority the only reason to build a 3.8 is if you just love a challenge and you're still gonna lose to somebody who spent half as much money on their V8
Right now I have just as much fun driving my almost stock 3.8 as I do driving my slightly spicy 5.0 so for me the answer to your question is the best engine is whatever you have in the car right now. Dial it in to run the best it possibly can, take good care of it and try to see a row of 9's in the odometer.
If I spent time at the track though I gotta pick the 4V motor.. something about pulling smooth over 7k rpm and still making power seals the deal on that one.
I've had 18 mustangs most 5.0 there is also another 2004 anniversary v6 3.9l I have one woih over 340,000 miles never been rebuilt same stock auto trans never been touched. I've had every single motor and nothing takes the abuse or outlast a 4.62v I had one with 454,000 miles completely stock. Drove it 100 000miles a year on it and floored it every day . Had to replace batteries tires and clutch 1 time and sold it.i would rather have a 4.6 2v than any motor. Thanks good video.
Great feedback. Only parts I had to replace on mod motors were timing components. Outside of that, they are pretty stout.
@@SN95Power if you think about it they were for a long time put in vans, trucks , every cab ,and police car I’ve heard they were built in more than 5.0,4.6 4v,and all New 5.0’s combined. They were not the fastest but most durable by far. Thanks
The 3.8l is a good motor for beginners. I spend less money on my 1994 v6 than my 1994 v8. I built both of my motors, my v6 is a 3.8l with apr head studs with a m90 supercharger with a water to air intercooler, ported heads.... ect. The v8 5.0L forged crank, pistons, connector rod, t shape oil pan, aluminum heads, a girdle for the bottom and top of the block, apr head studs.... ect. I love both cars, I drive the v6 for fun and to catch people off guard but the v8 is more showing off and for racing. I also have biuld an 4.6l interceptor and it loves the highway. Each type of ford engine have pros and cons, its up to the builder to fixed to cons or to chang the engine for the task.
How much horsepower you end up getting out of them?
I have a 87 Foxbody notchback which is fun to drive .I also have my late Dads 96 V6 it has only 80k miles on the odometer. Its moonlight blue. I have not a clue what im about to do with it. That car has really grown on me. I appreciate this car more since Ive been watching your videos and others on the 94-99 Mustangs. ✔
Even if you do nothing but cruise in it, I'm sure your dad will be looking down smiling.
@@SN95Power Thanks will do. 😁✔
I love this channel! We all love our mustangs. I've had my love/hate relationship with these particular platforms. I still love them and I'm actually/probably going to buy a '94 5.0 convertible in the next few days if he doesn't sell it out from under me! Love these cars!!❤️❤️❤️
Heck yeah, pushrod gang. Appreciate your support
Just got a 98 and I am glad I found your channel, I am excited to build a sn95 , as I have built a fox body.
Welcome aboard! What plans do you have for it?
@SN95 Power starting out with suspension, get it a lot tighter and stick a lot better then brakes and power. Just like a street car out of it , 350 to 425hp have a fox that is 588 to the tire
@@oldguysgarage5874 Nice!
@SN95 Power so started combing back through your videos to get ideas for the car. So far I am seeing get a 4.6 from a Lincoln MarkVIII is the best purchase
5.0 HO all the way, while the supercharged 3.8's from the SC's & XR7's are cool and all I just love 😍 small block fords. That's why I own a 1993 Thunderbird lx 5.0 HO, you could only get the Five-oh from 91-93 in these cars.
You could get the 5.0 in other years too but not the ho. My 86 tbird had a non ho 5.0. I don't think thr ho 5.0 in tbirds had as much hp as the mustang ho version not sure honestly on that.
@@midnight347 it's Slightly lower due to the mn12 t-birds, like I have, sharing the same exhaust piping as the v6 birds. I forget the exact figure but it's something like 215 vs 225hp in a fox. I heard somewhere that the '93 thunderbirds like mine have the same bumpstick as the '93 cobra, but I haven't been able to confirm, as I haven't removed my factory cam yet. I have an SN95 5.0 cobra intake to go on it waiting in a box, I wanna get a set of heads and a cam but everything in time I'm still rebuilding the last bit of suspension I haven't got to.
The 94 stangs also had them
Ford performance 5.3 short block with either Trick flow heads or 4v with Foxlake B heads, paired with a T56.
Good video! My favorite is the 4.6 4v with 9 thread heads.
Me to mike 🌴😁🌴
I would agree with you as far as the one kit. Maybe upgrade a few things right outta the gate to save urself some headache though. I believe the best engine to go with without opening the engine for any work is the 4.6 4v. Thats the king daddy as far as throw it in without any machine work or porting to reach ur goal of a fast street car
9.5 Deck SBF 427ci with twins or big single turbo 👌
After reviewing most of your videos I decided to get 3 mustangs 2015 what the a coyote (for high HP/trq build and 2 sn95 for a more mild build but still a a everyday use . Thank you for your experience and advice.
Sounds like a great stable
Im working on mine, since the original engine blew up~ So far I gotten 347 blue print, Im putting in an 4150 Holley Carb EFI / Want an old school look. It's taking me awhile due to what you said, Im just an avg. joe with a very small budget.
Average guys with small budget can build great things. Don't rush it. You'll complete it👍🏼
Came here to try and find an answer for what motor would be more reliable and easier to turbo, pro charge, or supercharge depending on what my future plans are, I'm caught between the 4.6 2v and the 5.0
Supercharged option require less maintenance compared to a on3 turbo kit. Maybe with a more expensive turbo kit you won't have to tighten clamps and bolts periodically. IMO you can't go wrong with either motor. 4.6 2V motors are easier to find. Both motors are reliable when keeping them around 400rwhp
@@SN95Poweralright thanks for the info man, appreciate it
i would like a 1994 cobra R replica with a big Windsor or a 199-98 Cobra with a built motor and big centrifical blower
Just think it’s a personal preference! For a 10 or 11 sec. Street car.
The 3.8 is a great daily driver and pretty decent on gas. I just wish mine was a 5 speed
Man what how do you not have a 5 speed sn95 my 3.8 is a 5 speed manual what else do they come with?
@toxicity6629 mine is the automatic, the V6 is my daily driver. I also have an 04 cobra with the 6 speed T56
The 4.6 4V would be my choice. Amazing engine
Can't go wrong with that.
Same here. Best sounding engine..especially with forced induction and cammed
Why not 351Windsor build? To me the go to would be a Coyote swap, I did on on my 05 S197 gets you the best start N.A., then with Turbo puts you 700+
This video is based off regular production engines.
My favorite two engines will always be the 4.6 4v and the 5.0 pushrod…go check out my brothers supercharged 95 gt on my channel doing a nasty pull from 1st gear
I like the 4.6 4v
have a lot of experience with 3.8 mustangs they have to have a manual behind them to be fun
My manager had a thunderbird supercoupe and he let me drive it a couple of time. Would have been a fun option if Ford offered it on the Mustang
@@SN95Power I was working on that swap before on a 97 V6 I had owned
3.8 v6 or 302 Windsor for budget build,for modular its 2v
Great summary
Ok you say 5.0 ones but that’s the newer ones in sn95s . What about 5.0 puchrod that started in an 95’s?
This video is about production 4th generation motors
SELL IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got a 2011 Mustang gt $4800 ,, got an Audi RS5 for 6k 490hp godly Hp on face book market place ,,, Audi needed clutch ,,, Mustang was a rebuilt title but Perfect I cannot find anything wrong with it runs perfect and no issues insanity may have been in a minor fender bender who knows
I have a 98 GT that I would love to drop the Godzilla motor into
I definitely needed this video my engine blew up im my 2004 mustang gt and I’m tied between 2018 5.0 manual or 10 speed engine and trans or 2004 svt cobra engine but i got one problem I love my exhaust setup and I want to push at least 800hp
Personal I would do the Cobra motor. Unless you can get a killer deal on the Coyote
Speed and durability straight out the box from the factory Gen 2 coyote turbo or supercharged if you want to ride fast and dependable and last
A new engine lasting long? What world are you from?
@Faded 4 2 0 what are you talking about? This comment tells me you aren't familiar with the gen 2 coyote lol.
@@midnight347 my man I hate to tell you but any older engine can run circles around a new one reliability wise. They'll run a lifetime if you take care of them and keep them maintenanced fairly often(anything from 4 cylinders to 8 cylinders was made to last back then). A new style engine on the other hand couldn't hope to get over 300k miles even if it tried it's damn best to do it
I guess everybody has different look with different things my brothers had been two threes and the gentoos been the best for him and his 2014 GT streetcar will run in the fives pretty easy
@faded4204 you're just flat out wrong. These things live a long while being beaten on at 800 rwhp stock long block. Try that with most "old" engines. They're pretty damn reliable top many guys have went well over 100k boosted without a hiccup beating the piss out of them. You need to climb out from under that rock you live under and smell the roses.
The Barra 😈
96 to 98 SN95 4v all day. Or 2v or 5.0 on a budget.
Ok so im not crazy i had an idea but didnt see it anywhere which is build a pleanum that bolts the the 5.0 lower to allow bolting a terminator eaton blower seems there all over the internet for $1000 or less often $750 to 800, but thay super 6 company had a kit that was exactly that... Im a professional welder fabricator and it seems to be a simple thing to build. I would think a thicker base to allow radiused inlets. The only thing that seems like an obstacle is sorting the pully setup and cleaing the distributor and my idea of a solution is a low profile distributor and enough hood clearance to space it high enough i was thinking of finding a compleat 95 engine and use it to fabricate it. I love the Eaton roots blower sound, if it will support a 4.6 32v it would be sufficient and it seems like with that eaton with a pully swap a set of afr enforcer 165's, a comp xe274 it would make really good power on a 5.0, like 450? Im assuming with the 8.5:1 compression ratio from the 185's larger 64cc enforcers would be even more ideal if you went boring and new pistons or fly cut the pistons valve reliefs for 185 heads bigger valves. I see a prestige motorsports i think video of a 347 with afr 165s make over 500 crank hp....
There were some kits back in the day that would mount a eaton m90 or m112 supercharger on a 8.2 deck sbf. The blower snot had to be modified. There was ever a company that sold a kit that mounted a m90 on the side of the motor.
Those kits never took off because the lack of intake air cooling.
I would love a modern roots blower on my sbf. A company named Harrop is making a kit to put a intercooler tvs blower on sbf. It's going to be super expensive though
I have the 1995 5.0 HO with the t5 5 speed manual transmission
Any plans
Gotta go 2v. Can jus slap a turbo and go. All part are cheap or in the junkyard 🤣
It’s most durable for sure
I’m keeping my 5.0 💪🏾
Nothing wrong with that bro
You just said i can't play 🤣
Fast builds not allowed 🤣
4.6 4v best sounding engine especially with forced induction and cammed
How do you tell the difference between the two 4.6L motors. Which car had the 4v ?
Easiest way to tell the difference between the two is the size of the cylinder heads. Only the cobra and mach one mustangs had the four valve motors. The two valve motor, valve covers look like a typical push rod valve cover size wise. The four valve valve cover is very wide.
The valve covers look like a big block hemi or something lol. They're huge trust me bro you can't mistake it for a 2v lol
I have a 96 cobra Ive been wanting to put a blower on just because it seemed simpler overall than a turbo kit . But the turbos seem popular. I have to rebuild my engine first though unfortunately I have a bad low rpm ticking
I would love a b head Cobra with a Kenne Bell. Wouldn't make a ton of power but would love the sound. Are you going to do anything to the bottom end while it's apart
@@SN95Power I probably should. Some pistons and rods at least
You should look into possibly fitting a 2.3 tvs blower onto it. Any of them would be fine for stock motor if it's got forged motor a gen2r from vmp would be awesome I know they don't sell a blower to fit that b head motor directly but somebody like department of boost or someone else might make an adaptor to make it possible. The tvs hits hard on the hit by design (even more than twin screws) because of the twist on the rotors among other things. It would be killer to see a 2.3 tvs on a b head 4v
@@midnight347 ill probably end up with a kennel bell kit just to make my life easier with install. But it would be cool to have a tvs
My built 1997 4.6 and 78mm turbo makes over 800 rwhp
Nice👍🏼
That is super badass. Very cool you build a 4.6 for it. Love tbirds.
Was it me or did i not hear you mention the 2v??
it's in there
It was you,. . . .
@@scottcarlon6318 Good to know, thanks..
Bro where can I get that sn95 banner?
Shoot me an email sn95pow@gmail
4V Teksid for boost / Coyote for NA
@JP he's not saying they were he is simply saying his opinion on what the best engines to go with for these cars are. You wanna do na power coyote you wanna do big boosted power a forged teksid 4v.
Is it me or does this video get really loud then quiet ....
It's not you. Still trying to perfect this editing. Switched over to Capcut and the tools are better for my experience level.
Personally I won’t waste my money on a 3.8 that’s me, I would go 5.0 or 4 v , 5.0 cheaper for more bang
This is false. It's not cheaper or better bang for the buck. You can throw 8-10 psi at a stock b head motor with headers and do 450 rwhp easily. With a pushrod you need cam springs probably heads too you may be able to save some money going gt40 stuff but it isn't gonna make power as easily or Rev as high or smooth as that 4v. The 4v is a good place to start for a 450 rwhp street car. Just the engine and boost (if you don't already have one in your car). 302 is cheaper but requires alot more stuff done to the engine to have similar results. Even with heads cam intake it would struggle to keep up with a 4v boost vs boost unless you had the latest awesome shit like 11r trickflows at which point you're gonna have alot more into it than what a 4v would have costed.
Coyote swap it an be done with it .
Thanks the popular choice now
if sn95s were japanese theyd be going for a bajillion dollars
Lol im like # 302
V6 drift car lol
See the whole point of building a V6 is not to beat a V8 and up its to beat other v6s you would be ah fool to put any V6 to ah V8 stock for stock
ls swap
