Don't let me be misunderstood is another great song by them. Definitely check that song out.
And " We gotta get out of this place"
Love that one!!!! Great recommendation, Dorian!
@@rfrontany I'm both metalhead and hip-hop head.
That song makes me wanna shank a dude in the yard while he bench presses. If ya know ya know
I love your profile pic! One of my favorite albums. That and Iowa!
“That boy standing behind the keys” was the guy that brought Jimi Hendrix to England and made him famous
Bass player Chad chandler not the keys
@@rootintootinputin1153 Alex was talking about the bass player standing behind the keys when he said what the person above quoted
@@rootintootinputin1153 You must have misinterpreted what that person said
Alan Price.
Hendrix was so impressed by chas chandler the bassist he formed the experience the UK band members jimi also had USA band called the gypsies
That boy standing behind the keys actually is the one who discovered Jimi Hendrix and later became his Manager.
Chaz Chandler
I met him after a show in Philly. He signed a box of Alexander the Grapes for me, lol.
@wayouttatune2 uh, no.
@wayouttatune2 that's so bad ass.
Are you sure Chas wasn't the bass player
The lead singer is Eric Burdon. Check out him singing Spill the Wine with War.
60s bands wore suits that matched.
Eric Burdon is on the Top 100 best singers of all time.
Correct. Correct. And Correct.
That and "Paint it Black "
He had the audience
Top 20
Yep yep yep
Excellent choice of song to listen to. The best version of this song IMO.
I love how the entire band is just jamming the hell out of this song from start to finish.
I love this but still love the Sons of Anarchy and Five Finger Death Punch versions too
I like the Leo Moracchioli Metal cover version too. He goes HAM on this song. Frog Leap Studio's!!!
What about leadbellys version?
@@DevonThomas1204 That one is a strong old-school blues song. Far different sound than the Animals. Almost like 2 entirely different songs.
#FFDP🐐
Lead Singer Eric Burdon is 83 now and still singing his butt off.
I remember this so clearly when it came out. It was SOOOOOOOOO different to anything that had come before it.... Reaction from people hearing it for the first time now, have NO IDEA what it was like hearing it back then.... PLUS, It's NOT DATED one iota..... Still an fantastic song.
Actually, it was the Animal's bass player James " Chas " Chandler, who "discovered" Jimi Hendrix in NYC in 1966 and urged him to come to England to perform and record his first album. Chandler managed his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
This dude has the most unique voice in rock imo. So interesting
Eric Burdon's voice is haunting, but soooo good 😍
I can't overstate how much I love the keyboard sound and the keyboard solo in this song.
Check out Alan Price: (keyboards on this) track : you're telling me. organ solo is better than this.
this song is timeless. Sounds just as good today as it did in 64 and the lyrics hit just as hard
"It PULSES"
Perfect description. Been hearing this for over 40 years, thanks to my parents, and you nailed the feel.
Right on!!! This song is amazing. Just the whole feel to it. Today's auto tune garbage isn't even music
So many reactors seem puzzled by the song's true meaning, but you got it immediately. It's really not all that hard to understand. I figured it out the first time I heard it as a kid in the 1960s, Lol. Great reaction! 60s and 70s were truly the golden age of rock.
Eric Burdon was like 23 years old when they recorded this song, but he SOUNDS way older, like he's just got a blues soul inside.
Someone commented that he managed to look 14 and 46 at the same time throughout the song.
@@jadea.2694 I can see that 😂
He looks 12! I was 13 and living in London when this song was released. The sixties was where it was at in London. Great memories.
Eventhough im south east asian. Whenever i listens to this song, i picture myself riding a horse into the sunset in a cowboy clothing. Its an awesome song.
See...this is back when music truly involved talent.
Eric Burdon is a world class vocalist. He did a bunch of great songs with The Animals, but some of his best work was when he was fronting the band War.
Oh shit, that's the same guy. Cool
It's true that Eric Burdon was great with War, but also true that War was just as great without Eric after he left the band
an overfed long haired leaping gnome
Love this reaction, dudes like "what the hell?"
But as soon as the lead singer opens his mouth it's respect
Literally one of the best songs ever made.
Actually a very old song, over a hundred years older than this recording.
I believe its been traced to late 1890s, to early 1900s, I've heard a version from the 1920s.
great reaction, you just found yourself some classics son! check out "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "Don't let me be misunderstood"
And-Sky Pilot
The percentage of bands that are British is staggering, but even more so when you think of the number of groundbreaking groups who became huge that are British especially when you think its a country of nearly 68 million people and the influence its people have had on the world's listening habits, from The Beatles, to the Stones to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen.
Moody Blues, Kinks, Jethro Tull and many others
As I see it, loving metal is exactly this, being able to recognize the importance of its history and being as excited with the oldies as with the new songs. If you love the house, you have to appreciate the foundations.
Well said.
Agreed! And by "house", you mean the one in New Orleans, right?
@@Nostrum84 Actually, this is part of the foundation. I get the joke, but it's the opposite of my metaphor.
Speaking of foundations, he should totally listen to The Foundations (I'm not sure if that was a part of the pun, but I couldn't help but notice lmao)
My Father was sent on his final journey to "We gotta get out of this place" by the Animals, a sad day but he would've laughed his head off. Class reaction fella 👌 👍 🤘
House of the rising sun is actually a brothel
No it was said its no connection
Yes, it is.
The House of the Rising Sun name/song/tune is a lot older than the USA, it’s also a common pub name in the UK. It can be traced back to the 14th century, King Edward III and French heraldry.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_of_the_Rising_Sun
www.thevintagenews.com/2017/01/21/the-original-song-the-house-of-the-rising-sun-is-older-than-new-orleans/
@@optimist3580 I do strongly believe the opener is talking about the specific house mentioned in this song, that is most likely a brothel
They are British,, they were a part of "the British Invasion" of the 60s along with the Beatles and others. This was back when tv had just gone color....it was called the color transition, the first full color tv season(all networks) that started in the fall of 1966(66-67 season)
The bass player is Chas Chandler. He "discovered" Jimmy James in mid 1966-67 in a night club in Greenwich Village, NY. He convinced him to use his real name and The Jimi Hendrix Experience was born. He took him to England and the rest is Rock and Roll history....🤟😎
This film was n't made for TV it was made for cinema release and was a compilation of several different British Invasion bands. The quality is so good because it was on film, not video tape. It was made in 1964 and that was the year this reach no 1 in America.
The band didn't have money for excessive studio time or numerous takes... they recorded this song in ONE TAKE. That's how good The Animals were as musicians.
The House of the Rising Sun was a bordello in New Orleans.
This recording was done in a single take at 5AM.
I like how YOU went from almost smirking to WOW faster than a Top Fuel Funny Car.
Did you notice the part where you could hear every word over the band without a Mic in his face.
Well, it is the studio version. This is mimed for a tv show. Guitars and organ are not plugged in.
The big bassist behind the keyboard is Chas Chandler. You can thank him for bringing Jimi Hendrix to England and introducing him to the world.
This is the best version of this song, IMO....I love this band.
The bass player (Chas Chandler) behind the keyboard player literally made Jimi Hendrix...no...really! Chas saw him in a club in New York and his name was Jimmy James. He took him back to England, changed his name to Jimi Hendrix, and the rest is history.
Early 60's, it was the style to wear matching clothes-haven't you heard of the British Invasion? A lot of people think having your pants hanging down to the crack of doom looks funny too. The clothes aren't important, the talent is. Eric Burdon had an amazing voice (I believe he was only 23 at this time) and the musicians were incredible. So many of the 60's and especially the 70's talent were singer/songwriters who wrote "story songs". Everyone could sing, write songs, most played at least one instrument. So much pure talent.
Auto tune didnt exist this was pure talent didnt have to put on a floor show you were thrilled by their talent alone. Miss this type of talented people
Been waiting for this, never clicked so fast
Lol same
Sameee
Me too!👍👍👍
I also love the song so much.
Several reactions out there to this song.
Thank you Alex. Eric Burdon (lead singer) is still touring. One of the best voices ever.
I remember my dad playing this song all the time growing up. Every time I hear this brings back memories of the times spent with my dad.
You have to check out other song by the animals.
Where and how you have to live to hear The House of Rising Sun for the first time in 2020 ?!?!?
There have been remakes, but there is nothing like the original ...
@Christopher Bingham true, but this is considered the main "official" version ...
To hear the singer talk in real life is so different, he has a Geordie accent (Newcastle in northern England) yet he sounds quite American when he sings
When I was a little kid I bought the single, "Sky Pilot". These guys were great, also "We got to get out of this Place" & "Don't let me be misunderstood" ..."It's my Life"..many great songs
Eric Burdon’s voice always has so much soul!
Please react on Rolling Stones: Sympathy for the Devil
Nobody knows who actually wrote that song. I say it was the devil himself
Back when all they had was a mic and amp and could actually sing unlike today theres voice tuners and other digital equipment
boomerz
There's a ton of great singers and musicians around. Just don't consume the stuff coming from the charts of the popular radios and you're good to go
And they recorded music video's in one take.
I hear ya. Today's popular music sucks. Just like you said, all auto tune and computers. It's not even real!
@@SuddenReal The actual song was also recorded in one take
No way - my Mam used to go clubbing with these. This band is legend 🇬🇧 (they started out in North East England) 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼✌️❤️
plis react to "I Want Out - Helloween"
I love the classy bow at the end! The Beatles did that. Tom Jones did that. It was a group or an artist saying 'thanks for listening, hope you liked'. Sometimes I feel like we'll never see anything classy ever again. Bummer.
Honestly this song is one of my all time favorites, it was the first song me and my Grandfather played together on guitar
The bands wearing matching suits was huge at that time and is actually a thing The Beatles did initially but predated the Beatles. The Shadows and many other groups did it before The Beatles. (The Beatles got a makeover from their manager anyway...if they had their way they would have all dressed like Fonzie...that's how they presented themselves before their manager took over.)
Eric Burdon is and will always be an amazing vocalist.
Eric Burdon, amazing, nothing else to say......yeah!
First time I ever heard this I was tripping acid back in the early 80's.Such a great memory. Really like seeing you react to the oldies dude.
Eric Burdon just looks like an absolute badass. He could pull this look off in 2020.
I've always liked this song. It was already a classic when heard it on an oldies radio station. Funny thing is my neighbor heard the radio and said turn it up. Loved those times.
How has this been the first time you've heard this and can you please react to my name is human by highly suspect
Yes yes yes.
YES PLEASE! THEY HAVE A LOT OF GREAT SONGS
Yes!! My Name is Human, or Lydia - they’re both such great songs
I would love to see you react to Jim Croce. Any of his songs 💖
This is the first song my cousins and I learned to play in our garage band back around 1966. I was the drummer. We thought we were bad ass.
Это же легендарная песня . Уважение величайшее .
React to The Mamas and The Papas "California dreaming" next please!!
That guy in the back, playing the bass, was the late Chad Chandler. He later became a top notch producer and manager (he was Jimi Hendrix's manager )... meanwhile, Eric Burdon (the singer) is... a LEGEND!
I love you reactions, dude
Hello from MOTHER RUSSIA
Please, you need to hear Ride the Lighting by Metallica
Guys, like this comment :)
Dude, since you been jammin these oldies along with Bring Me The Horizon and Linkin Park recently. I got some suggestions. I love The Beatles. I’m sure you heard some Beatles, but some of their deep cuts are so good.
This northern sound is what created the Beatles, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, The Animals, The Yardbirds and so many more britpop bands, and Aussie and American Bands Inspired by them - and also influenced British and British hybrid bands like Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Cream, etc etc with their strong voices as instruments mixing traditions.
Eric was truly amazing.
That dude's voice is awesome. The whole band goes hard on it too. Been loving this song most of my life.
I probably listen to 50 reactionists, but you're still my favorite Alex. Love your energy.
BTW, Eric Burdon is still alive. Look him up. Also, please react to "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood".
Now you've got to hear the Five Finger Death Punch cover. Speaking of which, also check out Bad Company's "Bad Company" then go check out the Five Finger Death Punch cover of "Bad Company" as well.
To add to a very fun little historical tidbit about this song is that this was actually considered a "heavy rock" song and The Animals where the bad boys of rock n' roll.
One of the best songs to randomly play on a haunted road. I freaking adore this song!
Let's get something strait right here and now...
The Animals INVENTED metal music! When everyone in the British Invasion was singing about girls and how their parents suck, Eric Burton and The Animals were singing about a fucking whorehouse in New Orleans with all the minor keys of Sabbath and all the power of the most damned blues musicians ever made...
This shit WAS the "devil's music" at the time. It was also the song my awesome ass Mom sang me to sleep with as a baby. 😎
This shit is my personal lullaby.
Guess who's back?! Please react to System Of A Down “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” :)
I applaud you for saying it publicly that you don't drink and why. I have never had a drop of alcohol and I'm 46 years old. I have always been ridiculed. People just think I'm not fun or don't drink for religious purposes. Not my reasons. I come from a long line of alcoholics from both sides of the family. Studies show alcoholism is hereditary. So at a young age I watched family destroy their lives and die. I made a vow to never drink.
Just wanted to say that. Love your channel.
Eric Burdon and War-'Spill the Wine'. Live version, trust me.
Cracking song - the guys are British (Newcastle upon Tyne) and I love this version (and the end always reminds of the train he's talking about - coming into the station) - performing in my birth year - how cool is that? ^*^
Ok, that's old wchool. How about doing something ELSE different and try Lzzy Hale feat Amy Lee "Break In" A fantastic duet and a song that I requested after the "Use My Vouce" reaction, that garnered 220 likes from people who agreed that "Break In" is a song that deserves a reaction video. The harmony between Lzzy and Amy needs to be heard to be believed. Please consider reacting to this song. 0_0
👍
This is actually a cover of a Woody Guthrie song. They shifted folk to blues. Really to the song's benefit. Love Burden's vocals.
The Beatles were the ones who started the matching suits trend, for a time all the bands wore them.
Not really. The Beatles were simply following the same fashion that The Animals were following....in London, england the fashion known as Mod was all about suits and subverted versions of classic fashion.
Alex, as a fellow Texan you should try Upon A Burning Body, they are a band from Texas. They have a song called Texas Bloody Money. It's metal about Texas pride.
Alex if you're reading this please do a reaction to a song called "115",
it's a song from Call of Duty Zombies but it's very heavy and I think you'd like it
So much great music came out of the 69s! They don’t make music like this anymore! Keep rock8n’ it out! 🤘🏻💋
Gotta do "To Love Somebody", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" all by The Animals. And "Spill the Wine" By Eric Burdon and WAR.
I second "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place." Bruce Springsteen isn't a hip-hop artist (though there is a hip-hop version of "Born In The USA"), but he once said that every song he's ever written can be traced back to The Animals' "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place." Hard to imagine two such great soul/blues singers as Burdon and Steve Winwood hitting the scene within months of each other.
I thoroughly enjoy the reactions, and have to stop my self sometimes from thinking how in the hell have you never heard this????? I’m older than you for sure, but I forget that. All that crap said, enjoy my friend.
The singer went onto be in a band called war in the 70s with all black musicians. That dude is a cool cat
Alex I love you but HOW IN TF Have you gone your whole life without ever hearing this song!
Should definitely check out Harvey Danger: Flagpole Sitta.
The peepshow theme tune
You're either cool or not...
Eric burden a little Gordie boy from Newcastle had cool and soul in bucket loads..
He also needs to react to the Five Finger Death Punch cover.
i like the Five Finger Deathpunch version of this, you should listen to that some time
This song pioneered so much great music. Glad you are visiting the classics.
Folksy?? That is a bluesy sound with an very nice R&B vibe on the organ.
Bout damn time u do this classic! Eric's voice, along with the amazing instrumentals...One of the best ever
Machine Head - Beyond The Pale or Now We Die
There's a major story behind this song. One that is very much worth looking into. Versions of this song dates back to the early 1900's. This version was recorded in one take. Seriously though, there's a lot of history to this song.
First time I heard this song was in the movie, Casino.
Your first time hearing?? Daym check out their others they are amazing also please react to Bowie he is the greatest!!
This is way better than Five Finger Death Punch's remake in my opinion
The original of ANYTHING is almost ALWAYS better! I agree with you!
I didn't like FFDP's cover. It drives me nuts when bands change lyrics in their covers for some reason.
@@itsshanmarie same
Please do hail to the king by avenged sevenfold I can keep track of all the times I’ve tried
Now you need to react to Five Finger Death Punch's cover of this song. It's arguably better than the original version.
No. It isn't. lol
Wish you would stay more in the 60s and 70s
The Animals was a group overflowing with talent, but the members all detested each other, so they only lasted 2 years in their original incarnation. Singer Eric Burdon is still performing, 56 years later
I attended his concert at "Castle Clam" (Austria) 2 years ago, he was great.
