A fundamental cornerstone of designing inclusive settings is fostering identity-safe learning environments where all students feel physically and emotionally safe to be an authentic version of themselves. It is critical for teachers to honor the funds of knowledge of their students to ensure that the act of learning is something that is done with students and not to students. Identity-safe environments can be intentionally cultivated in all learning experiences through culturally responsive practices. In this session, attendees will explore promising practices and resources to develop an identify-safe learning environment that honors students’ funds of knowledge by utilizing culturally responsive practices.
