So much to' enjoy. Ardwick; countless times I've been past on the train, never seen anyone get on. And that line to Buxton; did it back in the 1980's with a chum, on a day of such deep snow that people were going up from Manchester to Buxton to ski. Train rammed with skiers. St Anne's Wells, wherever they occur, are usually for helping people with eye problems. Sigh. ADORABLE! Onwards!
4'16" "People are just walking past, why aren't they just filling up their water bottles?" It's because they live there. Oh btw it's not spring water, it's natural mineral water, and there are laws protecting natural mineral water, whereas spring water can just come out of the tap. Check the label when you buy a bottle, NMW has to have a chemical analysis of the composition. The water coming out of the well is hydrothermal and has been percolating through the local schism in the rocks for 5000 years. It comes out at a constant temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, regardless of the time of year. The owners of Buxton Mineral Water, the Coca-Cola company, would love to shut down that well, but they aren't allowed to, so anyone can fill as many bottles as they like from there for free. Beautiful video, love the channel.
Vicki's reaction at 7:50 - priceless! That's what the views of the Peak District does to you! :-) Must say they've could have filmed more at Edale - the start of the Pennine Way and mention the Kinder Trespass which led to the movement of establishing National Parks in the UK, and the Peak District being the first (and best) one :-)
Speaking to John, the guard/conductor was fascinating. I'm learning loads of really useless but fascinating trivia watching these vids. Cheers, Vicky and Geoff.
Historically (before 1974), New Mills was on the boundary between Derbyshire and Cheshire (the River Goyt), so _all_ of New Mills wasn't in Derbyshire before that date. It's true that it's never been part of Greater Manchester, though.
Hello Tevildo - that's indeed true, though only the civil parish boundary was changed in 1974, not the ecclesiastical parish boundary - so people who live over the river are still considered to be Cheshireites for the purposes of getting married at the Parish Church, such are the joys of straddling a border! It also means that trains in New Mills are that bit more expensive when going in to Manchester - and why I sometimes drive to Marple to catch the train from there.
Locals do not fill up waterbottles as the water out the tap in buxton comes from the spring , in fact the water in buxton water bottles travels 2 miles out side of town in a pipe to the bottling plant
Just to say that greater Manchester ends after Middlewood, at which point you go to Cheshire through Disley, and get to Derbyshire just before New Mills station.
Marple has been my local station as well as rose hill for 14 years and i have never noticed the posters or train bird box. I did know about Agatha's connection to Marple though...
Hadfield was the birthplace of Arthur Lowe (Captain Mainwaring). When Hadfield Cricket Club got a new pavillion in the 70s, not only did he open it, the cast of Dad's Army played the cricket club!
..Hi Geoff & Vicky...you are both such a real lovely guy, and a lovely lass...love you both :), and as you said there Geoff, ..railway Tracks most deffinatly run their way through some georgeous places...All your video's are amazing...I am enjoying every one of them...I have SUBSCRIBED to you b.t.w....all the best to both of you... :)
hi guy's... im a new subscriber and i'm totally enjoying all your video's.. you were close to my home today, you got to Belle View, i live 2 stops further down the line at Ryder Brow......
Yes Edale..... been there many times for the start of the Pennine Way and Kinder Scout. There is also a long tunnel just after Edale (Sheffield bound), that on the old DMU's, myself I often love to stick my head out of, and get a face full of Diesel fumes..... yes I am not right in the head :D New Mills, pleased to see you took the river route between the two stations, which also passes near the Swizzles and Matlow sweet factory, well known for confections like Double Dip etc.
Yay, New Mills! Been there with me parents countless times growing up. Been to Buxton a small handful of times too. Oh, hey, Marple, too. Yeah, been round there a good number of times. Been to Edale ONCE...would like to go there again.
Hi, Only one 9 3/4 earring Vicki, but on the other ear. Great that you keep testing our observation skills. Steve in comment below said 9 3/4 earrings!
‘Ow ‘ard was my wick... Apparently Leamington Spa water is not only warm but salty. I didn’t try any as I saw barely more than the station itself (though I did leave and a few days later re-enter the station).
It couldn't have been good. They should have filmed it. Seeing the miserable old cuss get angry when proven wrong would have made a great All the Stations Extra.
You guys need to walk the monsal trail , the ex buxton to derby line , now that's some views 6 tunnels and 2 breathtaking viaducts totaly accessible as a trail from bakewell to buxton
fab video loved it . i was brought up on the station house on the station platform. My mum lived there for 40 years, rented of british rail i spent many happy days playing trains with all the station signal footplate staff .i still think the station is the quantest station in derbyshire.xxxxx About running trains on the monsal trail. When peak rail was in buxton in the eightys thay tried to open the line to matlock from buxton but br and derbyshire council wouldnt let them . thay got driven off the sight because buxton water wanted the grounds so we got lorries instead of trains (so so wrong grrr) just emagine catching a steam train to matlock from buxton i still hope it happens.
Does anyone play along and look up the locations on Google Maps, pausing the video from time to time? The trail near New Mills Central is quite evident in Satellite view, even though the relief is suppressed.
I don't want to sound like a humourless git if you're joking. But an honest/honesty pot is for paying in when there's nobody there. So you take a pot of jam, and put a leave a bit of money to pay for it. Obviously nobody can force you to pay, but if you do pay then it's very honest of you.
Many thanks for mention of good old Davenport! Northern Railway think we are a tiny halt that can have its service cut even though we get a quarter of a million passengers a year. More at davenportstation.org.uk
John Hulme When I come through - btw i am from Hazel Grove Davenport can get busy . Why are they cutting the service . Hazel grove we get trains almost every 15-30 mins in the peak . Get woodsmoor and davenport back on track
chaim ustraykh Don't forget they have to cut over an hour's worth of footage down to 10-15minutes. As an experienced editor myself, I don't envy the two/three guys who have to produce these every couple of days!
Dove and pigeon is both the same groupe of birds, the diffrence is that Dove is used in the Germanic languages and Pigeon is the French word for it. They're all called -----duva in Swedish :)
Last time I went to Buxton was on a diesel charter and the crescent was completely covered in scaffolding which was a shame. Seems like it's still like that. Been to the crescent at Bath and I like it better that the Buxton one.
did you guys here of the four new stations they are going to open in the next few years are you going to go to them too maybe even as officaly reporters for you loval tv station.
I know it’s been said but how could you miss a spot on Middlewood? A former junction station literally in the middle of a wood. The nearest road is 800m away and yet it still gets a train every two hours. Such a shame.
Why the Pride & Prejudice reference at the beginning? (0:05) a) Because you filmed it 1 day after the 200yr anniversary of Jane Austen's death (0:04). b) Because the line into Disley (2:53) passes through Lyme Park where Colin Firth filmed P&P. c) The 5th Duke of Devonshire (4:38) lived at Chatsworth, reputedly the model for Pemberley. d) Some other reason...?
I'm a bit surprised to see the nonsensical claim for inspiring the Railway Children reference. Edith Nesbit spent her life in SE London and NW Kent and it is generally agreed she based her railway knowledge on Chelsfield station near where she lived!
“Were they doves?” “No, they were pigeons.” Obnoxious fact: Pigeons are also called Rock Doves. I feel we’d hold them in higher regard if that were their common name.
I was on that train you caught from Ardwick. In all the years I've been on it, you were the first ever to board in the direction of Manchester!
hey Ian! :-)
So much to' enjoy. Ardwick; countless times I've been past on the train, never seen anyone get on. I'm loving this series so much... shame I missed them going through my local station
Doves are a type of pigeon for the dove holes station! Family columberformes, I just love all your videos
Vicki's reaction at 7:50 - priceless! That's what the views of the Peak District does to you! :-)
Must say they've could have filmed more at Edale - the start of the Pennine Way and mention the Kinder Trespass which led to the movement of establishing National Parks in the UK, and the Peak District being the first (and best) one :-)
twfy861 Looks a bit foggy to me, they probably couldn't see a lot. Shame
Speaking to John, the guard/conductor was fascinating. I'm learning loads of really useless but fascinating trivia watching these vids. Cheers, Vicky and Geoff.
"New Mills - a bit of Derbyshire consumed by Greater Manchester" - how very precious dare you! We're very firmly in Derbyshire!
Carriage of No Return.
That must be a shame for you.
- A Nottinghamshire Resident
Ooohhhh George Jordan - that's almost fighting talk!
Historically (before 1974), New Mills was on the boundary between Derbyshire and Cheshire (the River Goyt), so _all_ of New Mills wasn't in Derbyshire before that date. It's true that it's never been part of Greater Manchester, though.

Like the Class 142 bird box. Hope the birds are impressed - #ALLTHEBIRDBOXES. Another great programme.
Just to say that greater Manchester ends after Middlewood, at which point you go to Cheshire through Disley, and get to Derbyshire just before New Mills station.
Vicki bits are best.
The "Dove" in Dove Holes comes from Old Celtic "dwfr", meaning "water". Thus, Water Holes. Dover also comes from "dwfr".
Am I on a replacement rail bus
Nope,just a pacer!
a pacer is a rail bus
No frills, handy for the hills, that's the way you spell New Mills.
Alan, either you've just lost a fight with a fire engine, or it's raining it's arse off out there" - Chris Morris when Alan Partridge is at Marple
8:15 good to see a homage to The League of Gentlemen, and Tubbs and Edward :D
What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...
If you pause at 8:22 you can see where the route to Sheffield via the Woodhead tunnel used to continue onwards
Lovely part of the country, the Edale line is stunning when their is snow on the hills :)
Marple has been my local station as well as rose hill for 14 years and i have never noticed the posters or train bird box. I did know about Agatha's connection to Marple though...

Wrong. That is Hayfield....
Very cool
This episode has got some stunning views and amazing footage! Thanks for great interviews as well
7:30 new Mills is in Derbyshire
We are going there this year hopefully we are going in here this year
how the hell did i not know you guys went to our stations?
❣ from marple
New Mills is not in Greater Manchester, you can easily tell because stations in Greater Manchester have the GMPTE logo on the station sign. :)
The contrast between Manchester Piccadilly and Ardwick..
Thanks for interviewing me. Im not that hairy now.
I;m curious, was that a Doctor Who t-shirt Jonathon is wearing...?
RuthFL yes it was
wow, its the scarf that caught my eye....love it! Wish i could see the rest of the picture
RuthFL www.teefury.com/doctor-selfie
Nice to see all my local stations visited by the people themselves (Marple to Manchester)
Nearly forgot to mention the 'local' reference to 'The League of Gentlemen' in Hadfield, well done.
When i was young I used to go to Edale in a house next to the station and I used to watch the trains all day long
Vicki, I love that you've been wearing one each of the HP earrings (and switched sides too!).... very clever 🤓👍 xo ccfg

You went to 2 of my most visited stations! Great video
‘Ow ‘ard was my wick...
Apparently Leamington Spa water is not only warm but salty. I didn’t try any as I saw barely more than the station itself (though I did leave and a few days later re-enter the station).
Brilliant video loving the adventure.
You can't end it there???? Greatest cliffhanger in history, How did the security guard react lol
NOOOOOOO....... You can't end the episode like that, We all need to know did Vicki see the man and win the bet?????
Also what sort of reaction did you get?
It couldn't have been good. They should have filmed it. Seeing the miserable old cuss get angry when proven wrong would have made a great All the Stations Extra.
A real cliffhanger, next video they'll insert adds ;)
I’m a famous fan of you guys I live in Hitchin
Ah my home village of Hadfield, my parents home in Marple (Bridge) and my brothers home near Rose Hill. #allthefamilystations.
What was the reaction of the grumpy old bar steward to lovely Vikki's revelation to dispel his 18 years of ignorance ??
A lovely part of the world. That's coming from a Southerner!
Enjoyed the video.
Dang, you've already been to my nearest!
Aw if you'd got out at Grindleford you'd have been at the Western entrance to the Totley Tunnel
You guys need to walk the monsal trail , the ex buxton to derby line , now that's some views 6 tunnels and 2 breathtaking viaducts totaly accessible as a trail from bakewell to buxton
Finally found your Rose Hill stop 👍

Good stuff. Thank you. A++
13:24 - because there's nothing more irritating that buying a homemade jam only to discover the pot is dishonest
I don't want to sound like a humourless git if you're joking. But an honest/honesty pot is for paying in when there's nobody there. So you take a pot of jam, and put a leave a bit of money to pay for it. Obviously nobody can force you to pay, but if you do pay then it's very honest of you.

No, there's no railway in Britain, been here #allmylife.
There might be a little minature railway somewhere. Toy trains.

John Hulme the only people who use davenport go to aquinas college - they make up most of those passengers 😂
Vicki, I like your "9¾" earrings
Aidan Christensen yay! (since episode 27. Or 28...)
Again, more views of the Green and Pleasant Land.
You walked right past the Swizzel's factory without mentioning it! 😵
They also missed the Uncle Joe's Mint Balls factory a few videos back when they were in Wigan.....
chaim ustraykh Don't forget they have to cut over an hour's worth of footage down to 10-15minutes. As an experienced editor myself, I don't envy the two/three guys who have to produce these every couple of days!
They walked right past on a facebook live, totally unmentioned!
😆
Nothing drives my OCD crazier than when Geoff's backpack straps are twisted. Which happens to be a lot.
Julian Lewis we think sometimes he does it on purpose. he's like that, the cunning man 😯
@@AllTheStations Vicki, is it you?
I'm waving at Mike 🤓

And pulu in Finnish.
"You're not local are you ? This is a local town for local people" (!)

i think thay are making it into a hotel
you didn't tell us what happened with the £10 bet..! how did it go with the grumpy security guard...?
Is the old Cotton Mill, at the seven minute point, where they filmed the tragic beginning of Gaskell's "North and South"? Oh 2005 or so?
When they said they were back in Greater Manchester, they were still in Derbyshire
All the Pacers! What ageing trains they are
Love John's Doctor Who shirt :)
Nicholas Payne everyone does
When are you guys coming up the east coast via wallyford????
How did the security guard react to the photo, lol..
Are you doing the line to Newcastle from Carlisle tomorrow? Saturday the 29th
Susan Beddison I think they may have done it today...it was on their instagram stories xx
Yea they have also when the map updated today they missed Dunston
did you guys here of the four new stations they are going to open in the next few years are you going to go to them too maybe even as officaly reporters for you loval tv station.
What happens with the £10? I WANNA KNOW
8:51 Oh, God, "THATS NO TRAIN BIRDBOX, ITS A PACER BIRDBOX!!!!!! PACERS ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD!!!!!!!!"
I call Edale the Dale of E.

Philip Benton could be all of the above. V is an Austen fan (like myself) 😊
Woodley is the one you want on the Rose Hill Line!
Does Vicki live to reach the next episode? Watch this space🤔😀🚂🎥
Think Ardwick needs a little TLC. Though for an urban station the grass must be fairly unusual.
Yay more pacers!
Next time you will have to catch the Stockport to Stalybridge train through Denton (only 1 train a week)
I... I waved to Mike.
So did I :)
gilles111 me too 😂
And me... And the the Doctor at the hospital
New Mills is still part of Derbyshire.

6:10 well technically, doves and pigeons are the same species, doves just carry a rare gene that makes them white so... yes you did see doves :D
Pigeons are a type of dove
“Were they doves?” “No, they were pigeons.”
