Final Fantasy Tactics. I love Unicorn Overload, but I hate the forced dating crap so that keeps it from dethroning Final Fantasy Tactics. Another runner-up is Triangle strategy. I like Vakharia Chronicles One more than Four
Unicorn overlord gameplay wise. 13 sentinels for story. Both from vanillaware. Vanillaware is king and IMO a top 3 gaming company up their with Larian and From Software.
I would also recommend Wandering Sword maybe, idk if it's a game I'd recommend everyone, and some systems were a little confusing at the beginning, but the story was really engaging and the open world exploration was really good, you really felt like a wandering samurai (duh) I guess it's a tactical rpg, even if the grid is really small and without much going on, you end up being able to use multiple characters in battle, idk
Unicorn Overlord - despite its title - it’s a perfect “itch scratching” game for anyone looking for new strategy RPGs - I’ve played most of the rest of the games on this list and UO is the first that I’ve immediately wanted to start over after beating the game. Check it out if you haven’t already
I've put tons of hours into the first 5 games on this list. Complete bangers. I've dabbled in Disgaea 7 and have Tactics Ogre Reborn and Valkyrie Chronicles 4 in my backlog.
I wondered why Disgaea 5 instead of 7 but then I realized that 7 is quite different from the earlier entries (3D models, no magichange, Demon Shogi, Battle rewards).
I don’t know that I’d say Engage de-emphasizes “social aspects” when 3H doesn’t really emphasize social aspects, at least not to a degree any greater than Engage does. You will be primarily spending your time playing thinking about how what you’re doing effects the gameplay. 3H just takes more time *within* its gameplay to incorporate its story and characterization, which isn’t something unique to social simulation nor persona, although there are inspired elements which I think is good for an RPG considering how successful and broadly loved persona is. Engage just doesn’t have much characterization or story to tell, so it doesn’t (outside of dedicated cutscenes), which is fine for people who just want to play the game and don’t care for story/characters
I'm on the minority that prefers engage over three houses, the graphics, the combat, all of the characters from past games, it's just so good in my opinion. Yes the sim side of it is basic, and so is the story, but I don't play tactical jrpgs for the simulation side of things, and gameplay wise engage is superior.
I played Langrisser Mobile for a bit on release. I'm glad to see they reused the assets for the remake. I'm sure it'll play out similarly but without the gacha. 😊
I would also recommend some indie titles like Dark Deity and Symphony of War. Trying to give more options to the more mainstream titles. Dark Deity is more fire emblem like, while Symphony of War did come out before Unicorn Overlord, their systems are heavily similar to one another. Both are available on Steam and Dark Deity was ported to Switch
If you are new in tactical JRPG, I highly recommend to start with Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. One of the greatest tactics of all time.
@@TagTheLegend I would pick fire emblem engage engage merely because I favour gameplay above anything else ( 3 houses have a clearly better story tho) If I were to pick according to story = triangle strategy
I know fire emblem since 2013 play it on the crappy samsung dial phone with $50. the game was made by china on that phone with 6 series. I never got the chance to own a nintendo product until 2019 when I finished uni and got job and got money to buy console, pc and games. Still Fire Emblem brought back child hood memories.
I just want Unicorn Overlord on my steam deck man sigh. Can’t play it til I move in with my SO who has a ps5 lol. I’m impatient thoughhhh. Great video but had to skip the Unicorn Overlord part so I don’t cry
I wouldn't recommend Diofield Chronicles at all. The game lacks variety and character upgrades/cuztomizations. Half way through the game and I'm already bored to death. The only good thing about this game is the character portrait. Resold.
Sadly, when "Stacking characters" became meta in Disgaea, that's when I lost all interest in playing the games. I wish I could get back into them, but there's such an emphasis on this - unless that's changed, Idk.
Most of those games are super good. But for me Vakirie Chronicle is not that good. I don’t know, I was so hyped at first, but gameplay quickly became boring for me 🥲 the story and characters are very good though, they’re the reason makes me complete the game
You mean "Valkyria Chronicles"? I never been interested. I just find it weird, its a shooting war but tactics. Why they don't make it into third person shooter instead, it makes more sense.
Fire Emblem Engage felt so boring compared to Three Houses. I never got to finish it because I always felt sleepy while playing it. Music is a lullaby, characters speak so monotone, story numbs you.. Well maybe story would have gotten better over time but it really came to me as a snoozefest meant to put you asleep at night.
Three houses got Koei Tecmo involved. But Engage this time only Intelligent is the only one develop the game. no wonder I felt the difference. three houses on field u still see character wield the equip weapon. in engage, regardless of what weapon equip, you will always see iron sword on the field. the only way to see the character wielding correct weapons is to press - to zoom and view character in details or in battle.
How do we make a list of games to try in 2024, and then list games from 20 years ago. You cant find anything to fill out the list thats recent? So lazy
langrisserrrrrrrrr goood noooooooooooo how can anyone recommend that pieces of sh!!!!!!!!! I bought that game and OMFG those games ARE BAD, theres ZERO gameplay, tactics???? not found, its the easiest most mobile awful games I ever seen ommmfggg I completed Langerisser 2 while doing something else because I literally didnt have to even think, GOD NO.
Final Fantacy Tactics is better than all the others in the list. I'll list a few examples. It's perma death gives to a chance to save your characters. That alone makes it better than Fire Emblem. It doesn't have that stupid dating sim like in Unicorn Overload (the only thing I don't like about that game) It doesn't have multiple endings like triangle strategy. (I loved the game until the terrible ending) To be clear, this is my opinion and I'm not saying the others care bad games, just that I put Final Fantasy tactics above the rest.
This is possibly the main reason I never liked nor interested to even touch any Fire Emblem games since PSX era. I more prefer Square-like or Atlus-like JRPG.
What Is your favorite tactical JRPG of all time?
Probably vandal hearts 1+2 followed by FFT
Unicorn Overlord is KING. makes a lot of these games look simple or dated.
Final Fantasy Tactics.
I love Unicorn Overload, but I hate the forced dating crap so that keeps it from dethroning Final Fantasy Tactics.
Another runner-up is Triangle strategy.
I like Vakharia Chronicles One more than Four
My personal favorites:
1. FF Tactics A2
2. Shining Force 2
3. FE: Awakening
4. Valkyria Chronicles 3
5. Unicorn Overlord
Unicorn overlord gameplay wise. 13 sentinels for story. Both from vanillaware. Vanillaware is king and IMO a top 3 gaming company up their with Larian and From Software.
UNICORN OVERLORD ITS JUST GOAT!!!!
Your system of batle is garbage
Unicorn overlord and both Fire emblem games are where it is at
For me, Brigandine from ps1.
Ff tactics
Vandal heart
Unicorn overlord

I'd say my current top 10 tactical rpgs for the switch are:
1. unicorn overlord
2. triangle strategy
3. Tactics ogre reborn
4. 13 sentinels
5. Valkyria chronicles 4
6. Fell seal: arbiters mark
7. Redemption reapers
8. CARDS RPG: the misty battlefield
9. Gloomhaven
10. Front mission remake (1st over 2nd)
Try Battle Brothers. Its GOAT.

Bro i gotta say your thumbnails are so good, idk what it is about them but they're like a mix of aesthetic background + thumbnail its great
I appreciate it! I love making thumbnails and It took me a while to find a style but I really like this one.
Brigandine is quite good too
I'm on the minority that prefers engage over three houses, the graphics, the combat, all of the characters from past games, it's just so good in my opinion.

It may be an older one, but FE Awakening is the best in the FE series imo. It was the last one in the series before the Gale Wind nerf.
If you are new in tactical JRPG, I highly recommend to start with Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. One of the greatest tactics of all time.
I know about every single game you mentioned ( despite not playing all of them yet) and I am to say these a really great recommendations

No super robot wars series?
I wouldn't recommend Diofield Chronicles at all. The game lacks variety and character upgrades/cuztomizations. Half way through the game and I'm already bored to death. The only good thing about this game is the character portrait. Resold.
I hope they make final fantasy tactics

This grafics remember the Odin Sphere.
Disgae series also available on android and ios btw 😊
Just the first one
0:27 "AlaN" huh. I always thought Alain was pronounced like the "ain" in pain.
How is Final Fantasy Tactics: War Of The Lions on android.
It speeds the game up significantly from the original version

Fae Tactics ❤
No Persona 5 Tactica?
Wheres octopath?
Octopath isn´t tactical or strategy RPG. It is a turn based JRPG.
Three houses got Koei Tecmo involved. But Engage this time only Intelligent is the only one develop the game. no wonder I felt the difference.

Valkyria Chronicles 1 is WAY better than 4.
Also, Final Fantasy Tactics is overrated. It's average at best.
Well VC1 is harder
Final Fantacy Tactics is better than all the others in the list.
