I finished and enjoyed the first one although it has been a few years now. My brother keeps praising saiyuki journey west but I havent come around to play it... Yet.
These videos for a lot of these creators (who are basically just reading the blurbs) are mostly to drive traffic to their affiliate link. To that end, they aren’t going to call out games that aren’t available on said links, other than a couple of genre-defining nods to maintain legitimacy. Vandal Hearts is neither, but a fantastic game. You’re not alone! :)
It's an old one, but since you touched on PS2, there's a bit of a hidden gem called Eternal Poison. Getting a copy today is starting to feel like looking for a copy of Path of Radiance.
I would love to see either a remake or a spirtual successor to the Sega CD game "Dark Wizard"....That one was truly ahead of its time, except its AI was dumb as a box of rocks. It had an RPG progression system w/class upgrades, secrets all over the place, and a very cool anime artstyle. Even monsters grew and got more formidable, for example dragons had 5 growth stages, starting out as puppy dragons and ending as these monstrous behemoths. You could even get a secret saddle item, one for dragons, griffons, and pegasus to plop your favorite hero on. It was a grand campaign map with huge areas, and its sad no one has done one on the same scale since....Some have come close but nothing quite as grand to my knowledge....If not for the terrible battle animations, even a re-release would do well in this market, especially since these types of games are becoming more and more popular. That one was one of the best I ever played....And I have played alot of them. And when I say "Grand" I forgot to mention that your army could be as big as you pleased (well, up to 100 deployed at a time). Imagine fire emblem but with 100 units on your side, and the AI would match you. So if you wanted to keep your team small, the AI would keep it small but if you wanted grand tactical engagements, it would keep up with you on that as well.
This is the best description of my favorite game of all time. I have longed looked for a game of this type and quality. Closest one I could find was Brigandine on the PS1, great game but it still doesn't.t measure up in the depth and secret as you have mentioned. A remake would be fantastic as DW only weakness is the battle map graphics and the battle animations, even back then they were subpar but the gameplay, story, presentation and music made up for it. Sega has plans to remake older games, probably phantasy star and shining force series. It would be a shame if they don't remake this beast of a game
@@darthbargas I agree. I liked the first Brigandine especially....Not really a fan of the second games artstyle and I don't think it has nearly as interesting a cast. But Dark Wizard left them both in its dust.....Yeah, I picture something along the lines of Three Houses battle animations and map designs similar to FE engage (Man was THAT one a let down overall, but its gameplay and scenery were incredible) and a new AI that didnt just beeline your leader. If they did that, it would EASILY be GOTY surpassing any of the current popular SRPGs like Unicorn Overlord. One thing I loved is how it trusted the player to decide their own roster size, and what they wanted to handle. Patient players could have a fielded army of 100 and the AI was happy to match. Keep it down to a reasonable and quicker 10 units, and so would the AI....I have NEVER seen anyone else try and do anything similar. And that music! ANYONE who reads this can go listen to the "Conan the Barbarian" movie soundtrack from the 80s....This games music was THAT good! Repetative (Since there were what? 4 songs for the player plus a theme for each bosses region?) but incredible! There is a reason two fans of a little known game like this are still wishing for its revival today....My only fear would be them trying to be to "cartoony", fan-servicy, or cutesy and ruining the perfect atmosphere the original had.
@MidnightBlackandVictoria Your right, the second Brigandine was a major disappointment. The art style was funky and I hated that when you went to move your troops the hexagons have a wierd border highlighting the outline. Your spot on with a 3 houses combat animations and engage maps! No advance wars animations for battle, yes that would not match a serious beast of a strategy game. The music could use more tracks as I believe there was just 12 or so. I love that the sega CD was on disk so I would sometimes play it on my car stereo, music is so epic!
@@darthbargas The music sounds like the composer Basil. I know it isnt, but the style is similar, and Basil is the one who performs the "Conan the Barbarian" symphony concerts....So whoever the composer was, they are HIGHLY under-appreciated. Something I don't think major developers understand is this- The story doesnt havent to be too complex or convoluted (I'm looking at YOU Square Enix). Sometimes the tried and true stories of heroism are all you need....Its how its PRESENTED that matters. And how the total package comes together. Dark Wizard was so brilliant in its total package that its flaws are carried by its positives. I also think what it was that really harmed Brigandine 2 was as we said that weird artstyle, but ALSO that it wasnt translated to english voices (This isnt the 2000s where English VA's were so terrible we preferred Japanese voices on....There is some real English Voice talent now that could give alot of life to projects like that!) and the fact they didnt have a 3D battle animation. Sure, we shut it off after a while in the original, but ONLY because the load times were hideous. I loved them in the original because enemies were designed proportionately in size. These days, they could do those animations smoothly and quickly....And these 3 aspects are why Brigandine 2 didnt do as well as it could of, I think.....
@MidnightBlackandVictoria i agree with the music being underappreciated. The Conan soundtrack as well, no one ever mentions it. One of the greatest musical scores of all time. Good music really adds to a scene or game. It gives a feeling of emotion, atmosphere of the location etc...
Mercenaries Saga had around four titles release on PS4 / PS5, good fun for New Game Plus and the most recent one made it so you are less functionally immortal, or at least harder to get 100% Physical Resist and 75% Elemental Resist.
you mentioned Luminous Arc (I'm still bitter that LA 3 Eyes never got a western release) but gotta give a shoutout to Stella Glow. The spiritual sequel to the Luminous Arc series, and the studio's last game before declaring bankruptcy. It's a good time, though can be broken in half with some characters but the music is really good and incorporated in to the gameplay with song magic
Natural Doctrine is a great game once you figure out the very complicated mechanics. The tutorial is bad so a lot of people tried it, got confused, then gave up. Awesome game once you figure it out though
Here cuz of Sword of Convallaria, as much as it gives me the tactic game itch, it's not enough. There aren't any stages that challenges your units or to aim for. It's still your typical gacha grind to get waifus and husbandos
Maybe people hate on Fire Emblem because it’s too “mainstream” nowadays but really? Not even a mention of the older FE games? Pretty much one of the series the shaped the genre and propelled it to popularity.
Nah fam you did not just include 2 gacha games and said they are like FFT. That shit is so boring they have an autobattle system and a speed up. Hell they even have a skip battle altogether.
Fell Seal is criminally underrated. If you love FFT and TO, give it a chance, I swear it's worth it. Just get past the somewhat lacking animations, it is an indie game after all, and you'll have youself a fantastic sRPG.
I can't recommend the two Devil Survivor games on the 3ds. Some of the games on these lists tried to pull off different routes but the two DeSu games did it best. Every single route representative has valid motives for their vision of the world but there are also factors that might push you to a different road The combat is a simpler version that the SMT games, but that doesn't mean the game isn't deep. Some demons give you the ability to bypass every obstacle, others to attack from 2 or 3 range and others increase your movement. And the story? Man they can get dark, those little sprites have to put up with quite a lot of gore and the overall themes can leave an impact on people, the first one in particular. And who knows, players might even choose to become the bad guy themselves!
I'm gonna share you awesome FREE tactic Phone game that is so much fun Frankly, I think this game shouldn't be free at all, people should pay for this Knight of Ages
Unicorn Overlord is an Ogre Battle spiritual successor. FF Tactics is a Tactics Ogre spiritual successor. Tactics Ogre is my favorite SRPG and I greatly dislike Unicorn. These are nor similar.
Unicorn Overlord, honestly falls off hard at the last battle, and actually ruins the whole game in a way. I can understand why it didn't make the list, plus no additional post game content/deep dungeon secrets. Good game but it becomes 1 note and again, the final battle just ruins the experience imo.

Vandal Hearts is so good!
I've only played the second game

I finished vandal I and II . II is very good.
I liked suikoden tactics. Suikoden is my fave series. I did not expect it in this list
stella glow is so underrated
Not Fantasy themed but the Front Mission series is really great.
It's an old one, but since you touched on PS2, there's a bit of a hidden gem called Eternal Poison. Getting a copy today is starting to feel like looking for a copy of Path of Radiance.

Finally Reverse Collapse mentioned! 🎉❤
How did you mention Tactics Ogre as if it didn't inspire FFT, in a video about games similar to it? kinda wild lol
The original inspired FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre LUCT and Tactics Ogre Reborn have a lot of differences compared to vanilla.
Fire emblem series not being on here is criminal
I'll make another series for fire emblem, cause they have different style.
Mercenaries Saga had around four titles release on PS4 / PS5, good fun for New Game Plus and the most recent one made it so you are less functionally immortal, or at least harder to get 100% Physical Resist and 75% Elemental Resist.
Tactics Ogre is the best one, psp version for those who loves FFT, reborn (ps4, ps5, pc, switch) for all
so many so good choices, was gona drop a hidden game which was Mercenaries saga but you beat me to it which earn u a sub, keep up the great work.
Much appreciated!
Very Nice!

Stella Deus is awesome, one of my favorites. Nice ti see it mentioned
It's a great game!
does it had same dev as breath of fire 4?
Vanguard bandits. Mecha trpg ps1 era
I love that game! Played it alot!
I never see that game on any of these lists. It's one of my favorites.
I still have Vanguard Bandits on my PS3.
The Last Spell. Combines FFT and they are billions.
From all games reverse collapse and triangle strategy are really top in the gen. I cant recommend them enough even if there is a lot of text.
You can also add God Wars
Super robot wars series are my favourite
Fell seal is so good
what else except disgaea that have job/class system?
Natural Doctrine is a great game once you figure out the very complicated mechanics. The tutorial is bad so a lot of people tried it, got confused, then gave up. Awesome game once you figure it out though
Nice
Your tactics ogre footage is from the original SNES Console when you should have shown thr psp version 😅 over at the end of the video
Because FE is so unique that i have to make video specifically for the series.
Fell Seal is really good, I just don't like Kyrie much 😂.
The DLC also is a really good addition. I loved the game.

You should look i to shining force also
Where is Hoshigami?
This Tactics Ogre is the snes version.
shining force?
I'm gonna share you awesome FREE tactic Phone game that is so much fun
Frankly, I think this game shouldn't be free at all, people should pay for this
Knight of Ages
와... 저 게임들이 다 한국어판이 있으면 정말 너무 좋을것 같네요 ㅜㅜ 재미있겠다...
Agarest War
Jeanne D'Arc is a great game but it has awful music and sounds.
No Unicorn Overlord makes me wonder hmm
Not really like ff tactics. Great game though
Unicorn Overlord is an Ogre Battle spiritual successor. FF Tactics is a Tactics Ogre spiritual successor. Tactics Ogre is my favorite SRPG and I greatly dislike Unicorn. These are nor similar.

I can understand why it didn't make the list, plus no additional post game content/deep dungeon secrets. Good game but it becomes 1 note and again, the final battle just ruins the experience imo.
Unicorn Overlord feels more like Fire Emblem type of genre than FF Tactics.
👀
I Will never buy digital content again.. you don't own it
Yes you not own it but you can use iy long enough and maybe even whole life. Cd disk are not better so you have no choice if you want to play.
That’s why you buy GoG or DRM free games
@@JedBelaguas I tried to buy drm free games and used GoG few times but I understand that its not for me, not comfortable.
What are you talking about?
When's the last time you bought a game physically that didn't require a download?
